i tried this spot with some friends, and we decided to get some of the server's recommendations since we're not familiar with nepalese or indian food. the food was flavorful, and my favorite was the garlic naan that was so fresh. the samosas were a little lacking in flavor, but the sauces were so good and i liked how there was one a little more sour. i'd definitely recommend ordering a lot and doing family style! solid spot overall

Arvin and Puja prepare authentic Nepalese Food that is delicious. My favorites are the Palak Panner, Mixed Vegetable, and Paneer Tikamasala as I am vegetarian. The Nan and Roti are to die for. I love the down to earth homie atmosphere and friendly service. It you want good quality wholesome food in a relaxed and friendly setting, this is your place. I highly recommend Mount Everest to anyone.

    Mango lassi

Walking around the Berkley campus and someone recommended we try Mount Everest. We were seated immediately for a 7pm weekday dinner. ATMOSPHERE: The place felt clean and was brightly lit. It was nearly empty when we went. There is a small (~5 spots) parking lot in the back, so plan ahead to figure out parking as that lot was full. FOOD: We got the chicken biryani and a mango lassi. The biryani rice was seasoned really well, but there were only a few pieces of chicken included, and they tasted under seasoned. Nonetheless I still enjoyed the dish. The Mango lassi was creamy and sweet, just as it should be. Definitely recommend getting one of these! SERVICE: It took a few min for a server to say hello to us despite the place being completely empty. Our order was taken, and it took about 20 min for the food to come out. We also weren't checked up on after this. The restaurant also overcharged us (double) for an appetizer someone in our party got and luckily one of us noticed. PRICE/VALUE: The biryani was $16, which is on the pricier side especially for being around a college, but the portions were large. Overall, I liked the biryani rice and mango lassi, but the service and the low amount of chicken that was underseasoned were areas of improvement.

    chicken tikka masala, garlic naan

Chicken tikka masala is good as always, never disappoints. Naan was sooo good, super soft and buttery (comes w four pieces). We also got the saag paneer and navratna korma, both were super flavorful. Portions were pretty big and comes out fast, so definitely worth it. Great choice for Berkeley!

Used to live near this restaurant and would pass it on my way home everyday. Finally got to try it for lunch one day and my expectations were met. The restaurant is super cute, the decorations make it feel very cozy. The waitress that helped us was also friendly! I got one of the lunch specials and the serving size was definitely worth it. Honestly the most memorable thing was the side salad -- that doesn't mean the other parts of the dish weren't good, but I was most surprised by how good the salad was. Naan was nice and warm, and a good amount of crispy. With that said, I don't think anything was that notable, so I would come here if nearby, but wouldn't go out of my way.

    Samosa

The food was amazing! The samosas came with two sauces one green savory one and a red slightly sweeter one. The nanan was crispy and had a high level of cheese and garlic. The atmosphere was calming with beautiful photos, and the service was quick and friendly.

    Butter chicken

So basically I only got four pieces of chicken so four stars. Food was good but I was still really hungry after. I was happily frolicking downstairs to get more and they were already cleaning up.

Aloo Gobi Channa Masala Basmati Rice Papadum

The decorations were beautiful and definitely added to the vibe of the restaurant, the service was fast, and the food came out piping hot.

Never tried this place before so decided to swing by with a friend, but we both felt that it was underwhelming. First of all, none of the dishes come with rice, even though everything is $15+. I tried the eggplant, and felt that the portion was relatively small for the price. The flavor was just okay, it felt like there were a lot of spices in the dish, but it tasted confusing and like there was a lot going on but no distinct flavors.

Decided to eat in Berkeley before going to the cal versus Nevada game. The menu looked good so we decided to try it. When we entered we were the first diners for the evening. You can scan the menu or they will give you a hard menu. We settled on garlic naan, chicken chhoilla, and mather paneer. All were very tasty. The chicken chhoillahad lots of tender chicken and onions. The fennel seed added a nice crunch. There was enough for 4 people. The paneer was also very tasty. We were surprised there were only 4 pieces of paneer. The garlic naan was chewy. Service was unremarkable. We had to waive to get refills of water. If you are looking for Indian/Himalayan food this is a good place.

Not close to authentic Indian food. It's watered down, bland, spiceless stuff. No value for money either. It just doesn't taste right.

Ask the Community - Mount Everest Restaurant

I wanted to know if this restaurant serves organic meat as well as vegetables and what kind of oil's they use?

I don't know the answer for sure, but most restaurants are going to use cheap inflammatory oils like cottonseed or canola oil.

    You guys deliver?

I was there yesterday and a delivery service (Doordash?) came in and picked up an order. That may be your answer.

The meat was so tender and tasteful and tubular and tummy exciting I have to know the recipe for my future grandkids . So I paid extra for something I didn't get and had my time wasted. On top of that I left a tip after ordering even though I did a to go order. Hate to leave a negative review because the food actually tasted quite good but this was a terrible experience.

The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.

I got an assortment of Turkish delight and some pistachio baklava ($2.99). The Turkish delight is sold by weight across all the varieties and goes for $16.99/lb. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and offered us a sample of one of the flavors to try which I thought was a nice gesture. Everything looked so good, so we picked a couple different pieces of Turkish delight to try. To my surprise, my favorite ended up being the saffron, though rose petal with pomegranate and sour cherry with pastachio were close seconds.
