Boston Pizza used to be one of my regular haunts, say... about 20 years ago. Things have changed a little since Baked Tortellini Alfredo (with a bottomless Diet Coke) on Pasta Tuesday. Since we took a day trip with the kids to Whitecourt, we dropped in to BP for dinner. The Trophy Wife and I shared the Shrimp Tacos and the Pepperoni Bacon Burger, which is essentially a pizza calzone with a burger in the middle. I quite enjoyed the shrimp taco (and I'm not a shrimp fan) but could have done with a little less lettuce. The batter on the shrimp was very nice, with a little bit of spice. They were actually called Spicy Shrimp Tacos. (they weren't really spicy at all; no more than an extra shake of pepper) Surprisingly, I liked the flavour a lot. Two thumbs up. The Pepperoni Bacon Burger I also thought was good and would order it again. Unfortunately, I wasn't informed that when given the option of sides, the cactus cut fries were an additional $3.50. If I would have known that before the bill came, I would have opted for the garden salad. Other than that little faux pas (which I do believe was unintentional, the waitress Tenaya, was extremely nice, attentive and placated our rowdy children very well. Nice job, Tenaya. The kids meals were the typical BP fare, pasta and burgers and for dessert, ice cream with candy on top. This restaurant gets four stars because my daughter's pasta sauce was quite boring (typical kid fare), the cactus cut fry faux pas and the fact that my wife didn't enjoy the meal as much as I did. However, I would go back... ... and not order the cactus cuts fries.

I had read the other review so was going in with low expectations, but perhaps a bit of hope that was an anomaly. I normally stick with tried and true staples when trying new places, burgers, chicken wings, or a club sandwich. But I was thinking something lighter and the menu was so broad I figured the chef had confidence to step outside the box. I daringly ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl. Truthfully, I would have been disappointed in this dish had I been sitting on a patio in a harbour town like Halifax or Vancouver. However, given that I was hours from the ocean, this was a decent dish. Oddly, aside from being slightly "mayo forward", it was the freshness of the avocado and mango, rather than the tuna, that held the dish back. While the menu is very broad, the staples may be a better bet after all. Service was friendly and attentive, prices also seemed reasonable. Overall, a reasonable choice, especially for hotel guests.

On our most recent stop, I had their Alberta Brenny (prime rib-based Benny) and Tania had the Croque Madame... both were spectacular! Jordan's service was perfect too - truly, just a great meal on our way through Edson!

This place is really big and open. Lots of places to sit inside and they have a great patio…read more Service was quick-ish. There were only 2 other tables of 2 when we were there and it took a while to get served but that's not a big deal we were busy checking the menu and location out. Reason for the 4/5 stars. The beer mugs were not cold so our beer was not cold. Maybe there was a cooling issue or maybe mugs aren't in a fridge or freezer but they need to be. My beer would have been that much better had it been cold. I tried the raspberry lychee. Very fun flavour definitely taste both the raspberry and lychee. And I tried the road beer (can't remember what it was fully called) this one was my fav! Would have been even better in a cold mug. We shared their butter chicken poutine. The chicken appears to be "fake" from a bag or something, but clearly the sauce was homemade authentic. That was really good, could do without the chicken. Definitely will come back to try other beers.

Tuesday, 7:00pm and not a soul on site other than the guy behind the till where I placed my order to go. Heard this place had a good butter chicken so thought I'd try it take out. I should have known better i guess... Comes with rice and "garlic" naan for $18.99 (if you order online apparently all the prices go up to use that service $22.30) The flavor was good, no choice of spice level but it had some heat. That was the only good thing to talk about... There was 3 little pieces of chicken and they appeared to be the grocery store precooked type, come on, do better. Very disappointed in the portion size of everything but maybe that's the shrink flation times we're in, felt like I just got played for a bunch of microwaved containers. The garlic naan was cut into 4 pieces and I guess had some sort of garlic butter wiped on most of it. Won't be trying that again, gets 1 star for the flavor of the sauce, try harder!!!

I ate both the Caesar and tossed salads, and also had both the lasagna and the baked spaghetti and bolognese sauce. I've been wanting to try some of their broiler dishes, suck as steaks. Times I have eaten at Mountain, it was very warm and welcoming, as it was in winter. Theriault ambiance was very warm as well. Service was great and friendly, the staff was professional and knowledgeable. Definitely a spot to visit for delicious foods.

Restaurant is dated, but this is often the standard in small towns. Could use an update. Our server was friendly and quick. I haven't had a steak for awhile so I chose the New York Strip with a side of baked potato. It was good for the price point. 25 bucks for a steak cooked properly was good. And who doesn't like baked potato slathered with butter and sour cream and bacon bits. I would have liked this with green onions though. The carrot and sprig of parsley was unnessary and shows how dated their restaurant is. The French Onion soup came out pretty sloppy looking, however the flavours were there. Really nice carmalization on the onions. I would order this again. My husband had the lasagna. Loved the sauce. It is a very hearty dish and will fill you up. If I was in Whitecourt again, I would probably come back. If you like a good steak or some basic but tasty home cooked Italian food try it out.

The prices are on par with any Japanese restaurant anywhere in Alberta. The sashimi was high quality and beautifully prepared. Quantity was reasonable for the prairies but pales to what you get in Vancouver. Lol. I paid about $18 for a half salmon half tuna sashimi. Consider it a more expensive treat and not to fill up on. Get the spicy scallop maki or a dragon roll to complete a great dinner. The tempura was good and crispy with nice sauce. Traditional green tea to round out my lunch. Decor is clean but empty. Needs more Japanese art to distinguish what the place is. The chef is in the back of the place. Maybe in the window would attract more interest from public. The service here was fast and very personable. Amanda did a great job at our table last week and today the owners wife (sorry don't know name yet but will soon) was so cheerful and attentive. I hope whitecourt people will embrace this place and finally give a reason to go back down town. In the 70's and 80'sThis location was once a popular restaurant called the Lamplighter. Some of you might remember. Can't wait to bring my family and friends here for dinner.
