Absolutely great service. I recently went in to Wild West looking for a mess of parts I thought I'd probbaly have to order for a project lever action Ive neglected to get around to. I opened the case and explained what I needed, and before I had time to even browse the counter, they had found all the parts and reassembled everything ready to go. They originally quoted me 100 bucks (which seemed fair), but then dropped it to 40$ in the end. The customer service was just ok and they talked a bit with my man about hunting and shooting stuff. The workers seemed arrogant but eager to sell. I was in town visiting some friends and had seen the show on TV. My buddy and I browsed through the guns and checked out what they had to offer. The shop looks bigger on TV but that's always the case with camera angles. Jim was behind the counter and answered any questions we had. He knew we were just "tire kickers" so he was polite without putting a hard press on a sale. He offered to sign a hat I was buying. I'm not an autograph guy but if he offered, sure. Just then one of the guys came out of the shop. Jim told us he was a veteran who had just started. He handed my hat to the guy and asked him to sign it as well. As we drove off I was a little confused at first. The more I thought about it the more I got a kick out of it. I didn't care if Jim signed it, so it didn't matter the "new guy" signed it either. But, now the four of us have a fairly odd story and I have a one of a kind signed hat! Well played Mr West! read more

I purchased a WWG Happy Tune Kit 15 months ago for my Marlin lever action and the Bear Proof Ejector failed after about 20 rounds. I returned the ejector to WWG and despite numerous emails and a telephone call with the 'boss' nothing has happened. I would not like to stake my life on their products or their after sales service. read more

I bought an Alaskan guide gun from these guys. While talking with them on the phone, I worried about the cost of importing into Canada, as I'd never done that before. The guy told me "don't worry about it - we'll look after it". Made me think they had some connection that could do it cheap. No. Found out later it was going to cost $800.00, twice the base cost of the gun - and I had already paid them so I couldn't back out. They also promised that all of the issues with the Remington made gun would be fixed and tested before any of the upgrades were done. That didn't happen either. Bore is drilled crooked. Front sight about 3 degrees off vertical. Barrel doesn't align with magazine. Upon receiving the gun most of the upgrades I paid an extra $1400.00 for were not done. Parts were falling off the gun when it arrived - they didn't even try to hide that they were ripping me off. Numerous complaints to Jim West and all he did was laugh at me. These people are evil. I am forced to give then a star to post. read more

My husband and I went here, we wanted to check out some prices since we frequently buy guns and love to expand our collection. The staff was rude and the guns were WAY overpriced! We asked to see a Sig 226 9mm and the dude behind the counter just ignored us since one of his friends walked in. a few minutes later he came over and pulled the pistol out of the case without so much as a glance in our direction. I went to these guys because I didn't know anyone else in town. A huge mistake, these guys are arrogant and could apparently care less about helping. I took in a "High Standard" 22 auto pistol that I couldn't seat the magazine without forcing it. The guy took it and in less than a minute returned it indicating he didn't think he could fix it and didn't want to waste his time on it. Pretty much called it a piece of junk. I will never set foot in Wild West Guns again. BTW I went to Precision Arms and Vince fixed the gun in less than 10min for $20. So much for the EXPERTS at Wild West. read more

Some of the finest gunsmithing in Alaska! (if not THE finest!) I've been a customer for over 30 years now and am treated like old time Alaskans have always treated one another, always offered a seat around the fire and a share of whatever food is being consumed at the time. They always have something or other on sale for a great price, and their regular prices are competitive with the big box stores, plus they can fix your guns, or better yet, customize them! I've had 3 different pistols customized by them, 3 different rifles customized, and purchased half a dozen other assorted rifles and pistols. I don't regret a dime of the money I've spent with them over the years. These guys, Boondocks, and Alaska Tactical always get first shot at my guns and ammo needs, 3 finer shops, 3 finer owners, don't exist anywhere else. read more

I have made several purchases from Wild West at their Anchorage location before and after December 2012. The experience has been generally mixed all around, but throw in the post-Dec 2012 craziness at firearms dealers and it gets a bit much to digest sometimes; though I do keep going back. When you get helped at Wild West, they generally are very helpful, prices fair, and all around good. The bad, and the reason they only get 3 stars, is that when I go there they are generally busy enough (even if it is them just chatting people people in the store) that I end up waiting patiently (sometimes up to 30 minutes) just to get helped. Then when I get helped unless they have it immediately in the front counter it will likely result in another 30+ minute wait. For example I have now been in there multiple times looking for a particular firearm, when I get asked what I want they tell me if they think they have one or not. If they think they have one in the back it seems like them actually checking in the back puts you in the back of the queue again to be helped as they then move on and don't tell you its going to be another 30 minutes or almost act like they have blown you off. If you are patient and aren't too bad of a pain they will eventually go and check and get you out the door with what you came for to the store. The phone is also very difficult to get service. Unfortunately though multiple times when I came to make a purchase I encounter the same routine and the purchase doesn't happen. If they could address this front counter issue, I would give them a much higher rating. read more

Last year I went to wild west to purchase one of there AR 15. I ask a guy named ken if there was a military discount. He said yes for active duty. I just returned from Afghanistan with the ALASKA ARMY GUARD and still was on orders.(which is active duty orders) I told him this and he said the guard don't count. He was acting like Rick James tending bar at Studio 54 - shouting, boasting, telling dumb jokes, acting like goofball. Selection of handguns was decent. Very few holsters. Perception IS reality.. that's why they have BAD reviews! I prefer supporting local shops but I'm not going to grab my boot laces to do it. Ken is an arrogant fool at best! Great Ammo prices??? He is charging $90 dollars for a box of .338 Barnes TSX ammo that I can get at sportsmen's warehouse for $50. YES the same exact box only $40 cheaper. His "sale" price is significantly higher than Sportsmen's regular price, (Mod 70 Extreme Weather .338). PLUS Sportsmen's gives Military AND Veteran Discounts! For the pleasure of paying more, and getting insulted, you get....??? A squatty, d-bag shop owner who is as rude as he is unintelligent. I called them out on the ammo price and Ken tried run a line of BS which I promptly squashed, seems he can only dish it out but runs like a scared rabbit if you push back on his crap! I would rather take my chances with a sharp stick in bear country then give this shop another penny. If you shop with Ken more than once or gave him FIVE stars, the old saying "a fool and his money are easily parted" are words you must live by!! You can read by their reviews and laugh yourselves to sleep! But the good news is, the other shops in town are not like them, the value and respect their customers! I gave them a chance to rectify the issue, Ken came back with a $20 store credit which I told him promptly to stuff up his back side! Over charged me $80 on two boxes of ammo, and the best he could do was $20 store credit to buy more of his overpriced crap! NO thanks! Wild West was recommended to me by one of their best customers who brought me there, and I was still treated like a nuisance. Your experience may be different... I spent a couple grand there and regret it. Ken is neither "fair", respectful, or appreciative, his knowledge is questionable! As for "world class bear gun customization"... a well-placed shot from an off the shelf side arm with factory ammo has done just fine for meand many others! I would not trust Ken any further then I could toss him much less with customizing a gun for me. read more

I also have spent Thousands at WWG, but after my last purchase I Will not be back, Reason being horrible customer service, Ken must bring in a lot of money for Jim to keep him around, I ordered a custom rifle from Ken,I asked if the rifle could hold 5 rounds and Ken said "If I can't get it done with 4 rounds I deserve to Die"(estimated up to 3 months wait) I gave him all the details. He said if I E-mailed him he would send me a picture of their full leanght rail, I sent it with all details of order just to be sure. No reply and after 6 days Ken calls to say my rifle was done. not only was rifle not as I ordered, the front sight was damaged and the sling stud hole was drilled too deep causing the swivel to damage the stock. After more than a month of calling, begging, and finally yelling "send me my rifle NOW. Jim finally got involved and after a few weeks dealing with him he finally sent out my rifle with a butt stock than doesn't come close to matching the fore stock. Jim also sent a set of his ghost ring sights That I originally orderd but cancelled after all the stress associated with dealing with them. After watching The Show It is clear to me why I had such difficulty with Jim. The rifles have been working as expected. When you spend over 1500 on a rifle the customer service should be considerable better. read more

Went there and One sales guy had great costumer relations, took care of me trying to ensure future business, went in to pick up my firearm they worked on and the other front desk guy Joe undid everything that had been done to keep my business and bring in new business and racked on a lot more money to the ticket .... Thanks To the guy who initially took care of me your a standup guy but your coworkers are chodes and I don't feel if I can do business there anymore ... Ken is better off selling used cars in New york City. His arrogance and fake, boisterous attitide is unfounded for he knows very little about firearms and clearly hides behind the fact he is on TV. Simply being on a series doesnt make you a subject matter expert. I have been to the shop twice with the intent of purchasing a gbl and quickly realized that their loyalty to customers is non existent. I was disgusted and executed an about face both times. There is no concept of time management or customer service at this establishment. If you are considering a purchase from wwg my honest opinion is that you go elsewhere. Their work is shoddy with attitudes that match. Their prices are also marked up way too high. I have been active duty military for over 13 years and stationed in georgia for a good stent of my career. Compared to smiths and dealers down south who genuinely care and attend to their customers needs, these guys are a joke. When your only bragging right is a take down marlin you really need to start assessing your worth as a reputable business. Humility, respect, integrity, and sincerity are not at the core of wwg. I've been into the store 3 times now. Each time I am browsing around and if the sales people are not busy with another customer I get asked if I need any help and if they are with another customer I get acknowledged and asked when they come free. Have not had any problems asking questions and getting straight on answers. The second time in seemed a bit better than the first and the third time in (day after the second) was very good. I was happy with the pricing that I got for what I purchased. Seems like they may have listened to what people are saying and attempting to correct the problems. (1st time mid March, 2016, 2 and 3 middle of June 2016) My only complaint, (and it really isn't a complaint because I understand the limits of stocking items in retail) is that it would be nice of they carried more accessories like magazines for the firearms they carry. But that is a minor complaint for me. read more

Piss poor customer service!!! Came in this morning at 10:37 to get work done on my John Ross custom 500S&W. Camera Crew was scurrying around getting set up. Ken had his face planted in his cell phone and after making eye contact with me proceeded to completely ignore my existence. I guess checking his Show Ratings is more important than customer service. I have been out of state for 13 years and p...rior to leaving have bought 6 Custom guns from WWG ($20,000), quite a few other guns ($who knows), and completely outfitted an 1895 Marlin with WWG accessories ($several hundred). I helped build WWG before there ever was a TV Show or a Ken in the shop. My loyalty is rewarded with being ignored when I come in to spend more money. What the hell has happened Jim? Don't worry...I will be sure to pass my experience with the New WWG to everyone and anyone who will listen or who should ask for recommendations for a gunsmith. WWG is probably too busy with shooting scenes to bother with getting a gun fixed before the next season anyway. Last I checked it was gonna take over a year to get my 1895 converted to a Copilot. I guess with that much new business...who cares about a past customer. This morning all I needed was a dovetail front sight changed out... maybe a 10 minute job. read more
