MotorCity JavaHouse is a true Detroit staple, and what makes it even more special is that it's family-owned. You can really feel the care and warmth in everything they do. Their smoothies are incredibly delicious, and the iced chai matcha latte is hands-down my favorite. I also love the rotating soups and daily specials -- there's always something comforting and flavorful to try.

Motor City Java House is a huge breath of fresh air in Detroit. A coffee shop 10 years in the making, I discovered. The owner, Alicia, has been working on opening this spot and renovating it that many years with a local nonprofit called "Blightbusters" which works to revitalize neighborhoods in Detroit that need it. How can you not want to support a spot like that? They've got great coffee--free trade and otherwise (bonus!), fantastic little snacks here and there, and they also do fruit smoothies! Hurrah! The space itself is really large and separated into two rooms--one with some tables near the counter and the other with a homier vibe to it. A great fireplace mantel, couches, and other comfy seating for more relaxed get togethers and work stuff. It's the perfect place to set up shop and work on your own, or pop in with a group of friend for a beverage or two and conversation (perhaps before a movie at the Redford Theatre a couple of doors down?). They're affiliated with the Artist's Village next door where they host great events like open mic poetry evenings and chess competitions. The decor is funky and colorful with lots of great art and sculptures to be found both inside and out. I just love this place and I can't wait to see what else they bring to the community!

Motor City Java House is a lovely place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Owner and Barista, Alicia, makes every visitor feel at home. Not only did the gracious Alicia cheerily help us wipe up our unfortunate spill, she also spent a 1/2 hour with our group giving us the grand tour of the place and the connected Artist Village. The copper ceilings pair perfectly with the golden and apple walls, giving the place a homey feeling. The coffee is tasty and the bakery, made right next door, is yummy! Right down the block is the Redford Theater. We will be back soon to take in an old-timey movie and sip some java. Thanks, Alicia!

This place has character. This place has a cool factor. The owners are nice. They have live entertainment at night. Only downside is parking. I just can't park my baby anywhere. Décor: 4 out of 5 (3 for the cafe, but all the other spots are just cool to look at) Food: NA out of 5 Drinks: 3 out of 5 Service: 5 out of 5 Cleanliness: 3 out of 5

I came across this dope spot by coincidence. It's a cool, friendly and inspiring space all about Detroit. The best part is the back courtyard of murals that can be rented out for events. A must see and feel...oh and good tea too!

Next time I head to the Redford Theater (which is next door) I will for sure stop by to say hi to Miss Alicia.

I was in the area yesterday evening and did a quick search for coffee. I found that Mother…read moreHandsome was on the way home and decided to give them a try. I got the "burnt orange espresso tonic" and a "rosemary biscuit". Both were amazing. The biscuit was warm and buttery and the included jam (which appeared house made) was the perfect compliment. The flavors were all distinct but complimentary and made this into a spectacular treat. The espresso tonic is the best I've had. The flavor was fresh, light and fruity, with the bitterness of the coffee keeping it grounded and sophisticated. I even ate the orange slice at the end. The wait for my drink was probably about 7-10 minutes but knowing that in the future, I'm willing to plan around if the product is going to be this good. I want to come back and try the food but I will make it a point to return the next time I'm on this side of town.

There is a nice kick to this pizza and the pizza was made to order and arrived to the table hot and steamy - just as it should be --Yaay! No additions were needed I.e.: crushed pepper or Parmesan. Customer service id rate 4.5/5 it appeared as though a team member was leaving for shift so although she made our first round of drinks and took our order. This waitress was ready to jet out and did not check in on us-- thankfully we didn't need anything more. There after the team was focused on cleaning up for closing time. I understand, but I am still a paying customer too. There is a private seating area that can be rented out, there is the option to rent the entire restaurant too. Inside the private room area there are toys and books- kid friendly and when the weather breaks there is a garage door that can open up to a patio. In addition to pizza and cocktails/beer there is coffee and pastries. I would come back to try the pastries and a latte, as I am not a coffee drinker. But there is multiple bags of coffee for sale too. All in all I am happy we stumbled upon this restaurant based on other Yelp! Reviews. See you soon again.
