I came in here today to get some outdoor accessories as well as some ideas on fishing gear for the upcoming season. I always enjoy coming in here especially when browsing. There is a nice seating area by the entrance complete with armchairs and a large fireplace with a rug. In the very back, there is a huge aquarium with a walk-through tunnel that reminds me of a smaller version of the aquariums I've been to in SeaWorld down in San Diego and Ft. Fisher down in Wilmington, NC right next to the Atlantic Ocean. This is a nice addition for customers to spend their time browsing in the store. There is also an impressive display of stuffed and mounted animals lined up around the ceiling of the store.
The variety of items they sell here are plenty from camping gear and hunting rifles to winter clothing and fishing poles. On a previous visit a couple of months back, I found some great deals on cold weather socks by Carhartt as well as a couple of fleece blankets with wildlife designs that were perfect when the weather was still 10 or 20 degrees. Today, I found some good deals on several fishing poles and fishing gear with a storewide Spring sale discount. I also couldn't help but make a couple of impulse purchases on bacon jerky. These are a lot tastier and more tender than your regular beef jerky. I picked two flavors:the maple syrup and the smoked hickory.
As in most of my reviews, the highlight of this visit always has to do with food and it was time for lunch. They have a nice little café with a country rustic design along with several tables and chairs as well as shelves full of touristy items reminiscent of the Cracker Barrel Restaurants down in the Lower 48 filled with locally made jams, jellies, chocolates, pancake mixes, soup mixes, smoked salmon, and home-made style fudge. The deli has a full menu of sandwiches, soups, salads, nachos, ice cream, and wild game. The wild game menu caught my attention. They had sandwich selections of bison, elk, and wild boar! I ordered the wild game club sandwich which was a choice of two wild game meats on your choice of sourdough, rye, white or whole wheat along with mayo, lettuce, onion, and your choice of cheese.
I decided to go with bison and wild boar on sourdough bread with cheddar cheese and a side salad with blue cheese. The sandwich was absolutely phenomenal. The wild boar reminded me so much of pork roast and had the tenderness of a Christmas ham. The bison was also delicious without being too gamey. Bison is definitely the type of meat that would be ideal for backyard BBQ cheeseburgers. The salad was pre-made in a plastic container, but the ingredients were fresh and made even better with a packet of Ken's Blue Cheese Dressing. The salad and the drink came along with the sandwich at an awesome deal for $9.99. Overall, my purchases came to just $41.00 with the storewide sale.
This was one of the more fun and unconventional shopping experiences I've had. You never know what you can come across in terms of interesting items and hidden sales if you look hard enough. It is always a shopping adventure in itself whenever I come in here. read more
