I came here specifically to try the fried Livers and Gizzards, items that are rather hard to locate in the current food environment, especially the Gizzards. When I was growing up, if you bought a chicken it was very often the whole bird, with all the organ parts included, as was the neck. My mother fried everything, and we ate everything. Now few cut up their chicken, rather buying specific parts according to taste and budget. You can find chicken livers in some major grocery stores, but rarely, if ever, gizzards. You can find them at some ethnic stores, Mexican especially. Why these items are basically ignored is more than a little puzzling. The gizzard in particular is a nutritional powerhouse - lean, loaded with vitamins & minerals, as well as iron, zinc and B vitamins. Livers are much the same, especially loaded with iron - and soaking livers in mild for a short time helps tone down the taste! Both items were nicely cooked and full of flavor. I unfortunately do not have many positive points to share about my experience at this establishment. Yesterday was not my first experience with Mountain Fried Chicken, but it was the worst experience I've had while visiting this restaurant. I have had very mediocre experiences in the past, but this experience was downright dreadful. I ordered in the drive-thru and received my food in a timely manner. The employee whom I dealt with at the window was pleasant, but nothing to write home about. I received the correct order and was on my way home. Once I got home and settled, I opened up my food to begin eating. To my disappointment, the rice had NO seasoning on it. The gravy that I got with my rice was simply brown liquid, also with no flavor and or seasonings. The chicken was not seasoned, and the crispy skin that should have been was flaccid and soggy, as if it had been sitting under a warmer light for many hours. On the drive-thru menu, it states "okra fried to order," which was also not true, as my okra was the coldest thing on my plate when I opened it up to begin eating. Service is terrible. I was told once there was a 5 minute wait on the chicken. Then I watch them empty a tray of chicken for orders placed after I did. Most included wedges. When I questioned I was told they were out of wedges and once again 5 minute wait. While the entire time they were filling orders with wedges on most all plates. I finally after 30 minutes of waiting got my money back and took my business to where my money was appreciated. Apparently management really doesn't care about their business or they would insure the orders would be filled properly and hire employees that are competent enough to do the job. I got them for a lunch at Mountain View Baptist Church in King where we also fed the congregation from Orchard View Church in Cana, Virginia. food was delicious as always! i have used them for other church functions, but this was by far the largest order! excellent food, service and value! I'm not exactly sure what has changed at this location, but the dining area was NASTY and the chicken was DRY! The macaroni casserole was fresh and very tasty... but I do believe I'll drive through for that IF I ever go back. All the down time we have had during this pandemic ... the place should be spotless! Note: The University Parkway location has moved to 5954 University Parkway ( Probably 1/2 mile further North) I stopped in to check out the new digs and I like them. Maybe slightly less seating than the 5475 location. The woman at the counter was patient and friendly and I perused the menu. I settled on the "Wing Special" of 10 wings, 8 wedges, and a roll. I added a Cheerwine on to that as well (obviously). The total was about $10.00. I had my food in about 45 seconds and settled in. The wings were large. Well seasoned and juicy. You can eat them plain or add any of the sauces available (BBQ, Honey Mustard, Texas Pete). I liked them all but stuck mostly with the Honey Mustard. The wedges were mostly good with a couple of the bigger ones being slightly undercooked. The side items and desserts looked really tempting on the hot bar. I look forward to going back! read more

Got some take out here in my way home from work. It was okay, not great, but not awful either. The place has an odd smell when you walk in, it didn't smell like food though which gave me hesitancy. They did have a 97.5 health rating which put my mind to ease. The guy who took my order was really nice and respectful and answered any questions I had about the menu since it was my first time there. I chose to go with the chicken dinner option that came with 4 pieces of fried chicken, two sides, and two pieces of bread. The fried chicken was "okay" as it was fried nicely but didn't have a whole lot of flavoring. It wasn't too greasy either which was nice I just wish it have more of a tasting to it like KFC's original recipe does. For my sides I chose to get Mom's Mac and cheese along with potato wedges. The potato wedges were about what you expected the to be: warm, cooked, and not raw. I put hot sauce on the wedges and chicken to add more kick and flavor to them. The Mac and cheese was delicious though! They incorporate this like chili tomato sauce mix within the Mac and cheese which gave it a little kick and some flavor. I enjoyed it very much! The rolls were your basic Merita bread factory rolls that are served at an after church service dinner and were good. I also got some apple cobbler for my sweet tooth which was warm and gooey! The apples were flavored perfectly and soft and the cake itself was moist to perfection! I would definitely come back just for the cobbler. My only major complaint would be the food was laid out like a buffet when I first got there and it looked like it had been sat out for awhile; not sure if there is a law where it has to be exchanged out for a fresh portion of food. I will look into that that though. Overall, the food was okay; it wouldn't be my first choice to go for some fried chicken, and I wouldn't automatically run to this place to eat at.
