Like most people, I was like "mhmmmm.. expensive af Asian food???" But yo, this place hit me like a truck. Literally the flavors in each dish were so unexpected, but blended together in a perfect, whimsical dream. I was so happy.
The waitress recommended that bae and I get 5 dishes (3 small, 1 medium and 1 large) since everything is kinda tapa-style and meant to share. So we got Brussel Sprouts, Shrimp Skewers, Catfish Claypot, Stuffed Cabbage and Calamari Bokum. Damn.. there aren't words to describe this meal. First off, the size of each dish was actually ginormous! Definitely, 5 dishes for 2 people was kinda pushin' it. Woo!
Brussel Sprouts - Each brussel sprout was perfectly singed and salted. The flavor of each sprout was amazing and crunchy at the same time. There were soooo many brussel sprouts in this dish that I would've been happy just having that as a meal, but no no no we just gettin' started...
Calamari Bokum - At first, I was confused at the combination of papas and calamari. It was a little weird and didn't QUITE go together but the potatoes and calamari were sooooo good by themselves. It was a little spicy, but worth a try. If I came back, I probably wouldn't get this again.
Catfish Claypot - This was probably my favorite dish after the Brussel Sprouts. The tofu in this was amazingly put together and was made with a sweet sauce. The catfish had less of a flavor but if you ate it along with the tofu and the soup, it was gucci. Also, might I say the rice that came along with this was unlike anything I've tasted. It was cooked (?) with extra oil, garlic and sesame. It was such an oddly satisfying taste I've never had from just plain white rice.
Shrimp Skewers - Ok sorry this kinda didn't do it for me. It was just a HUGE shrimp on a stick with some fatty pork on the end. The pork was really really good, along with the vegetables, but I think the flavor of the shrimp just wasn't there and didn't cut it for me. Sorry...
Stuffed Cabbage - This was definitely the most unique dish of the bunch. It was not a cabbage, first of all, hahahha... but it was a lasagna-style dish with layers of crunchy rice, pork, kimchi flavor stacked on top of each other. The pork was kinda eh.. like I don't even remember what it tasted like because it just wasn't that memorable. I kinda found myself picking at the rice and eating it because it was honestly the best part of the dish for me.
OF COURSE, DRINKS! You didn't think I came here without some alcohol, no? Me and bae got a bottle of Mamacita white wine. It was a little more on the sparkly side, which I'm not super into but it did the job. We purely got the wine just for the name hahah...
What really blew me away with this restaurant is just the little quirks that were added to small things, like the rice, the pork in the skewers and the quality of the sprouts. I think what excites me about this place is that they're truly trying to innovate food and play with different flavors to push the needle yaknow? Would love to come back! read more
