Finally, they opened...wonder what took so long... We were here on a very recent Sunday around 4:30 p.m. At that time, we were the only customers in the place. As someone else pointed out, it was confusing as to where one goes to place their order. We, too, walked down the center aisle only to get told that they start on the left hand side. Later, when we had our food and sat in a booth did we notice the area where one lines up to order. Before coming here, we both looked at the menu online and took notes as to what we planned to order. Looking back, that was a good idea. It made ordering so much easier. We both got bowls. First thing to put in the bowl is the "base". I chose chaufa rice. Then, on to the protein. I took a chance and ordered "spicy pulled chicken" as I'm leery when ordering anything spicy that it may be too spicy. Then came the add-ins (you can put up to 8 add-ins in your bowl). Even though online they did say "avocado" was extra, I added it. Turns out it's actually guac (why not just say so?). Also, I got plantains (I almost didn't see them because they, oddly enough, were cut into small cubes), pico de gallo and tortilla chips (which are actually "strips"). For my sauce, I chose chimichurri. My husband got one of their "curated" bowls" called "picante bowl". It consisted of: "romaine lettuce, cilantro rice, grilled steak, guacamole, roasted corn, spicy relish, pickled onions, sour cream, chimichurri, Habanero sauce & crispy jalapeno". As for how the food was---Overall, I found that I chose well when composing my bowl. The spicy pulled chicken was, indeed, quite spicy. There was one small piece that was tough which I removed from the bowl. They use dark meat. The guac turned out to be the perfect foil for that when eaten together as it tamped down the spiciness. The plantains were sweet and well sauteed. There was a small amount of finely chopped onions in the pico de gallo which was good as it didn't overwhelm the other flavors in it. The tortilla chips add a nice element of crunch to the bowl. Chimichurri was the right sauce (all sauces are served in small containers) as it was tame and added some moisture to the bowl. Chaufa rice was on the bland side, which I didn't mind. My husband did like his bowl. He liked the ingredients in it. The one thing he didn't care for was that the meat was overcooked and tough. Interestingly, he didn't find the Habanero sauce to be spicy at all! I got him to try the chimichurri and put in his bowl and he thought it did work well with the other ingredients. To drink, we got a bottle of Jarritos pineapple soda. Fortunately, the woman who made our bowl had a bottle opener at the register. Some things I wish they would change --- They need a sign that says something like "order here". Also, they need to label the various ingredients that are available. For example, good thing I asked about the plantains or I would have missed them. The place is popular. As we were eating our meal, several customers arrived in a steady stream. The dining area was clean. There are booths as well as tables and a communal table in the middle. We would go back.

It may sound unusual, but it is surprisingly tender and flavorful. It comes in a delicious stew served over stewed potatoes and rice. The steak is tasty, although the cut of meat could be better. It is served with a salad and topped with an egg. The Queperi is essentially beef brisket served with cheesy rice, fried plantains, and yuca. It is a delicious and satisfying plate. If you like hot dogs or sausage, try the Pique Macho. It is a huge plate of sautéed beef and sliced sausage cooked with onions, finished with slightly cooked tomato wedges and topped with jalapeños. The beef and sausage sit over a bed of steak fries, and all of the flavorful juices soak into the fries, giving them an incredible flavor. The downside is that some of the meat is a bit tendonous, but the overall flavor is very good and the dish is definitely worth trying. The Lomo Saltado is another good choice. The flavor is quite good, and the portion is generous. They also have a bakery section with Napoleons and a variety of Bolivian baked goods, including cheese bread. Everything we tried tasted fresh and was pretty good. Overall, there are lots of interesting Bolivian dishes to try here, and the generous portions make it a good place to explore different flavors.

Especially at their prices & the hoity toity atmosphere, you'd think they'd also be well-run and reasonably accommodating, eh? Nope. Worth the drive? Not any more. Worth the wait? Definitely not anymore! For as many times as we've frequented Pisco in Reston with a small group, one would think they'd get their seating straightened out. Every time we've attempted to eat here on a reservation, they've had issues. Never set up and ready to seat us. Never prepared upon opening... and it's never busy when they first open which is why we always go early. But, they are NEVER ready to seat us. What's the use of making a reservation a week in advance if you're not going to be ready to seat the party nor accommodate the request? How would you like to find out at the last minute that they're going to split up your party at two different tables on two different sides of the restaurant because they weren't prepared when you gave them a week's notice via reservation? The food isn't that good to have to keep going through the challenge of being seated every time we make a reservation for a group. They're really pricey, too. So, certainly not worth this chronic headache. There are PLENTY of other places in the Town Center or in Herndon/Reston in general where you can get a tasty meal, not drop a day's pay, and have your entire party served well together. The taco joint across the street is definitely a more pleasant experience, for example, and I would certainly recommend bartaco...give them a try instead for a fun environment and some good eats.
