We came here on the last night of our trip and were excited to try some mash. We waited a bit to get seated. The staff seemed very overwhelmed, and the place was busy and was understaffed. They kept apologizing for the wait, but were very friendly and helpful. Ambiance is an English pub feel. - Classic mash, steak and black heart stout pie, traditional gravy (5/5): The mash was so yummy, lots of flavor. The pie was savory with great flavor. Gravy added a nice touch, but was a bit salty. Still so good. - Horseradish mash, cumberland sausage, onion gravy (4/5): The mash tasted great as did the sausage. The onion gravy wasn't as savory as we were hoping for, but overall the dish was great.

We came here for dessert and it was outstanding. I wish we would of eaten there for lunch. We got the blackberry apple crumble with custard and the sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely fantastic

Delicious, large portions, good price, great service. What more could you ask for? I had the meat pie, which looked much better than the sausages and mash. The couple next to me ordered one of each and definitely preferred the pie. Cheddar mash and a hearty gravy with a meat pie, you can't go wrong. They're dessert is apparently good too, if you have room for it

horseradish mash, chili bangers, onion gravy. Awesome idea to pick and choose flavors along the way

This is their second location. The original had great reviews. This will too soon enough. It's a genius but simple idea - choose a mash flavor, choose a sausage/pie, and then choose a gravy flavor. Especially for someone like me who doesn't love just plain potatoes, this was excellent. I got the horseradish mash, chili sausages, and onion gravy. My wife went more traditional other than the mash - she got sweet potato mash, beef pie, traditional gravy. All the food was very good and the food came out surprisingly quickly. Everything was way more flavorful than just your typical bangers n mash. It was a pretty sizable portion as well (plenty of mash with two sausages). Felt like they needed another waiter/waitress as it was just one woman for the whole restaurant. It's not a big restaurant but when it got even a little busy, she was running everywhere.

I really like the menu and how they have it laid out. Sadly, they didn't have a lot of options available the day I went but still enjoyed what I had. It was a traditional bangers and mash but feel the mash could have been creamier.

A friend recommended this place while I was on holiday and I can't stop thinking about it! The pies are so stuffed and savory, this is definitely one of the best pies I've ever had! I loved the savory gravy and the mash was perfect. Can't recommend this place enough, also appreciated that they had so many vegetarian options will definitely be back to try more on the menu next time. Loved this place!

we secured reservations two weeks prior and mistakenly went to the one on carnaby. a much busier and smaller location than this one. after rushing the 10 min walk to new row we were able to sit at a booth immediately. food was worth the scramble. everything had so much flavor - we ordered the veggie sausage meal & the steak stout pie. i'm confident everything else on their menu is equally as delicious.

Maxing food and service. The most amazing English meal anywhere. 10 stars. The food is hot! Fresh! Flavorful. Everyone working there is happy and love chatting with the customers. They are very nice explaining the ingredients and flavors. An absolutely wonderful meal.

Great visit on our last night in town. Service was attentive and helpful, and the food was awesome. We had sausages and a traditional mince pie with traditional gravy, mushy peas, and buttered cabbage; all great.

Mother Mash is a new casual British restaurant in Covent Garden. The standard combo includes (1) meat (different flavors of meat pies or sausages -- including vegetarian options), (2) mash (original mashed potatoes, colcannon, bubble and squeak, etc.), and (3) gravy (multiple flavors to choose). They also offer sides (such as mushy peas or beans) and desserts (such as sticky toffee pudding). I'm personally partial to the meat salads (as an alternate main) for something with more veggies and less potato. The interior is chill and works for eating solo or as a small group. You can also get takeaway, which is usually quite fast (maybe 5-10 min). Prices are around £10 for a standard main. Overall a tasty place for British fare.

Simply look for The Pie Shop sign and pick your pie which is served with silky smooth mashed potatoes and lashings of rich gravy. Every time I eat a pie this place is my benchmark for the best pies ever! The  menu at Battersea Pie Station includes classics like steak and stout, minced beef and onion and chicken and mushroom, plus more creative, veggie options including butternut squash and goat's cheese. The steak and stout is my ultimate favorite! This place is my go to pie place every time I'm in London. I always try to stay in Covent Garden just so I can come here. This is my basis of the perfect meat pie with the pleasingly firm crusts and sides of mash and roasted potatoes are so delicious. The rich red-wine gravy comes separately in a small jug. I smother the pie with the gravy. Ingredient quality was excellent. They have mini pies and the regular sized pies. Even for a counter-service place this little cafe is terrific value - and you will be surprised that for Covent Garden you can eat a reasonably priced and uber delicious meal that makes me full the whole day! 5 stars can't wait to come back!

Minced Beef & Onion: The most popular, apparently. Smooth and moist inside with a buttery flaky outside. Steak & Stout: Same great crust, but with a very distinctive inside, chunks of firm roast and thick gravy where you could actually taste the stout. Probably my favorite pie here. Chicken & Mushroom: A nice variation from beef, but by no means lesser. With it's large chunks and umami gravy, this was like a quick hit fix for when craving a proper chicken pot pie. Mash & Gravy: The mash was smooth and buttery. The gravy was more than plentiful. Kinda lives under the shadow of the delicious pies though. Sticky Toffee Pudding: Good, but not great. The toffee sauce felt a bit too thick and wasn't as warmed as I like it. The sponge cake was alright, but kinda dry, like they just plopped into the toffee sauce puddle. But it did do a good job of soaking up the sauce with a little spoon dexterity.
