Came here late September for lunch while in town for hockey. Hubs and I found them on Yelp and went with the vegetarian platter and kebob. I really liked the variety in the vegetarian platter - falafel, garlic sauce, rice roll, cauliflower... it was delish! The kebob didn't wow us. We tried eating outside as the only table inside was being used but the wasps kept dive bombing us and it was terrible. Note to self - eat in car or take somewhere wasp proof, lol. So Whitecourt doesn't have much other than chain restaurants. And they certainly don't have many ethnic restaurants. And out of those, there are very few that are open at 11 AM on a Sunday. We went to grab lunch to go. Service was really slow, but to no fault of the two people behind the small kitchen. They were swamped and flying off. My husband got the kafta kabob. I got the Vegetarian platter. After a long wait we brought these back to our hotel. Keep in mind we live in North East Edmonton where Shawarma places are all over the place. My husband thought his kafta kabob was okay but lacked a bit of flavour in the meat. It needed more spice. I actaully thought my flavours were really good in my platter. I really loved the falafels and the grape leaf rolls. They tasted well dipped in the garlic sauce. Nice rice too. Fresh salad.The only thing that I wasn't a fan of the cauliflower. As you can see, it was too long in the fryer. Platter for 15.00 was a good deal. My husband felt that his wrap for 11.00 was less value. I would probably grab take out from here again because I would rather support this than say the local Dairy Queen or Subway. If you are craving something different check it out. read more

Driving our RV through this part of the world and wanting to pick up food on the way... Google Maps showed a wide road in front of this business to park the RV so I called them to place an order. The lady who picked up my call was very nice and answered all of my questions. We showed up 15 minutes later and the order was ready. Everything was exactly what I ordered and it was delicious without tons of oil/vinegar that some of these restaurants add. Was driving through Whitecourt & wanted to check the place out because of the reviews. The place looked very appealing. I got a medium mixed (chicken and beef) shawarma, for the size & what I paid for I do not believe it was worth the money. Would not come back again. This is a review from a meal I had at this restaurant a few months back that I forgot to post about. What an excellent Shawarma! This place has a unique serving experience and taste. I have eaten Chicken Shawarma all over this country and I was very impressed with this places quality. One stand out thing is this restaurant serves the chicken shawarma on a dish that keeps everything separate. This was a first for me cause most Shawarma places slap it all together on a paper plate. I don't live in Whitecourt, but heard from friends that live here that it was new and pretty good. They were right. I tried the chicken shawarma and a side of hummus. Everything was really fresh, and very responsibly priced (cheaper then I thought it would be). I'll definitely come back, and a great option if you're driving through. Outdoor seating too for the summer. It's more of a take out place, but it's nice healthier option then the fast food places for sure. read more

I've been going there since the place first opened and I've recommended it to everyone I know who passes through Whitecourt: every single one of those people has raved about Sajj Shawarma! I visited once and started up a conversation with another customer, a really nice dude from the middle east. I asked him, "is it just me or is this place really great?" He came back with "This? I have not had food like this since Lebanon?" He'd driven 80 km out of his way to go there. My favourite to eat in is the Beef Shawarma in their store-made Sajj along with a fattoush salad. I was passing through Whitecourt and decided to stop here for supper. The staff was very friendly and took great pride in their food, taking the time while I was deciding what to order to tell me all about their process and their passion for quality. The food was fantastic. So many different flavours bursting in your mouth with every bite. I had Shawarma when I was in Europe and I did not expect it to be as good. But the food was definitely up to par. It tasted homemade and extremely fresh. I will absolutely return on my next trip through Whitecourt. As mentioned in the other review, this is more of a take out place than a sit down place. There is only a few two seat tables inside.
