My favorite place to buy all things fly fishing in Anchorage. The owner (Dennis) knows pretty much everything about fly fishing and Alaska. He also has a black lab that always wags his tail when you walk into the shop. Sage, Loomis? Get 'em. Fancy reels that cost more than the GDP of Bolivia? Yep, got them too. Hand tied flies that will catch lots of big trout and salmon in Alaska waters? Yep, got a nice big collection of them. The Village Inn is right next door if you are hungry. Mike is the most professional and friendly retailer I have ever purchased from. As a customer he makes you feel welcome whether you are a veteran angler and two hand caster or a novice and new comer to the sport. This is no "big box" store. This is a local family owned and ran business with small town charm. This is the "Cheers" of local fly shops. Mike (Mossy) is a very knowledgable and helpful guy. He has created a type of business I feared was lost in our fast paced world. One where dad's tie fly's with their sons at the tie-in, where men tell weekend fish stories over coffee, and where everyone is greeted and welcomed like family. As a female fisherman, I especially am pleased with Mike's efforts for Casting for Recovery. I feel it really shows how much he believes that everyone is welcome in this family sport. Plus the tie-in he sponsors every year for this event is a great place to meet new folks. You are always guaranteed a greeting, good products and prices, and any advice you need.
