Ok - I feel like I should start out by saying - I don't float - like it's this whole joke in my family that I can't float ...blah blah ...so naturally - I was super skeptical - but it's sounded very interesting and randomly enough in the last month a number of completely unrelated individuals have brought up and suggested we try a float spa ...and of course driving through New Paltz to Mohonk Mountain House - we see the sign for this place ....then - no joke - third night there a staff member at Mohonk randomly mentions the place to us ....so when we checked out of Mohonk earlier today and my hubs found some awesome spots to stop by on our way out of town - we knew we had to try this place out! I truly can't say enough about the entire experience!!!! If you are on the fence - try it, if you think it's a little out there - try it, if you don't think you can float - try it, MOST importantly if you want to experience an almost euphoric level of relaxation- TRY IT!!! It's an absolutely amazing experience! & THIS PLACE knows what they're doing! We met the husband, Joey of the ownership duo - in addition to his knowledge and guidance for first time 'floaters' being spot on - he was also just genuinely kind and pleasant to talk to! The entire place is pristinely clean and calming ...and each person is escorted to their own private room for the entire session to include changing, prep, floating, and your own personal shower for after your float! I'm telling you - you have to try it! I completely understand now how people go once and are hooked! I booked a service through this establishment for the first time through an offer on social media. I received multiple confirmations and was very excited. I arrived on the scheduled date to find the floats down and there was a very nice, but slow receptionist apologizing that the offer should have come offline due to this. She kindly rescheduled me for the following week staying they would have the floats back up. I allowed addition days past the exoected date of repair just for cushion. Again I receive multiple confirmations. The day before the scheduled service, I receive a call from the same person canceling yet again due to issues with maintenence of the floats. Lots of explanations made, im alone, i need a specialits for repair, etc. Again an offer to reschedule. I kindly declined. Best place to relax in Ulster County. If you know to completely zen out, I recommend floating. If you've never tried it, make sure you're the kind of person who CAN relax & loves some alone time. If you want to walknout of there on cloud9 do the float sandwich, its an hour float followed by an hour massage. What an incredible experience! This was my first float and will most certainly not be my last! The weightlessness and relaxation that was felt was beyond what I could have ever imagined! Buyer beware...staff are not fully vaccinated and are also NOT wearing masks, despite messages that they are and a lot of other deceptive safety protocols. My massage therapist, Tanya, entered my room for a prenatal massage and shook my hand. She had no mask on and told me I could feel free to remove mine. I told her I wasn't comfortable with that because I am pregnant, which of course she already knew from my intake forms. In fact, I asked if she could put a mask on for an intimate treatment. She said she was "against the whole mask thing" and reluctantly started to put one on her chin. I asked if she was vaccinated. She said no, and aggressively asked if I was. I said yes but that that isn't the point. She also asked if I asked if my massage therapist would be vaccinated when I made the appointment, as though it's my fault. (In retrospect, my husband admits he didn't and should have.) This was my nightmare scenario unfolding on my honeymoon. Thanks a TON, Mountain Float Spa, for creating a horribly uncomfortable and unsafe situation for me, my husband, and our unborn child. I'll never ever return. read more

Excellent service! Tanya was great; she was very thorough and you could tell she is very experienced. I received a Swedish Massage with some moments of deep tissue. She made me feel very comfortable and welcomed and communicated clearly. She also showed a great deal of attention to my specific circumstances and what my body needed most. This spa is super nice! Very quintessential new paltz. The float tanks are really cool and a neat place to relax.. they give you everything you need to prepare for your float, like ear plugs, make up remover, shampoo and soap. After my float i got an hour massage by tanya who was super awesome and did really good work. My one and only complaint - the towels are a little rough and stinky! They definitely need a refresh or new towels. Although you are more than welcome to bring your own, it would be nice to have a nice towel there. Thanks mfs! read more

It's a good place the floating experience is normal nothing really to recommend I think they can make the experience better by adding some nice incenses, lights and music but it was literally a bath in the dark. Massage was ok the lady it wasn't that friendly and to me that's really important at the moment to get a massage I like to feel that you connect with the massager with some good energy around you and I did not feel that. read more

(TL:DR -- BOOK NOW, this place is beyond awesome!!) I wish I could give more than five stars (1000!)! What a pleasant experience! Friendly, knowledgable staff; squeaky-clean, calming facility; lovely amenities -- and the most amazing relaxation experience I've ever had! Oh my goodness! Am I ever glad I tried floating! I booked with Joey over the phone. They sent an instruction e-mail with a follow-up reminder. Everything was perfectly ready for me when I arrived, right down to clean houseshoes to change into (LOVED this touch -- made me feel right at home from the start!) Lights were soft, lovely unobtrusive backgroundmusic playing, atomizer with eucalyptus essential oil, very light (perfect for the cold, slightly drippy evening). The tour of the facilities was thorough and oriented me well to the space. Everything had been done to increase the user's comfort and feeling of safety within the space. Each floater has a private, very quiet prep room (with a locking door), and a clear shower pod and the float chamber is inside the room, separated by a shower-type push door (all spotlessly clean!). First, I consulted the instructions on the wall to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything. Then, undress and hang up clothes (the prep room is perfectly warm), mold the provided silicon earplugs to my ears (yours to keep or dispose of after use), if one has small abrasions or cut that might sting from the salt, there is an individual packet of ointment you could apply to protect it -- also makeup remover, in case you are wearing any. Position provided towels and any additional shower aids you will want for after the float. Turn off the overhead light -- plenty of light comes from the chamber -- and cross the room to slip into the shower for a scrubdown before the float. The provided shampoo and Dr. Bronner's lavender soap smelled heavenly and added another layer of relaxation. (If you like to condition your hair after the float, you will want to bring your own, but don't use before float). Finally, the big adventure begins! The layout of the prep room is perfect -- just one quick step to enter the float chamber from the shower. The float chamber is blissfully warm, and the air is moist without being oppressively humid. The water and air are both exactly the temperature of your skin, so there is no feeling of getting cold if you lift a body part out of the water (like you would feel in a hot tub or swimming pool). There is a facetowel to dry off any drips and a little squirt bottle of fresh water in case you need to spray salt out of your eyes (I did not need this -- but it was very comforting to know it was there, in case!), as well as a little float pillow for your head in case you need to have your head further out of the water to be comfortable (I did not use -- I was very comfortable without it). Two very large, easy to use buttons control the light and music (on/off). The first few minutes were spent adjusting to my surroundings and finding just the right position -- i imagine this will go more quickly on future visits -- but once I found the sweet spot, the relaxation was deep and intense! I could feel muscles and joints unkinking as I relaxed and let go. The more you trust the bouyancy of the saltwater, the deeper your relaxation becomes. The darkness is so complete, it does not matter whether your eyes are open or not, which is wonderfully relaxing for the eyes. In the day leading up to my appointment, I was worried I might feel closed in or worried, but the chamber is truly large, with the ceiling high enough to avoid feeling closed in at all. I am 5'8", and the floating space seemed quite large -- once I got the hang of floating, I never touched the sides again after the first 5 or so minutes of shifting around. Eventually, I lost track of time, and not feeling the walls made the space seem to expand dramatically -- like I could have been floating in a gigantic lake. I had times of both drowsiness and hyper-alertness, where I seemed aware of every single muscle and breath, but there was overall such a feeling of peacefulness that all of it was entirely enjoyable. When your time is up, the chamber light slowly comes on -- a very peaceful way to let you know it's time to go. I actually laughed when the light came on, because the space had expanded so much in my mind! Plenty of grab bars aid the slow standing (I still felt a little floaty), and stepping out of the chamber right into the adjacent shower to rinse off the salt. If you like to condition your hair, you will want to have that pre-positioned, as I said earlier, because you may be too relaxed (and wet) to bother digging through your bag. After you pull out your earplugs, they even have provided cotton ball and vinegar water to clean your ears. Hot tea or water, a chocolate nibble, and a float journal to write in await you in the post-float lounge. Slept like a log since, have excellent focus, feel so spry -- I can't wait to go back! read more

This was my second visit to the Mountain Float Spa in New Paltz. Just as expected, it was as relaxing, calming, pleasurable, and Zen-like, as my first visit. Joe is an awesome host and clearly knows how to welcome and introduce a guest to the floating experience. This was definitely the most relaxing and enjoyable spa experience that I have ever had! I came in today with my SO, who very nicely bought us each a "float sandwich" for the holidays. When we got in, we were asked to take off our shoes and take a seat. After filling out paperwork, I headed into the massage room, and my SO headed into the tank. The masseuse was so terribly nice; she went harder and softer when she felt me tensing up or relaxing, and provided an amazing hour Swedish massage. After the treatment, I donned a very soft robe and headed into the chamber room, with dimmers and adjustable lighting to provide whatever kind of light you are comfortable with. Personally I was fine in the dark, but the sweet woman at the front desk assured be that some lighting would be available if desired. You take a shower, complete with shampoo and body wash (don't forget your hairbrush if you have long hair, or conditioner post-float), pop in some ear plugs (if you enjoy salt waterless ears!) and head into the tank. The chamber is the size of a double wide bathtub, with the ability to change lighting and music inside. I left the atmospheric music play, which definitely helped me relax. Despite slightly bumping into the sides, I felt totally amazing and at ease being in the tank, and didn't feel the slightest big claustrophobic. When I got out of the tank, I felt like I got an entire night's restful sleep. I showered again, and exited into the cool-down room where my SO and I shared some tea, chocolate, and reset time. As a surprise 60th birthday gift, my son treated me to a visit at Mountain Float Spa. What an amazing experience. I had an hour massage first with Jackie who was wonderful. I was a little unsure about being in a flotation tank but Joe did a great job explaining everything from the moment I entered the suite, so I was totally prepared. It's like nothing I've ever experienced before. You can feel the tension and stress in your body completely go away. I have chronic pain and was curious how I would feel after floating for an hour. Well, I can tell you I was pain free. And as I write this I am still pain free. Was it the flotation? Was it the massage? A combination of both maybe? Whatever it was I am so grateful. Mixed Review: On the up side, The premises were lovely, clean and welcoming and the float bath was clean and spacious- not at all claustrophobic as I had feared seeing some other type in one of the ad clips. Jen was an amazing massage therapist who did an awesome job. On the down side, we were not as 'wowed' as we had hoped we'd be with the float. It felt chilly to me [the water is so buoyant you can't even keep your body under the warm water if you tried.] and I was told that since then they added heaters to ensure comfort when weather is cold. I had revived a gift card from my sister in law to go for an hr float. She recently booked our appointments and we were ready to go. I recently dyed my hair with color accents, I had received the email that explained about hair dye and I wasn't very worried . The night before I started googling what a float was as I had never done it. I came across an article that stated that floating isn't good for color accent hair ( blue, green, red etc ) as the salt will strip the color and can potentially ruin the tank. As it was late I waited till early morning to call and leave a message. I was comply aware it was less then 24 hrs, I was aware I may loose my gift card and I was also aware I may be charged. But to save my hair and the potential to ruin the ranks I cancelled. I received a call back by a women a few minutes after they had opened, I explained what the situation was as she proceeded to make me feel guilty about canceling! Telling me that it was a Saturday and people could of used that spot, and The weekends are busy for them and I'm taking money by not showing. She then said under her breath well I hope your sisters still coming. Then said she was writing in her " notes" I cancelled last minute. Not only was this unprofessional but it was rude! So you can keep your gift card and not only will I never show up but I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

A+++ Mountain Float Spa is the best! I've been a fair handful of times, and apart from its spotless cleanliness and soothing atmosphere, in customer service-this establishment can't be beat! One of the owners, Joey, has even been helping me create a personal float experience with my own music mixes. I've also experimented with much longer than normal floats and it has been amazing. As someone who doesn't get great sleep, sensory deprivation can be extremely refreshing! Their float cabins are entire rooms with full sized shower doors and seven foot ceilings so fear not, claustrophobics! You'll be floating in a 4x8' room! Also, they provide all sorts of amenities; from natural soap and shampoo, float essentials like earplugs, q-tips and then some, to their post float (and/or massage) room replete with teas, water, and chocolates!
