Buyers are going to pay NM excise tax on the purchase price of the vehicle and registration fees no matter where they buy a vehicle BUT at Moto Authority buyers get gouged with an excessive document fee for Moto Authority making the trip to MVD. Moto Authority gets a commission for selling your bike and on top of that they gouge the buyer with an excessive document fee for their time. They should be satisfied with the commission on the sale of a bike they have no money invested in. They do provide floor space to display the bike and their overhead and operating costs are real BUT the sales commission should cover the trip to MVD. Moto Authority says that "For Over 17 Years: New Mexico's Preferred Choice for Motorcycles..." BUT that reputation was built by the old owner. The new owner(s) acts like a car dealer with inflated after the sale fees. When you want to sell your bike the smart move is to spend $5 and advertise your bike on Craigslist. The buyer will pay you directly and you won't pay commission to anyone. Then the buyer goes to MVD to pay the tax and registration fees without paying a document fee. That's MORE money in YOUR pocket and more money in the buyer's pocket. 10/11/25 EDIT to the owner: Your "document fees" are excessive and that is a FACT. If your consignment customers don't list their bikes on Craigslist and keep more money in theirs and the buyers pockets then they deserve what they get at Moto Authority. Your "pride" in your document fees won't get you what you think. I supported Moto Authority in the past and always got a fair deal from Steve but I wouldn't buy a quart of oil from you.

Well, what can I say about J & D Cycle? Firstly, thank you. I brought my bike in for what I…read morethought was going to be a routine service and hopefully, an intermittent issue that I had been dealing with for years would be addressed, instead of hearing the usual, "we weren't able to replicate the issue, so we don't know what you're referring to." Along with the usual service checks, their initial thought that I was missing a jet kit was correct. They also discovered that one of the diaphragms was damaged and sorted that out. Bike sounded great, ran great, job done. But, lo and behold, the damaged diaphragm wasn't the cause of the intermittent issue. Back I went, and wouldn't you know, my bike didn't misbehave at all in their care until I went to leave. Finally, a mechanic heard exactly what I had been trying to explain. So, back to work they went trying to chase down the problem. This was such an intermittent problem, they thought they had found the cause and fixed it. And once again, it reared its ugly head as I was about to leave. So back to work they went, once more checking everything over. After much head scratching and working through the usual culprits, the source of the problem had been isolated and addressed. I'm back on the road, and the bike no longer has an occasionally missing cylinder. Now the only question for me is, how far down that rabbit hole do I wish to go? I honestly can't recommend J&D cycles enough. When most bike shops only wanted oil changes or wouldn't touch a bike more than 10 years old (really??) J & D said, "Bring it in." I had an idea as to how much this was likely to run. What I was expecting it to cost and what it cost me in the end wasn't the same, it came in a little under what I thought it was going to cost me, so again, thank you!

I am an electrician and was hired by them to repair the storefront lighting and a couple of other electrical items way back around '08 or so. Did a bunch of work at their residence as well. Resolved a couple of overload electrical situations for them. I paid him his fair(ish) shop rate and he paid what I asked. But in fact, my rate with him was very gentle. HALF the hourly I was charging 'call-in' customers. And I was already way below rate with everyone because of the bank BS foreclosure/recession/crash thing that was happening then. I finished those bikes and haven't been doing much other than working, working since then and hadn't seen them till about a month ago. I brought to them a spoke front wheel that needed a tube. Dismount, tube purchase ($20), balance and re-mount. Firstly and as usual, anytime I ask how he is doing, I have to sit there and listen thru one or more long, dragged out personal story about whatever the subject is I regrettably bring up or that he feels he needs to fully elaborate on. Interesting ever? Not really. If one can keep up, one can maybe get a little tech data out of the rant. Always terribly difficult to understand him and always one sided. "Yeah?", ummhuh..., that sucks!, oh really?, no way!, and the like are about all one can add to one of his counter-sit novels. AND, the entire time I'm there at the counter painfully listening and intermittently trying to divert the conversation to a close, his fucking two large German shepherds-one esp-are K-9 police dog growling, barking and approaching the 3ft tall toddler fence they have holding the drooling one back anytime I simply adjust my standing position. Fucking scary, nerve wracking and DANGEROUS! Isolate the fucking dog man. Esp if you know the person standing in front of you and everyone else in the store. Quiet _____, Quiet!" over and over doesn't do shit and probably won't make a fuck bit of difference should that dog get a hold of a hand or get past that irresponsible toddler fence. Everything else seemed in order. I didn't ask about the price, just wanted to get out of the store at that point. I figured $50, $60 bucks. $20 for the tube, $30 for the labor. An auto tire change is roughly $20-$30 and includes lifting the car, wheel removal, a dis-mount, a repair, balance, remount, and re-install. I took my wheel to Larry's only because it was close to where my bike is stored. AND because I thought It would be nice to catch-up a little. I have a good friend in common with them who is away. After making it thru Larry's personal jabberwocky and receiving my repair ticket, I left the store. I received the 'ready for pick-up' call a couple of days later and went down. $110.00 for a tube, dismount, balance (spoke weights), mount, and a shop supplies charge? $60 fucking dollars for labor to change a fucking motorcycle tire OFF THE BIKE? Shop supply fees? Seems that Larry's is just like everyone else who's internet fucked. No rear view mirror, disconnected, underlying hostility of whatever leached-in sort, and distracted. Enough to shit-can their business and personal integrity. With me anyway. I wish them no Ill will. But just as other folks from the past I've had to reconsider. Go Fuck Yourselves. Maybe go back to a reasonable and personable $20-30, off the bike dismount/repair/balance/mount charge? Esp with past, loyal, pay in full and on time customers. And then there's the discount residential electrical work... But never mind my assumption of an "in kind" repair fee gesture: ONE HUNDRED & TEN dollars for a single cash & carry tube and tire service??? I DO NOT recommend Larry's Cycle. For wheels & tires anyway. Unless you don't mind paying dealership prices. $110.00 for a tube and tube replace... Fuck Me. Cost for 4 new auto tire dismount/balance/mount is about $110 bucks. A little different process but not by much. Find a utube video, get parts off the internet (as they and everyone else does) and repair or replace it yourself.
