Mountain Pizza & Steakhouse is a very welcoming restaurant, located in Whitecourt and Edson, AB. Whitecourt is the only location I've been to. I ate both the Caesar and tossed salads, and also had both the lasagna and the baked spaghetti and bolognese sauce. I've been wanting to try some of their broiler dishes, suck as steaks. Times I have eaten at Mountain, it was very warm and welcoming, as it was in winter. Theriault ambiance was very warm as well. So Whitecourt seems to have limited restaurants and less that are independant. So I decided to try Mountain Pizza since I enjoy their sister restaurant in Edson. Restaurant is dated, but this is often the standard in small towns. Could use an update. Our server was friendly and quick. I haven't had a steak for awhile so I chose the New York Strip with a side of baked potato. It was good for the price point. 25 bucks for a steak cooked properly was good. And who doesn't like baked potato slathered with butter and sour cream and bacon bits. I would have liked this with green onions though. The carrot and sprig of parsley was unnessary and shows how dated their restaurant is. The French Onion soup came out pretty sloppy looking, however the flavours were there. Really nice carmalization on the onions. I would order this again. My husband had the lasagna. Loved the sauce. It is a very hearty dish and will fill you up. If I was in Whitecourt again, I would probably come back. If you like a good steak or some basic but tasty home cooked Italian food try it out. read more

We love to stop here when in the area, the food is always great. We've never been disappointed. It has a nice clean cabin feel, with crisp white table linens and formal table settings at every table, which add to its charm. A big cozy gas fireplace Too. After a long drive on the road in 35 C heat, we were looking for a place with great food. My husband and I shared a 14 oz Tomahawk steak that came with salad, baked potato and garlic toast. We added mushroom toppers which were amazing and cooked to perfection! The steak was also cooked perfectly, tender, and juicy. The baked potato was delicious served with real bacon bits, chives, and sour cream. Our tossed salad was fresh and crisp. We ended our meal with one of the best strawberry cheesecakes I have ever tasted! A delicious graham wafer base, a creamy and light cheesecake garnished off with strawberry compote. Our server was polite and our meal came quickly once we ordered. This restaurant is definitely on our list to revisit the next time we are on a road trip. read more

This review is tempered by the fact we are talking about Whitecourt, AB - the standards have to be reflected and adjusted appropriately, hence the two stars and not one. I've had the distinct displeasure of eating here at least 4 times on account of my frequent travel to Whitecourt - and I finally feel like I can write a review without being unfair. I'm not expecting much from the quaint, 90's farmhouse decor feel - it's a small town after all. The glassware, tables, table settings, etc are all a blast from the past - what people in the 90's thought was fancy but affordable. While the steak is decent, literally everything else on their menu is just downright awful. the pizza is awful, everything from the dough to the toppings to the cheese. Their pasta is even worse - watery tomato sauce, overcooked noodles, gross gross gross. I tried their crab salad (in retrospect, what was I thinking trying crab salad in a small town in Alberta), and it was smothered in creamy dressing with I kid you not, a log cabin stack of rectangular cut CHEESE STICKS on top of it. Of course the crab wasn't even canned crab, it was fake simulated crab. The french onion soup literally triggered at least two of my phobias as the cheese they used was chunky and looked like maggots floating around in my bowl - you'd better believe I couldn't finish that one. After dinner coffee was served cold - when this was pointed out to the waitress, she says: "Oh yea, I know I figured that much it's been out for a while. I'll get you a new one." Are you kidding? You KNEW and you served it anyways? If I've learned one thing after spending a lot of time eating in small town Alberta, it is that your best bet is to go for a chain because they have quality standards and you can at least depend on a mediocre meal from Original Joe's or fast food restaurants. read more

come through Whitecourt often and i have ate here many times but the last 2 times has been awful. This last time was a first for delivery the order was wrong, couldn't eat it, and it showed up in soggy cardboard. I lost my appetite and called the restaurant back. The manager refused to take my call or get on the phone so i delt with a woman who said she was a supervisor. Her solution was to pick my food up hsve me wait another hour and send another meal to me??? At this point i was put on hold for more than 20mins while she went back and forth with her manager and they decided to pick my meal up by taxi , give me a partial refund and call it a night. Unbelievable!!! This place has gone down hill and i will never eat here again. read more

Ok have eaten here in the past when stopping in White Court ! Food is pricey but very good ! May 4 2018 went for a few beers and supper Draft menu was limited 3 choices , no big deal , food was great , shared beef and mushroom pizza so tasty ! Wait staff though is another subject all together ! Seems if you are not a local you can just wait until they are done with everyone else , before they even acknowledge your sitting there !! I normally give staff the benefit of the doubt , but tonite was blatantly ignored us ! Still food was so good , we had to tip because who ever prepared food did no wrong here ! But to management if you don't want travellers stopping by , perhaps a notice on your door would be better for all concerned !! read more

Wow! Stopped on way through Whitecourt not really knowing what we were getting. The food was excellent! Chicken souvlaki with greek salad was outstanding, precise flavors that still leaves my mouth watering an hour later! Not sure what other reviewers problem with the waitstaff was. I've been to this restaurant since I was young, but I don't remember it being so dark and cavelike, it could use a brightening up. Our waitress was wonderful, sweet and efficient. The chef seems to have lost the love of food and the passion for it. The steak was overcooked and leathery. The chicken parm was alright until I got under the chicken, then the pasta was alright except for what was supposed to be sauce. It was overcooked peppers and chunks of tomato, no sauce. There is an uninterested cook back there, even I know how to make a pasta sauce and how to make it coat pasta. There's no love in this food. read more

First time to Whitecourt and wanted a quick lunch with my colleague. Had a Caesar salad and a 10" pizza. Both were good! Caesar had bacon bits in it. As a bacon lover, I liked the added flavor. However, some pieces were a little more chewy than the others but hey...BACON! Pizza ingredients seemed fresh. Although I prefer super thin crust, this crust was a little thicker than my likings but hey...PIZZA!! Service was fantastic!!! Can't wait to try it out for dinner next time I'm in town. read more

The food is pretty good but nothing to rush out for. The Greek salad is more Lettie's than anything. The last 2 stops really lacked service. They had a lot of servers but silly slow. Hope they can get that fixed. read more

I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I had pasta primavera and it was awful. My husband had steak and hated it.

The food is undoubtedly good and the atmosphere homey and what one would expect of a 'Mountain Steakhouse'. The reason I'm only giving it 2 stars is that one time I attended a work party there in a reserved, private, room. A member of our party made a joking remark in passing to another person. A waitress, who happened to know the mother of the person being spoken of, heard part of the remark, took it completely out of context, told the mother, and 'Boom', the next day the mother is threatening to report all of us to senior management! Mountain Pizza stood behind their staff member, even though she broke the promise of privacy that my employer had been guaranteed and paid good money for. Apparently eavesdropping on your customers and passing along gossip is ok by them. Too bad... their pizza was pretty decent. BP's is still better, at least! read more

Also makes pretty good pizza and not bad Italian. The star however is the steak and baked potato, no fries on the menu. I have been eating at Mountain for over 40 years and this one and the one in Edson have been consistently outstanding the whole time. The first location was Edson and the Whitecourt location opened up about 30 years ago. Highly recommend a stop at either if you are passing through. read more

The best steak all around . Amazing service. For those lazy family ughhh the family lasagna with a family Greek or Caesar salad and family garlic bread is the best treat! Been going there for 10 years and was never disappointed! I even tried the tiramisu cake last time we were there and it was to die for!
