Smitty's is a favourite spot of mine and family. Opened in…read more1960, Smitty's is a family oriented restaurant, offering casual comfort foods. For myself and family, we are big fans of breakfast foods at lunchtime - brunch is definitely great at Smitty's. The menus at Smitty's is very complete and has something for every taste - from all day breakfast to lunch / dinner menu (which includes appetizers, handheld, salads and mains), desserts. And let's not forget the menu for the kids!! All day breakfast is what brings the family and I to Smitty's - the menu is very complete and delicious. You can find eggs, meats, cubed and shredded hashbrowns, toast, pancakes and crepes, skillets, omelettes and eggs Benedict. I have eaten a variety of breakfast items at the restaurant: the classic traditional eggs and bacon, eggs Benedict, omelettes as well as skillets. It's hard to say which one is the best or my favourite - I would say that the food prepared and served at any Smitty's I have eaten at is fresh, of exceptional quality and quantity (no need for snacking until the next meal). I also had the opportunity to try a few of their burgers and chicken quesadilla, fish & chips and southern fried chicken, all very delicious!! Service is very friendly, professional and rapid. The ambiance is very relaxing as well, which enables you to take it easy if by oneself, or having a casual conversation with fiends or family. Finally, Smitty's has 80 locations across Canada, so you can enjoy their foods (almost) anywhere!!

The prices are on par with any Japanese restaurant anywhere in Alberta. The sashimi was high quality and beautifully prepared. Quantity was reasonable for the prairies but pales to what you get in Vancouver. Lol. I paid about $18 for a half salmon half tuna sashimi. Consider it a more expensive treat and not to fill up on. Get the spicy scallop maki or a dragon roll to complete a great dinner. The tempura was good and crispy with nice sauce. Traditional green tea to round out my lunch. Decor is clean but empty. Needs more Japanese art to distinguish what the place is. The chef is in the back of the place. Maybe in the window would attract more interest from public. The service here was fast and very personable. Amanda did a great job at our table last week and today the owners wife (sorry don't know name yet but will soon) was so cheerful and attentive. I hope whitecourt people will embrace this place and finally give a reason to go back down town. In the 70's and 80'sThis location was once a popular restaurant called the Lamplighter. We went to grab lunch to go. Service was really slow, but to no fault of the two people behind the small kitchen. They were swamped and flying off. My husband got the kafta kabob. I got the Vegetarian platter. After a long wait we brought these back to our hotel. Keep in mind we live in North East Edmonton where Shawarma places are all over the place. My husband thought his kafta kabob was okay but lacked a bit of flavour in the meat. It needed more spice. I actaully thought my flavours were really good in my platter. I really loved the falafels and the grape leaf rolls. They tasted well dipped in the garlic sauce. Nice rice too. Fresh salad. The only thing that I wasn't a fan of the cauliflower. As you can see, it was too long in the fryer. Platter for 15.00 was a good deal. My husband felt that his wrap for 11.00 was less value. I would probably grab take out from here again because I would rather support this than say the local Dairy Queen or Subway. If you are craving something different check it out.
