Lessons at Lionshead It's always the luck of the draw as to what type of instructor you'll get and this time, we were lucky enough to meet nice group mates and take lessons at a time when the weather was amazing. As for the location, Lionshead is great for newer skiers and the price of lessons are on par with other Vail resorts. You can purchase one day of lessons or three days of lessons for the price of two. Also, the early season promos were buy one get one free for non EPIC pass holders ($314 -375 for 2 full days of lessons, lift tix and equipment rental). Having taken lessons at other Vail resorts (Whistler Blackcomb and Wilmot), I was rather disappointed at this experience. School starts at 9:45a. Our group did not get started until 10:20a and we were the only Level 1-2 group (ski or snowboarding) to spend the ENTIRE day at the bunny hill and magic carpet. We were there so long that the guy operating the magic carpet asked me if I would try the "lift" that was less than 75 feet away, to which I responded that our instructor said we would NOT go on day 1, we could move on the next day. We pretty much had this area to ourselves. Had we not noticed that every other group of first timers/new skiers were further along and "learning" elsewhere, we would have believed that Lionshead instructors teach at an ULTRA slow pace. *********After our 10:20 start, our teacher wanted to break for lunch at 11:15. We asked to keep going until 12:15-12:30p. Two of our group mates skipped lunch to practice more. They also opted to keep practicing when our lesson ended. ********** While I'm still scratching my head as to the reason we learned so little especially in comparison to others, I was reminded that our instructor mentioned at the outset that he would encourage each of us to take at least a second day of lessons. When the five of us piped up to say we all had purchased multiple days, he could have limited the lesson knowing that we would be returning for lessons with him on day 2 and/or 3. What he didn't know was that we wanted go with someone else in hopes of a better lesson. Hahaha. ...............The only problem with going with someone new was that we were taught FAR less than other level 1-2 groups.

    Truthteller X.

Good service and great coaches!! We signed up classes for adult beginners, intermediate level and kids group lessons for 4 days, and we had so much fun learning and socializing. Highly recommended!!

    On the way up!

We were just in Vail Jan 1-4. My 15 year old son took full day snowboarding lessons for three days with Pablo in a small group. He loved it so much we will be going back! He couldn't wait to get up and meet the group each morning even though it was cold in the single digits. They ate some amazing looking food for lunch each day too. (Send a credit card) I recommend buying the two day beginner, group lesson and then you get the third day free. His group had just five people. There is a group for 15-17 year olds. They are great about putting you with others at the same skill level and age. My son didn't want to be with a bunch of 7 year olds. Pablo was amazing! Ask for him! Then have artist Eileen Corse create a painting for you from your pics! (I posted a pic of her work)

I highly recommend getting a ski lesson if you don't know how to ski.

Very disappointed! I ordered the Performance ski package for my wife and me online to save 25%…read more When I got there they talked me into the Demo package. When we got to the lift we noticed the top laminate was peeling from one of the skis so we walked back to the store to replace it and they said it wouldn't affect the performance and gave us a hard time before they replaced the ski. We took a gondola up for our first run and my wife could not get the ski on, The binding was not adjusted correctly. We forced the ski on (luckily), got down to the bottom, went back to the store to re-adjust the binding. Both skis had to be adjusted (boot size 175, ski was set to 172). They rented me K2 Reckoner skis very (short). They were not skis for the current conditions, deep powder. I told them I thought they were too short and they said they would be fine. Bad experience! We ended up paying $202.45 each instead of $119.97 each (+taxes) for crappy old skis.

A seeming good experience online, devolved into some bullsh*t customer service that left a very…read moresalty taste. I was at first, very pleased with how they handled my reservation online. After making several changes, they appeared accommodating. However on December 23rd I gave them a call around 5 pm to let them know that I would be arriving to pick up my rental package between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. The person from ski base on the phone told me that was fine as long as I got there before they closed at 7:00. Keep in mind it was snowing and I was staying in a condo in East Vail. Ski base is in Lionshead Village and I had never been there before. Upon parking at the Lionshead parking garage and walking extremely fast through the village looking for the shop, my two sons and I entered the doors at 6:58 pm out of breath from the speed walk, and many patrons were still inside. The man at the register asked how he could help me and I let him know that I had called about picking up my equipment. He quickly dismissed me and said they would not give me my rental two minutes before they closed. I let him know that I spoke with his people earlier who said it was okay as long as I showed up before 7:00pm, which I did. Instead of servicing me based on the information one of his employees shared, his response was "well I don't know who told you that". WTF? Seriously??? Turn around and ask your staff who gave me the wrong info and deal with them later. I reminded him that It was his employee who gave me this information. He said he would not start a new rental without a reservation (which I also had), so I corrected him and told him that I certainly did have a reservation and that my son's boot size, skill level, height and weight was already in his system, but he still refused, got tongue tied, and stumbled through some crap about "the system" not letting him rent any equipment after 6:30. He said I needed to come back first thing in the morning at 8:00 a.m. and he would prioritize my rental. Hell to the naw!!!! That's not how you put the customer first. If your staff made a mistake then you should eat it, take responsibility and help a new customer out. I had to then turn right around and return to my car empty handed. What did I do? I canceled my reservation and went with Vail Sports at the bottom of gondola 1. Of course it was more expensive, but the vibe in that shop was 1000x more relaxed and accommodating. They repaired my son's snowboard binding without charging me, allowed me to take poles without charging, and they gave me a free day of storage because they couldn't find my basket in a timely manner. THAT'S TOP CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Ski base prices are more reasonable, so they bank on volume rentals and don't care if they lose me as a customer. They know some other thirsty patron will return the next day, tail between legs to line up and bend over for mediocre service, but not me. You guys suck!
