Id been going to motherload vet for 15 years and wondered why it went down hill the last year. I was sold in 11-2020. So yesterday when i had to have my 15 year old dog put down and they were not helping me do it after 15 years. So we call grass valley vet hospital and they said bring her in and were very nice to Lucy Thank you GVVH. read more

I scheduled an appointment Wednesday for the following Monday for my two cats to establish care and get annual exams. When I arrived early, I was told it had been canceled because they had "repeatedly tried to contact me." My phone showed no calls and only one text reminder (not a cancellation notice) sent an hour and 20 minutes before the appointment. Staff said they were handling an emergency but could fit us in after about 30 minutes. I understand emergencies take priority, but we waited an hour for a room, then another 45 minutes. When one of my cats began breathing rapidly, I had to go looking for help. I found Dr. Price dismissive. He entered looking at his cellphone, asked for my cats medical histories, and said he had not reviewed the records I'd arranged to have sent ahead. He called me a "walk-in," who would be fit in where they could, despite my scheduled appointment. When I said I was losing trust in the situation, he said he didn't care about working with me if I had trust issues and asked whether I wanted the exams or wanted to leave. He completed one exam, which seemed thorough, then abruptly announced he was going to go "euthanize an animal" and left. I understand that another animal needed care, but the blunt announcement, with no explanation of what it meant for our visit, added to an already distressing situation. I decided to leave without the second cat's exam. When I tried to explain my concerns to the office manager, she declined to hear them and said they would no longer work with me. I had already said I would not return. This was a horrible, stressful experience. I was worried about my cats and kept hoping things would improve. Instead, I felt dismissed. I wish I had left sooner. read more

this doctor said my dog had to be neutered because we thought she was pregnant because she had an incident with a male dog and she's only 8 months old we decided to go to a different clinic and turns out she is not pregnant and they still insisted on us playing the $700 this doctor office so we could get her neutered but that would have given her back hip problems and done severe damage for the future read more

Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital is a compassionate and amazing group. We just had to go through the hardest thing with sending our Ruby girl over the rainbow bridge. The entire staff was caring and helpful throughout everything. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate this team. We have no question about where we will take our pets for care in the future. I'm so grateful for the skill and understanding they all showed us. Thank you for living your purpose in such a meaningful way, GV Vet Hospital. read more

Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital - Our sweet Ruby girl... rest well, dear friend. - Veterinarians Near Me - Grass Valley, California

if you use chewy for your prescriptions be prepared to have every prescription order DENIED and then calling them to try to have you upsold on annual checkups..... the doctors are competent BUT the staff is not. be prepared to fight for your dogs health and wellness every time a prescription comes due with someone that's not even qualified as a veternarian... I'm beyond frustrated. Been with this vet for 2 years and they STILL DENY MY DOGS PRESCRIPTION - every time... every dam time... I'm so over it read more

I had a troubling experience here, and feel it's necessary for me to share so others don't end up in the same boat. First and foremost, I am stunned how poorly I was treated by the manager Brooke. My mom recommended this office to me, as she loves Dr. Courtright. I booked an appointment over the phone for a stray kitten I recently rescued to receive shots, and also mentioned I thought he had a respiratory infection. The representative I spoke to was named Haven. Haven informed me that because my pet had never been seen there before, I would receive a discounted exam fee of $25, as they were running a promotion for first time patients. My appointment with the doctor was great. She was super thorough and informative. She was very kind and gentle. She ended up prescribing him antibiotics for his cold, and said we should hold off for a couple weeks on shots until he was feeling better. Once I went to check out and was given my total, it seemed high, so I asked if I received the $25 promotion. I was told I actually didn't qualify for the promotion anymore because there was an "issue" at my appointment, and the promotion was only for "wellness" appointments. I was confused and asked what that meant. They seemed confused as well what it meant, but ultimately told me it was because my pet had to be prescribed medication. I did say at that time that was unfortunate because I had been told I'd receive the promotion and never was informed of this stipulation. One of the girls at the desk said she had told them to put that in the fine print on the website so there wasn't confusion, but nevertheless she couldn't give me the discount. The other girl, who I knew was the one who booked my appointment over the phone and gave me this misinformation, sat there and said nothing. Unfortunately I went ahead and just paid it, because I didn't want to make a fuss. Clearly what I should have done was refused, because I had no idea how horrible the manager would later be about the situation. Once I got home and gave it more thought, I felt it really just wasn't right what had happened. I had been bait and switched. I believe they should've honored their word and had the integrity as an ethical business to do so. I checked their site, and not anywhere on the promotion did it specify what and was not included in a "wellness appointment" which I posted a snapshot of in this review. So today, I figured I would call to speak with the manager to try to make this right. I called in the morning around 9 am and was told the manager was out and would be back by 10 am. When I hadn't heard anything back by 2:30, I called again. I then had the not so pleasant experience of speaking with the manager Brooke. I gave her all the details of the situation, and told her I was transparent about the reason for my appointment from the beginning. She was entirely unhelpful to say the least. She had no interest in making things right. She repeated herself over and over again robotically that she couldn't give me the discount because my appointment wasn't considered a "wellness" appointment. The only solution she brought forth was to bring in another pet within a month before the promotion ended. I told her this wasn't a solution for me to bring in another pet that wasn't due for an exam to give them even more of my money. She showed absolutely no empathy or interest in making things right. Eventually she just hung up the phone on me. It was entirely unprofessional and just shows the bad business practices being used at this clinic. I am disheartened by how I was treated as a new client, and that I won't be able to go back to the vet here due to her negligent staff. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise and saved me a future headache. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats that I had intended on bringing here. After sharing the experience I had with my mom, she will also not be returning to this hospital for her pets. I do hope this review inspires the hospital to reflect on how they treat their clients when they drop the ball, and how to better train their staff. read more

Wonderful staff, amazing veterinarians . Up front costs with no pressure. They take the time to Explains everything . I highly recommend.

I have to thank Grass Valley Veterinary Clinic for such an amazing job ! This has to be one of the worst veterinary clinics in all of Nevada county. I brought my sick dog in because it had lost a lot of weight and was not eating. Immediately they concluded it was pyometra and wanted to do surgery the very next day after giving me a $900.00 vet bill for the days hospitalization. I didn't agree with their diagnosis and didn't return the next day for surgery. So they reported me to Animal control. read more

We went yesterday to put our dog down. It started well, our vet was kind and let us know we didn't have any options. The problem arose because the staff wanted to leave for lunch and let us know they were going to lunch at 12 (it was 11:30) We were literally rushed thru the process because of this. We had to ask for blankets for the dog, and we waiting for a family member to come say goodbye and the staff kept checking to see if the member had arrived and how much longer before they could start...it added a yucky element to an already hard day. It felt like a drive-thru euthanasia where within 5 minutes they were ready to put the line in and put him down. The actual vet tech and doctor were great but their front of house staff very loudly announced they wanted to go to lunch and weren't going to miss it because of us. Tacky and rushed experience for something very monumental. read more

Grass Valley Vet is the Best !!! Our dog (Charlie) was mauled by the neighbors pitbull and needed stiches for several bite wounds. The Vet was patient and caring with Charlie. I am so glad we switched to Grass Valley Vet. Used to love Mother Lode until they were bought out by VCA. They will not see long time clients in a timely manner and if you are lucky enough to get an appointment, they charge you for an emergency visit. Cannot sing the praises of GVVH, the staff, and especially Dr. C., DVM, enough!!! They all showed us the utmost care and empathy when we showed up with our last hope for emergency surgery to save our 7yo dog, Sherlock. They gave us a far more reasonable price than another local ER option, were genuinely more personable and caring to the life-and-death situation we were faced with, but ultimately made us feel like they cared more about Sherlocks survival and our struggle than they did about making a profit. We can't thank you enough, and hope EVERYONE local considers this input when deciding to use you for their fur babies!!! ~The Wolffs read more

Adjusting my review because it's beyond disturbing how negligent this vet office is . In January of this year i took my cat here twice . Once for a new patient appointment and again for a follow up. they wrote on my cat's chart that she has stage 1 dental disease and DID NOT even communicate that to me . Moving forward i took her to a new vet when i noticed changes in my cats eating habits . Took a new vet A matter of seconds to figure out what's wrong . MY CAT HAS STAGE 4 DENTAL DISEASE AND IS MISSING HALF OF HER TEETH AND WILL NEED THE REMAINING TEETH PULLED. Just WEEKS ago this vet office diagnosed that my cat is only at stage 1?!? Such a joke . This vet office is beyond negligent and lacks the knowledge necessary to properly diagnose and treat animals . This vet was more concerned with selling me some low quality by product cat food , HILLS, than actually addressing real concerns about my cats health. read more

Zero stars if I could! TERRIBLE customer service! Corporate owned, not local!!! Just found out that it was sold years ago (would have been nice to tell your clients!) After 5 years of taking both (and now just the one ) cats to this vet hospital (really because of its convenience to my house) I have been dismissed. The last time I took my cat in I asked for him to be checked for fleas . I had received flea medicine 6 weeks before this that seemed to totally not work. He was scratching and had flea dust . I was more worried about an ongoing eye problem that never seemed to resolve and was told to "keep an eye on it" and was given no flea medication . When I found fleas on my car two days later I called and asked to talk to the vet . I was told they were busy and was speaking with the office manager . I dared suggest that I get a discount on the new flea medication since the last one failed and his new diagnosis was missed completely . I was told in a very unprofessional way that "absolutely no way ". I again asked to talk to the vet (who used to own the business ) and was ignored. When I raised my voice because of my frustration at being dismissed I was hung up on! I called two days later and again asked to speak to a vet , not the office manager, I was told I would receive a call. 2 weeks later I call and ask why I have still not heard from the vet I was told that " he is not going to talk to you because of the way you spoke to the office manager "! Remember the vet hospital is the "professionals" in this story as well as the fact that I was hundreds of dollars deep in visits with zero resolution. I am disgusted with the unprofessional nature and callous disregard to their clients . My cat probably got fleas here because they don't change the towels they lay down on the tables between pets. I have seen a different vet every time I bring my cat in , no consistency and TERRIBLE customer service ! Many other great options in this area so shop around ! read more

Do not bring your animal here! I brought my cat to Grass Valley veterinary before but, when my cat was having issues breathing the staff was so rude especially Megan! She did not care about us at all. She told me they were full. I asked if she could give me any advice. She did not offer to ask the vet or anything. She just rudely told me she was not a vet. I asked her on 2 different occasions what local vet they would refer me to. She kept telling my to Drive an hour or an hour in a half away to an emergency vet. The 3rd time I asked she said she is not the other vets and therefore would not have the schedule. I told her I did not ask about their schedule I asked for a local vet that they might recommend. They did not speak to the vet or try to fit us in. I asked to talk to the manager. Another rude coworker said the office manager was gone and she was the acting manager and was just as rude as the first lady. I was in tears worrying about Scruffy. When I called Brunswick Veterinary Clinic the office staff was so nice even though my cat was not one of their patients. They dropped what they were doing to talk to the vet and even though Dr. Williams was full for the day she offered to squeeze her in. I will always be greatfull for the simple fact that she cares about your animal as if it was her own. Thank you to the staff and the Dr. for helping me when my own vet would not. This place use to be awesome. I have taken my cat here for years. I don't know if they have have a different owner or manager but now they refuse to answer the phone. They expect you you leave a message and will call you back in 48 hours or in my case close to a week. Just moved to the area and my Pit Bull/Rottweiler nearly tore her whole nail off. I washed it and took her to this vet without an appointment. Her nail wasn't bleeding but she was limping. My mini dachshund has been treated by Grass Valley Vet ever since our old-fashioned, low-priced country veterinarian retired. At first the price different was, admittedly, a steep shock; but Sadie's care has been nothing but excellent. I felt compelled to write a positive review after talking with her veterinarian, Dr. Kristy Cortright, about diagnostic pathways for Sadie's appetite loss and bloody stool. Dr. Cortright kept urging us to take an abdominal X-ray, but the cost was holding us back. Finally she said, "What if I'm holding Sadie and walking, and I sort of trip and fall onto the X-ray table, if you get my drift." I was flabbergasted (in a very good way!). I made a thank-you card for Dr. Cortright and went forward with the X-ray--which proved inconclusive. Dr. Cortright has been extremely cooperative with balancing price and priority in diagnosing and treating Sadie's health decline; she's given us trial doses of medications for all the possible causes of Sadie's illness, without forcing us into an extremely pricey ultrasound. All of this awesomeness prompted me to pause and reflect on how professional, friendly, compassionate, and competent everyone is at GV Vet. When I once needed to show photo ID to pick up a controlled substance, the technician accepted the gender incongruence smoothly. It is always relieving to be treated with dignity and equality as a transgender person. And finally, if you weren't already convinced to give the place a visit, I hope you will at least stop by to meet their affectionate 3-legged resident cat, Pogo. read more

I came to Grass Valley Veterinary Hospital today for a geriatric exam for my sweet 7 yr old lab/pit mix who gave us a scare with some breathing issues this week. We recently moved back to Grass Valley and were recommended to Dr. Dekker by a family member. He is awesome! Very down to earth, he came in and greeted my dog and gave my dog time to greet him and get comfortable. He listened to everything I had to tell him about what has been going on with my dog and came up with very thorough (but fairly priced!) diagnostic tests for my guy. I felt very at ease in the office and it was obvious that Dr. Dekker really cares about the animal (which has often not been the case at other vets I've been to). I will definitely continue to go to Grass Valley Vet Hospital with my pets. read more
