The "nice customer support person" told me I could go to Alaska to get it? WOW is all I have to say. I get that it was a clearance sale product, but if you advertise it, allow customer to purchase it, pay for it, you expect it to be shipped!!! read more

This store is the worst. I ordered a gun. They did not have it ready to pick up when advertised, then when I finally did get there to pick it up they said they had cancelled my order and refunded me without notice. I also never saw a refund. Wasted my time and I still haven't gotten my money back. AVOID. Full story follows... Ordered a gun on August 17th. I live 2.5 hours' drive away from the store. Estimated pickup was August 25. I had a trip to Anchorage planned for early September so it seemed like that was fine. August 25th came and went with no update. On the 28th I contacted customer support and they said the gun had arrived but wasn't ready to be picked up yet. My trip to Anchorage came and went. While there I stopped by the store but they said I couldn't pick it up yet... OK... Fine. I don't know when I'll be back to Anchorage, but whatever. Finally I got a notice on September 4th (11 days later than advertised) that my gun was ready for pickup. Well now I couldn't get to Anchorage for a bit. Should be fine right? They delayed me so they should be able to handle a delay from my end. I can't make it to Anchorage on the regular. I went to Anchorage today October 4th, to finally get my gun. I had multiple emails (the last from September 29th) saying my gun was ready for pickup. I go into the store and they couldn't find it. Then they told me that the order had automatically been cancelled because I didn't pick it up in time. They said I should have been automatically refunded. I hadn't. I also hadn't received any notice about this. I got a little heated and they threatened to kick me out of the store. Fine. I calmed down. I asked if the gun was there today. They said it was. I asked if I could buy it at the same price that I ordered it for (I ordered it on sale). They said they could not honor that. I walked out. I just got home from Anchorage and I double-checked my credit card and I still have not received a refund. They will be getting a charge-back from me as they have essentially ROBBED me at this point beyond wasting my time and being completely unhelpful in any way whatsoever. THIS STORE HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED AND I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN. read more

That may fly fish with the boujee fancy pants that just want to sit at their campsite but I'm trying to do some things. We don't get to Sportsman's Warehouse all that often, since we do get to south Anchorage very often, but when we do, it's generally a pleasant experience. Most recently, we went in looking for a very specific item, which with it being a food preservation item, we headed straight over to the food equipment... up and down the aisles, slicers, grills, smokers and such, no freeze dryers to be found; however, the app says there are a few in stock. We spoke to a helpful gentleman and he walked us right over to them... oddly in the middle of the store, away from all things food/preserving. Weird placement. He was quick to get someone to bring a pallet jack to grab it and take it to the back loading dock and the cashier easily and quickly took care of us based on me pulling the item up in the app. Their price was exactly that of the manufacturer as well, without extra shipping costs, which is awesome! A few young men loaded it into our vehicle and we were on our way! They also offer a 5% Veteran discount, which is always appreciated! read more

Needed some leaders and hooks for a fishing trip. Picked up some a necessary Fly box and fly fishing tools of the trade. Fishing in Cancun and then jumping to Belize. Primarily here getting items for a couple surf rods I'm bringing for tarpon and maybe shark. Pulled out my list of flies and bought some extra Crazy Charlie shrimp presentations and a few set of Chartreuse poppers for Barracuda. Who knows what we'll be around us but going for Bonefish, Permit, Barracuda, Tarpon and Shark. Great selections and they are starting to get more Orvis products. The only disappointment was that their lead weights were bare and pretty much stripped, other than that, a great shop with helpful staff. Saw some compound bow targets ... eh, I'll leave that for another time though. read more

Ladies, if you are interested in carrying 'heat' on the trail this winter to protect you from those two legged pests, visit Sportsman's Warehouse on Spenard. The customer service is excellent. Highly informative, not rushed, and best of all, women are treated as intelligent, responsible customers ( unlike other places I shopped). Furthermore, there is a variety of pistols from which to choose and reasonable prices. I was offered a 24 'hold' on the pistol that most interested me. This was nice as it allows one to shop around, or do some google research. I plan to return tomorrow and purchase that Smith and Wesson. read more

I had a pretty pleasant gun buying experience here. The salesman wasn't as aggressive or necessarily as knowledgeable as some of the previous salespeople I interacted with in other stores throughout the city. But he was helpful. The inventory is decent. They may not be able to compete with the size or scope of a Cabela's or a Bass Pro but they may have what you're looking for since I would assume most people hit the latter two stores first. My purchase is a case in point. I had a specific gun in mind, which was sold out in the big box retailers but not here. The prices are reasonable. There's a noticeable markup from online prices but not by much. One has to expect everything in Alaska to cost more than the lower 48. 5% discount for law enforcement. read more

Got a Pre Black Friday Sale ad in my email. Shopped it and my wife purchased a gun that said was in stock at the Anchorage store available for pickup that day. She paid with credit card online. Got an email that said it was ready for pickup. She went to the gun counter and manager Ian Tilman treated her like a moron. 1st told her those guns were for their black friday sale and she would have to wait for one to get shipped in. She showed him her email saying it was ready for pickup and we live over an hour away. He said online gun purchases have to have a gift card issued and she would have to wait a day or two. When she explained she paid with a credit card, got and email saying it was ready, they have it in stock, why does she have to come back days later. He then got real rude and said, let me explain it so you will understand. After he left for the day we seen another person get a gift card issued for an online purchased and he walked away with his gun. We ended up saying heck with it and bought the gun again with a credit card so we wouldnt have to drive an hour each way back to anchorage and now we have to deal with getting our online gun purchase credited back. Somehow I feel this manager has the power to get the gift cards issued, he just dint want to help my wife. If you're looking for a great customer service experience, then Sportsman's Warehouse in Anchorage, Alaska is not the place to shop. From the moment I walked in you could tell the employees were not happy to be there and to help customers. They had a disinterested and apathetic attitude that was only further confirmed by my interaction with the associates in the footwear department. I went to the customer service counter to get assistance with an exchange and the associate who was sent over acted like she hated her job and customers. Not only did she seem uninterested in helping me, but she also didn't provide any meaningful assistance. I was disappointed and went back to the customer service counter to get my money back, only to be met with a customer service representative who made light of my experience and showed no concern for my dissatisfaction. It's a shame that Sportsman's Warehouse doesn't value customer service, as that's one of the most important aspects of any business. If you're looking for a great customer service experience, then you're better off spending your money somewhere else. I find it odd that the females boots are more expensive than the males, but is it because we women shop more? I was irked but still paid the $125 for a pair of Kamiks. I was looking for an AR-15 platform rifle and I've been hearing about Sportsman's Warehouse so I finally checked it out. First impression, you can tell it's not a typical Basspro or Cabelas. They had big game heads on display and wasn't sure if they're remodeling or closing. The shelves were a bit bare, but then again it felt like a "going out of business" sale. I headed for the gun area and was quite surprised with the selections, pretty darn good: hand guns, shot guns, rifles, I think I even saw a .50 cal. (maybe). A gentleman with a long beard approached me and he was really nice and knowledgeable. I asked to see a Ruger AR-556, Windham .223/556, and Buschmaster. The man was telling me how he owns all three and explained how it shoots, pros and cons - really knowledgeable! They also have gun safes. I left the store contemplating on either a Ruger or a Windham. On my way out, I saw decently priced kayaks, hunting gears, fishing stuff, AND two or three types of cowboy boots---that I'm definitely buying soon. I really enjoyed browsing this place and I will come back to get my boots, rifle, and ammo. read more

I had return an Ariat pullover that was not used and was charged $79.95. They had a makeshift tag when I bought, I'm sure because had been returned before with no tag is my guess. For some reason the girl that rang up my original order selected "footwear" for I'm assuming a manual entry due to their lack of a more appropriate tag. When I went to return, the unhelpful sales associate decided to just pick another item off my receipt as the return item which was less than what I paid for that item. Note to all that if they have a tag that does not identify the actual item make sure you have them acknowledge on the tag before you leave the store and make note on your receipt accordingly. I didn't buy footwear at all in this purchase. I won't be shopping here ever again, but thought I would share this as they have ALOT of makeshift tags on items in their store. read more

If they don't have it or can't get it for you they don't make it. This place has the right tools and the right people with the knowledge to help you with any outdoor experience. On my last trip I finally discovered the upstairs section with all of the tents, canoes, and kayaks. I never knew they made tents to be a shelter for an out house. I get so excited for salmon season every time I walk in to this place. The spring is a great time to go and get the clearance prices on things like boots and ice fishing tents. All the new stuff for summer is coming in and the deals are happening. I love the "bragging" board and the fishing updates at the front door. They sell fishing and hunting licenses as well. This place is destined to be the next Covid-19 casualty. Went to buy a set of Lodge cast iron camp cookware and there were none (that's right zero) cashiers. I got in line behind approximately 10-12 other people waiting to check out at the customer service returns area. After about 15 minutes with a person needing to exchange something. There were probably 30 people in line. I watched as 4 people gave up and left. I was #5 to leave and who knows how many left after me. If you can't collect people's money, why not just shut the doors now. Needless to say Cabelas wins another round against the place. read more

Was a bit surprised there were very few workers (if any) offering advice or help -- guess it's not an Alaska thing. All in all the service was great really friendly folks at fishing hunting and gun counter. Only negative thing I'd say is at archery the guy seemed to only really care about bragging about himself and his accomplishments. While treating a fellow archer like they didn't know what they were doing and openly stated in a joking manner "I will kick you" if this bow comes back to me in a broken manner. Honestly I don't think that's anywhere near a joke especially being a military veteran. As well as not truly paying attention to his work on a bow since the night I took my bow home I found the cables chafing which would have ended in a very bad and expensive repair. Since he disassembled the cable guide and put it back together which ultimately caused the bow cables to chafe together then somewhere in the near future to break. read more

Sale ad for a Beretta ARX 160 22 LR broke on 6-6-14. I went in the morning of 6-7. They were out and claimed they only received 4 or 5. They told me to check back, hoping to have more before the sale ended. No rain check was offered. I called on 6-13. Still out of stock. Asking for a rain check, I was told I'd have to speak with a manager. After holding for 5 minutes, a manager picked up. Someone else picked up in between, asked if he could help, then said yes, you need to speak to a manager. When the manager picked up, I explained the situation. He said no rain checks as they didn't know when they'd get them in again. One of the associates let slip that they had already written some rain checks, but it had to go through a manager. There are things I like about Sportsman Warehouse. They do have some cool stuff, dont' get me wrong. But the store is aging and their prices are high, which is a bad combo. The first time I visited the store, I was amused by the sheer volume of stuffed animals on dispaly. It's pretty impressive. But the store is dwarfed by the new Cabelas, and I think Sportsman Warehouse may be in trouble. What pissed me off in particular about SW is the service I didn't get at the gun counter. I went in looking for so direction. The salesman didn't give me much time, although he did offer a few suggestions on where I can get more info, but he didn't really give me much actual info. He also never once offered to let me see or hold a gun, which was a huge mistake. They also had no ammo, which is a real problem these days. There's no chance that I'll ever buy a gun from this place. The have a small selection and crappy customer service. So boo, hiss! I won't be buying from you, Sportsman Warehouse! read more

I get excited walking into the SW. I start thinking of what could make my outdoor adventures more comfortable, more active...and think of new pastimes I could invest in. Those kayaks are always taunting me! They have a fantastic selection of poles and reels, plus their customer service has always been very kind and helpful. SW also has the distinction of making me feel like I can afford to indulge in things, whereas REI has always given me a snobbish impression. Only thing I would suggest: when it's fishing season, I'd like them to update their 'status' boards on the hotspots a little more accurately. My fiancé and I were in to pick up gifts for my Groomsmen. I wanted to hand pick them all a nice knife that suits what it is that they do. A couple hunters, A commercial fisherman, EMT and Pilots in my crew. The gentleman at the counter Trevor was fantastic he spent at least an hour with us going over everything I could possibly want and reaching in and out of the counter for the same thing a few times. I was undecided if I would walk away with a knife for me a well, I was eyeballing a CRKT Homefront. After spending all this time with us closing time rolled around and we had finally got everything we needed picked out. I figured the Homefront was getting phased out and Trevor was so knowledgeable and patient with us I'd snag the knife. Lucky for me and my fiancé this was only the start of the shine of how good the team at Sportsman's was. After checking out and swapping a few jokes with the cashier, my fiancé decided to use the restroom before we drove home. Sportsman's had locked up and were pretty much waiting for us to leave. The manager or lead came up to me and asked if we knew the man standing outside in the rain, never seen this man before in my life but apparently he said he knew me and my fiancé. Considering we moved here less then a year ago our friends and people we know is still limited. So instantly we assume the worst, my fiancé mentions he did more then a few laps around us at the knife counter but thought nothing of it, it is not uncommon for me and her to make a few laps around the store looking at everything. The Team offered to walk us out and as soon as we started towards the door with three of the Team members this man lost all interest in us. They walked us all the way to the car and ensured we left safely. There was a little bit of Parking lot maneuvering with this guy who did stop right behind our car momentarily before waiting to see what direction we were going to leave, but the Team getting us to the car made all the difference in the world if that situation were to have turned to the worst. Sportsman's Warehouse team went above and beyond not only inside the store but outside of it as well. I don't think we will be shopping anywhere else from now on. read more

I went to Sportsman's in hopes of getting the basics on buying a shotgun for bear and home protection, plus the random invite on a bird trip. Joe, in firearms, was knowledgeable and helpful. He answered all of my amateurish questions and showed me all the options - Remingtons, Mossbergs and Weatherbys. If only Sportsman's was a better deal..I got the same Remington 870 Express for $60 less at Sports Authority. What the lack in discounts, they do make up in selection because Sportsman's has everything. I will buy other stuff here for the service. read more

Customer service was degrading and belittling, they are untrained in the departments they work in, and they treat customers like tourists that know nothing (I'm a resident with over 15 years of experience in fishing and hunting). I will never go to another sportsman's warehouse again. Save yourself the headache and go to Cabelas instead. Cabelas has better prices on most everything and if your looking for firearms, just save yourself the time and money and go to Granny's guns or Alaska ammo (better prices by at least $25-50). As a NRA and 2nd amendment supporter, I would fully recommend against any firearm purchase from this establishment. The individual who assisted me in picking out my firearm was very demeaning, borderline racists and directly discriminating concerning my choice of outfit (I wear baggy jeans not sagging, large tshirt leather jacket etc, so he was making gangster remarks disparagingly so). I went ahead and went through about two hours of this until finding a firearm I was willing to settle for, more just to end the bad shopping experience this man presented. I'm an ex Airborne Ranger, grew up in the country on a farm hunting, I'm pretty sure my firearms experience tops their employee's, yet he treated me like I was some young thug wanna be shopping in an adult store.... I'm 33... Then to top it off, I was delayed on the background check, which happens to alot of people but here is the condemning part, the reason why to NEVER shop at this place again. Per the law, on the FBI website even, it states if the delay is longer than three days the firearm can be released to the purchaser. This is due to them having no right to prevent me from seeking means to protect myself without just cause. I haven't even had a speeding ticket in over a decade, much less anything similar. Per the manager at Sportsman's Warehouse, they will never release it until they hear back on the background check. I stopped calling after five other stores in Anchorage immediately stated not only that they will release it if it's delayed more than three days, but they were aghast that Sportsman's Warehouse wouldn't. BOTTOM LINE, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND VIOLATORS OF THE 2ND AMENDMENT!! read more
