They did an amazing job taking care of my dogs. The staff is 10/10. Doctor Mario is extremely kind and thoughtful. The online store is really convenient.

day after surgery, sleeping a lot, eating, getting better by the minute

5+ These guys should be 5+ stars. I come from the city and the corporate world, one of my jobs was to clearly know bad service vs. great service. Motherlode is in a very small group at the top of the "great service" list. In every step my dog and I took in getting her surgery, I encountered PROFESSIONALISM and SINCERITY. They see pet issues every day, for us pet owners this is one big deal with our one pet. They made me feel like my dog was the most important one, but I bet every pet parent that came through those doors felt the same thing. The surgery went well, everything was made clear to me, any question I had was clearly answered, and follow up is happening. Top notch staff and doctors! If you read any negative comments, it's probably a person who complains about everything. We are lucky to have Motherlode!

Amazing!!! 10/10!!! We adopted a 14.5 year old Collie 2 months ago who had never been given a dental by her previous owner. She had also not been groomed for likely years. I want so much to give her paradise after all she has been through. My major concern was the price of her dental. One of her canines and 1 other tooth were grey/green and rotting. Several of her other teeth were ground down to the pulp. My local vets in the Bay Area literally wanted to charge more than a small car to fix her mouth. Her teeth had been chattering and she was drooling from day 1. I knew she was in horrible pain but I don't have 10K to spend, even on myself. She was so neglected for years, I didn't want to have to put her down for the dental pain which another human (I am sure either unknowingly or unwillingly without malice) inflicted on her. I called my sister in law who was a vet tech for years to ask for advice. She said, "Go to Mother Lode in Grass Valley. It's worth the trip." It's a 3 hour car ride from home but our innocent Collie'steeth chattering and droolng made me not even care. I made the appt that day. Unfortunately, I caught the flu the day before her first available appt. I had to reschedule for a month out. Worth it!!! I am crying with happiness in the car because my beautiful, sweet, intelligent and loving senior Collie can now have a hopefully long and fun, pain free life of adventure at home with me, my hubs, and the rest of her pack- 2 chihuahuahs, 1 of whom she is already bonding with and the other on the way, and our 14 year old kitty who she loves. I am SO grateful to Mother Lode and the amazing and very caring staff here. Dr Cameron extracted 7 very rotted teeth, 2 of which were complex to remove. The techs even shaved off the horribly matted dreadlocks she hadn't let me touch *and* trimmed her nails. With Care Credit for 12 months, I will be able to comfortably pay off her dental that would have ruined my husband and I financially if we'd done it back home in Sunnyvale. The facility here is *beautiful*. They have an in house lab and the vets and techs *know their stuff*. They obviously take great care and attention to their work- they are the Real Deal. Thank you so much, Mother Lode Veterinary hospital, for giving us time to heal her emotional wounds now that her teeth will no longer be agony. This is a highly compassionate, loving and amazing vet hospital. I know of SO many other vets where dogs or cats didn't survive their dentals- especially if the fur baby was over 10 years old. Our sweet Collie is now blissfully sleeping in my back seat as I get ready for the 3 hour drive home. Dr Cameron and team ROCK!!! I HIGHLY recommend Mother Lode to all who are reading these words. I will be bringing our 8 year old chi/terrier cross here for his very needed dental ASAP too. So blessed. Thanks again, Mother Lode!!! I will be back!!

10/10 highly recommend. Everything is spotless and professional. They're completely transparent about pricing and walk you through the bill. Between their professionalism and friendliness, they don't miss a single detail.

Happy puppy!

When Booboo had a big cut on his back they got him right in. They didn't charge unnecessary tests etc. I'm very happy with them.

I write this review with a heavy heart. I typically have nothing but wonderful things to say about this clinic. However, on January 20th I took in my elderly cat and knew in my heart I would not be bringing him home. After the staff ran tests and concluded my Louie was in kidney failure I made the difficult decision to put him down. With that said, they administered some medication and explained that I would have a few minutes with my boy. As I settled in to say my goodbyes and wipe tears, I was interrupted by the staff to discuss payment... really?! I did express to the vet of my disapproval and he apologized and although that did not sit well I made excuses for the insensitive situation. Thereafter, I paid the $600 plus dollars to leave with an empty carrier believing I would receive a call when my Louie's ashes would be available for pick-up. This part was NOT explained to me and for this I am beyond heartbroken. I received a call from another company to inform me that my precious Louie was in a freezer waiting for me to make a decision on whether he would be cremated alone or with a group of animals with differing prices of upwards of $500 plus dollars. My minimalist option at this point was a tuft of his hair for $125... this is every pet parent's ultimate nightmare. This was extortion and playing on emotions of owners everywhere AND NOT OKAY! I have three other fur babies at home and I will NO longer take another pet to Mother Lode. This facility has become too commercialized and lost sight of sensitivity to end of life care. :(

Original owners are handing it off to new owners who don't seem to keep finances in mind as much as the old owners. Thinking of switching.

$1 Treatment Turned Into a $525 Bill…read more I brought my dog in for a cracked, bleeding nose. The actual treatment was a single application of silver nitrate, which costs about $1 per stick. The clinic inflated this to a $525 bill by running their full "standard sedation protocol" and presenting every step as if it were medically necessary. What they charged me: $90 -- Urgent care exam $75 -- Heartworm/tick (SNAP 4DX) test $150 -- Pre-anesthetic lab panel (electrolytes, CBC, chem 10) $135 -- Sedation & monitoring $75 -- "Miscellaneous procedure" (silver nitrate) What actually should have been charged: $90 -- Exam (standard) $0-$135 -- Sedation only if truly needed $1 -- Silver nitrate stick What was NOT medically required: Heartworm/tick test -- unnecessary for a brief sedation or nose treatment Full pre-anesthetic lab panel -- not required for a quick, low-risk procedure $75 markup for a $1 stick Everything was presented as mandatory -- no alternatives, no discussion of what could safely be skipped. If I disagreed, it was implied that my dog's health was at risk. The reasonable cost for this kind of visit should have been around $91-$226, -not- $525. If you bring your pet here, please understand the difference between medical necessity and clinic protocol, as well as markup. Ask questions before you agree to anything.

They were both misdiagnosed at their previous vet and have thrived from the care at Pine Creek. I also find their prices quite affordable for how often I'm in there but more than that I feel like they love my pets as much as I do and they're in good hands. I recently did a dental procedure on my cat who also has a heart condition. To say I was nervous was an understatement but they answered all my questions about medications and his heart and I felt completely safe taking him in. During the procedure, they kept me updated on his progress and their findings and he did great, healed up quickly and is just fine now. I think the best thing is that they are open Monday-Saturday 8-6pm because it gives me peace of mind. One of the biggest downsides to living in this area is not having a 24 hour ER vet nearby but knowing my vet is open until 6 even on Saturdays eases my mind a little bit. I actually found Pine Creek because I was watching my parent's dog years ago and something happened but the vet she went to was closing at 5 and wouldn't see her even though it was only 4:45pm. They told me Pine Creek was open until 6pm and when I called they got her right in and we were there until around 8pm. Not only did they help her for what I brought her in for but they told me about a new drug on the market for arthritis in dogs that my parents ended up trying and it seemed to really help her in her last few years. I will always highly recommend Pine Creek.

HOWEVER, she failed to disclose that she detected the presence of a Mast Cell Tumor near the surgical site that presented extreme risk, and failed to disclose additional masses detected in other limbs that would have disqualified Mia as a candidate for amputation surgery. Instead, I was told that Mia's other limbs were arthritic but healthy and of no concern. All 3rd party veterinarians who have now reviewed the case have stated that it was unethical and never should have been performed based on this concealed information and Mia's age. It has become clear after reading the statements of the state medical board complaint FILED BY HER OWN EMPLOYEES that she knew alternative treatments would not be profitable for HER, so she coerced us into the $6,000 surgery. Dr. Barker has been overheard by staff members saying that she "only wants cash cow clients", clearly demonstrating that her decision making processes are completely financially motivated, not ethically motivated. - Dr. Barker withheld the fact that a surgery of this caliber was beyond her professional abilities and that her facility lacked the necessary resources to manage any complications. - Prior to surgery, Dr. Barker's staff repeatedly expressed their concerns over the ethics of the surgery and whether Dr. Barker should be attempting it at all. She ignored these concerns. - On the day of surgery, Dr. Barker stated to her staff repeatedly that she shouldn't be doing the surgery as she recognized it in the moment to be beyond her abilities. She chose to attempt the surgery anyway. - Dr. Barker started the surgery, cut Mia open, then panicked, left Mia hemorrhaging on the operating table for 45+ minutes while she then called in an outside surgeon to come to her facility to complete the procedure. Mia lost a lot of blood during this time. None of this information was disclosed to me. Instead, I was told "the surgery went very well and there were no complications or concerns." - After the 2nd surgeon completed the procedure, Mia failed to return to consciousness and her heart rate remained elevated to 220+ BPM with falling blood pressure for over 3 hours. I was never contacted during this time. I had to just show up to the facility out of gut feeling that something was wrong to learn this. - Dr. Barker told her staff that she recognized Mia's post-operative condition as critical and that she needed to be immediately transferred to another facility to save her life. None of this was communicated to me until after I had been at the facility for close to an hour, costing us precious time. She also failed to disclose to me that she told her staff that Mia would need a life saving blood transfusion due to blood loss after she abandoned the surgery. - I asked Dr. Barker repeatedly why this was happening - she failed to disclose any of these details and just said "I don't know." - I was then forced to put my dying dog on a stretcher into the back of my truck and drive her over an hour through rush hour traffic to attempt to save her life. By the time we reached the other facility she was in very critical condition. She died hours later. - I returned to FTLOP days later to ask Dr. Barker again what had happened. She continued to conceal the truth and pretend that nothing out of the ordinary had occurred during Mia's surgery. She also stated to her staff "I'm worried about what's going to happen if he finds out the truth."... - HER ENTIRE STAFF OF 10 PEOPLE WALKED OUT ON THEIR JOBS JUST DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS and filed a complaint with the state medical board due to these events. All statements here are taken directly from that complaint and my direct interactions with her. FB: Justice For Mia Meatball
