    Huskies!

My wife and I were in from Los Angeles visiting family and we decided to try this. Reserving ahead was painless and the crew is a good bunch of people. The experience itself was excellent. Cameron was are "musher" and he was great! He shared stories and taught us about the dogs and how they work together, as well as sharing about the land we were on. He was really friendly and knowledgeable. I also loved that it was a family owned and operated business. We will definitely be going back!

Such a fun experience, with great views. All of the employees were very friendly and welcoming. Our musher was great, very informative too. They love the dogs and take good care of them, the dogs love the job and were so ready to start the ride!!! I've been looking at different dog sled companies. I chose this one because it's family operated and didn't make it seem they are just running the dogs to add as many people on a tour as often as they can. The location is also great it's so close to Vail.

We had a fantastic day with Matt and his dog sled team! Would highly recommend this company! Loved seeing these dogs in action and loving what they are doing.

Best Time EVER!!! Dogsledding being on our bucket list for years, none of the outfitters around Leadville sounded appealing with just a valley tour on flat land. A friend was in Vail in December and took a ride with Mountain Musher. After learning of his experience, recommendation, I checked them out. Love the fact that their tour is on a private ranch out of Edwards, rolling hills, through aspen groves with amazing views. I sent an email listing four days in February that would work, though we were extremely flexible.. Denise's response was timely and complete. We arrived at the meet point off I-70 to have Bill pick us up with the rest of the folks he picked up in Vail and Beavercreek. Bill was our Musher and WOW! what a time he gave us. He knows the history of the area, all about mushing and had us laughing and cheering on the dog team all the way. Halfway through the ride we stop for hot chocolate and homemade pumpkin bread. It provides an opportunity for the dogs to rest and for us to get photos with the dogs and pet them. All the mushers know their dogs and advise on the friendliness and temperament. Then we head back to the starting point. BUT there is more. Little did we know that each of us would have an opportunity to mush! My husband was first. Bill trained us on the commands, then sat on the sled with me. Once he determined Mark could handle it, he got out and went ahead to get photos. Then it was my turn. Bill trained me on the procedures when going around curves, braking and the commands. It became quite apparent that I didn't have sufficient weight for braking so he joined me on the back. What fun! We were sad that the ride came to an end, but look forward to another opportunity. At the break and after the ride we had an opportunity to visit with the owner. Great guy. Been doing this for 30 years. His dogs are very well cared for and trained. We WILL return to Mountain Mushers. What a grand experience!!

Dogs waiting before harnesses. Super friendly and stronger than they look!

I've been coming to Steamboat for 23 years now, and this was the coolest thing I've ever done here. I can't believe it took us so long to try dog sledding, but now this will definitely be a yearly tradition. They picked us up in a van directly from our condo at the base of the mountain, so that was really convenient. Then we drove about 45 minutes from Ski Time Square out to the location with the dog sleds. The drive went by pretty quickly, since there was so much scenery to take in. But if you get carsick easily you may want to prepare yourself for the windy roads as you get closer to the location. The facility was modest, but it had everything we needed. There was a little shed with hot chocolate (and some adult beverages to help us stay warm), cookies, extra boots and gloves in case ours weren't warm enough, and hand warmers for us to use while dog sledding. I'm so glad they had these, because we all realized that what we thought were warm boots were not actually as warm as the ones they had. So several of us borrowed boots and all of us took some hand warmers. The staff made us feel welcome to take anything we needed. Just great hospitality. There's also a porta potty, which actually ended up being as clean as they get. And in the cold, the smell wasn't bad at all. I appreciate them having some kind of restroom facility, because we would've essentially been stranded out in the woods with no bathroom. The timing of everything felt really relaxed, which was super nice. We had plenty of time to get ready in the shed, play with and learn about the dogs, take pictures, and get ready to drive home after we finished sledding. And even though the sledding part wasn't incredibly long, it felt like the right amount of time for amateurs like us. At the end we were just starting to get a little tired from driving the sled without it being too exhausting. It wasn't rushed at all, and the timing was spot on. The staff was outstanding. They made us feel comfortable and were super friendly and helpful the whole time. They taught us about dog sledding races and answered any questions we had. They showed us how to put the harnesses on the dogs and we got to harness a few dogs. They showed us how to drive the sled, then we just started going! We rode/drove in partners while the staff rode snowmobiles alongside us to guide us and do damage control whenever necessary. Our group had one guide per sled. I accidentally let my sled get away from me once, and one of the guides was able to jump off her snowmobile to catch my sled before the dogs ran too far (my bad, but also super impressed by the staff for that save). We stopped a few times along the way and they were super friendly and asked if we wanted any pictures. Advice for this is to dress more warmly than you think. Wear your warmest shoes with your warmest socks. Make sure you have sunglasses or goggles, and a hat that won't fall off. You also may want to have something to cover your face, because the wind hits your face in the sled. I dressed like I was going skiing, which ended up working out. I did end up using their boots and hand warmers though. Make sure to tip the staff well, because they really make the whole experience lighthearted, fun, and they really know their stuff. If you have the opportunity to try dog sledding, definitely go with this company!

In my honest opinion, Mountain Musher provide exceptional services! The booking is easily done through phone call! The activity started when Bill, the driver/musher from the Mountain come to pick us up at the Four Season in Vail. He was very friendly and nice. My girlfriend and I chatted with him quite a bit during the half hour ride to the trail. Once we got there, we were quickly introduced to the staffs and the dogs. They were all extremely friendly. The dogs are well trained. The trail run was nothing short of exceptional. If we have a chance to visit Vail again, we will definitely go back to these guys for more!! Highly recommended!

From start to finish Mountain Mushers didn't disappoint. In our group we had 2 sleds, me and my daughter on one and my husband and daughter on the other one. The van driver was courteous and on time. The dogs were friendly and loved their pictures taken and to be petted. The scenery was magnificent, we got a fresh coat of snow the night before. The terrain could be fast a rough at parts which didnt bother us. We can't say enough about the crew, Friendly, knowledgeable and truly love their jobs and the dogs. We would recommend this adventure to anyone.

This company was AMAZING. I would love to experience this again, hands down... worth every penny. The booking is simple and user friendly, you get a great ride to the ranch, the dog sled "mushers" are so friendly and knowledgeable and the dogs are amazing. You also have a really fun and beautiful ride. The break the middle with treats and dog bonding time is wonderful. Huge shout out to Cameron and the A Team!! Unforgettable experience. Thank you everyone!

Having a fantastic time with Mountain Mushers!!

I loved this so much. Wally and the rest of the crew were amazing. And I just loved the dogs. They were very sweet yet hardworking and focused.

After researching tour companies through Yelp and other review websites I settled on Rocky Mountain Rush because of their great reviews on Trip Advisor. Though we had to contend with a rainy day, RMR did a great job of showing us some of the highlights of the park. The park itself is absolutely breathtaking (separate review) and a need-to-see experience. The RMR vehicle (pretty much a really big Hummer) is spacious and very comfortable. Since it has the capacity to become an open air vehicle, it can get a little chilly inside. Comfy fleece blankets are provided. Our guide was fantastic - he seemed to know a lot about the park's history and was truly funny. Just a couple of things... not easy to make a reservation online. I sent three requests and eventually just had to call. It is virtually impossible for me to use a phone on my work days so I would have found online more convenient. A longer tour, even by just an hour or so would be great. The park is huge so don't get me wrong... I get why you can't see everything in a few hours. Besides the basic hummer tour, they also do downhill biking adventures and wine and cheese sunset tours. Their prices are on the moderate side ($50 pp). Overall, a good service!

Tours are relatively reasonably priced (though not cheap) for the entertainment and educational bits and bobs about the places you're taken to, but for the winter tours where your exposure to several areas of the park is limited, I do think they could knock off a few bucks. We had a bit of a mishap during my tour, where my phone was dropped and my battery tumbled off a bridge and down the side of the mountain. Our guide saved the day by literally sliding down the mountain to retrieve my battered - but still functional! - phone innards. Nevermind the details about how that happened (though I wonder if it'll make it into our guide's stories from here on out), but not having that battery would have really put a kink in the remainder of FH and I's trip to Colorado, so I was thankful, if a bit nervous, that he rescued it. We would love to come back in the summertime and take one of the off-road tours, and will definitely look up this company again if we find ourselves in Estes in warmer months.

I called on a Saturday afternoon for a Tuesday morning ride, and they were able to accommodate us. Since it was the slow season and a weekday, availability was better. However, weekends tend to book up quickly, even during the off-season, so I recommend calling several days in advance. You won't receive an email confirmation, so be sure to make note of your reservation time. If you forget, you can always call and confirm it they are very friendly and happy to help. We chose the one hour ride, which was perfect for a first time rider like me. While it would have been nice to ride through the aspen grove, we're saving that for our next visit. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the views were amazing. My 11 year old daughter, who has a little riding experience, also had a fantastic time. Our guide was supportive, informative, and engaging. She shared interesting information about the local wildflowers, mountain peaks, and the surrounding area, which made the ride even more enjoyable. Helmets are available on site and are optional. One tip: be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and bring a cap or hat. There is limited shade on the trail, and the sun can be quite strong, especially at higher elevations. Overall, it was a very fun experience, and we're already looking forward to returning to try the one and half hour tour next time.
