I was amazed today when Cabela's in Anchorage had a special sale and none of the employee's had a clue of what was going on. I was one of about 10 people that were interested in a boot that was on sale. There were no sign of this sale. After asking about 6 people where the boots were the excuse we got was that's not my department one found 3 pairs of boots that were the right ones.. I was disappointed with the store. One lady named Ginnette waited on me and tried to find the right boot. They ended up selling me a different pair for the sale price. It surprised me that the employees were not told more about the sale. Also there was only a few pair of the boots on sale... The store itself is nice and I had planned to start shopping there more often. I loved going to Cabela's in the lower 48. I went in to purchase some ammo but they were out of every size except boxes of 20 rounds. After finally finding a customer service rep, he explained to me that was all they had. I asked when the next shipment would be in and he stated they never know when it's coming. Half joking, I said, "so ammo just shows up randomly?" He replied that it shows up when it shows up. Seriously? How do you do business when you don't know if anything is going to show up and when? This is the second time I've gone there looking for something that I figured they'd have and came out empty-handed. Went over to Sportsman's Warehouse, found what I was looking for, AND was able to find someone help me find what I needed within a minute or two. Guess where I'll be stopping first! read more

Wonderful staff in the archery department. Very knowledgable. They take the time to teach and make sure you have what you need. I wasted so much money and time because I made the mistake of starting out at Sportsmans to get my first hunting bow set up. I have made countless trips to Cabela as I keep finding more mistakes sportsmans made, and have had literally every part of my bow replaced by Cabela. The customer service here is absolutely awful. I can't believe they still stay in business.

They clearly have a stealing problem. I was in Anchorage for a day because i has a VA appointment. I walked in with my backpack without a second thought because I'm from a smaller town in Alaska and they followed me around like I already had stolen something. I couldn't even shop in peace so I left and called my Uber outside. While I was outside three of them gathered at the entrance inside and all waved at me sarcastically through the glass. I'm recently new to fly fishing and am super impressed with Jerry in the fishing department. He is very knowledgable and is super nice and approachable. I went to bass pro shops and wasn't very happy with the customer service as a newbie so I went back to cabela's and Jerry was there and remembered me. Okay, so this place is run super terribly bad. I've bought a minimum of 6 firearms since I have been in Alaska. In every case my experience was good with the exception of my purchase at Cabelas. The people that work the gun counter and NICS are all incompetent with no exceptions. I don't get the appeal of Cabelas, or the need for one. I've gone here a few times and I can never find what I need, or even an associate to help me. The last time I went I was looking to replace my old $20 archery set that's managed to last 10+ years. I came into Cabela's and tested a few after searching around online. I left without a bow to look up some reviews and other options. When I came back, all of the brand I wanted was gone. I tracked down asked an associate and they said they've never carried that brand and told me to check REI, they said they always send people to REI and they always find what they need there. I'm not sure which is more impressive; customers finding bows at REI when they don't carry them, or the fact the bow I found at Cabelas is nonexistent. read more

You want any rifle but what they stock, go elsewhere. Left handed- forget it, special order lookup is lip service. Let me explain. I put in a special order request for a left handed rifle I'd already asked around two other places in town and looked it up on the net. A Savage FLCSS in 7mm-08. MSRP is $929, top actual price in town elsewhere, even when they had to special order, $850. $800 for a 7mm mag in stock that was currently on sale for $700. And the rifle was regularly in the $725-750 retail in the lower 48 on the net so the retail was high at $800. Cabelas "search" meant they looked to see if that was a normal stock firearm for Cabela's, if not go with MSRP plus $50 shipping. $979 because they didn't want to actually do ANY research. Yep, $129 above ANYONE else. When I said no thank you I got my chain yanked about how I am left-handed and I should expect it to cost more. At 45 years old I know what to expect, this was a B.S. cop out I've heard way too long, especially when I had done my own research that proved her so wrong it was insulting. Tamara just lost a sale of a rifle plus Cabela's is now the last place I go for stuff with Sportsmans and others around town. First off, i have been a Cabela customer for over 20 years, I moved here 2 years ago from idaho. My husband and i went in on the 20th of august 2014 and he found some Merrells he really liked but they didn't have the brown in stock, so the salesman in the shoe department suggested he buy online and ship to store and stated the boots will be in with in the week . So a week later i went up to the store to see if they were in, the Customer service person, who's name was Linda stated they were not in and wanted to know why i would think they would be there with in a week, i stated the shoe department sales man stated it.. she told me she was sorry but the shoe department guy was wrong and should NEVER have stated that,because it all gets loaded on a barge and is then shipped up, she stated all she could do is tell me its on its way and it should be here some time.. so i went back Sept. 4th to check again and yes it was Linda helping me again, and i asked if they were in yet and she looked in the back with my sales slip and came back empty she looked on the computer and stated they were on there way, i told her that she told me that on the 27th and she got on the defensive and stated, are you sure you talked to me because i would never have said that... sigh Don't pass the buck your in customer service and your not servicing me right... dont tell people there on there way and then get all defensive when the customer points it out... If you need an item and you cant wait i highly recommend you buy it online or in the sore but do NOT have it shipped to the store, you will save yourself a lot of grievance, you may have to pay for shipping but you will get it when its suppose to arrive instead of having customer service tell you its on its way and become rude.. On a side note, maybe stating the obvious to a customer and let them know up front how long it will take to get an item is better then lying to them. Had we known it would take this long we would have shipped it to our address since we would have gotten them with in the week LOL. Super professional and knowledgeable. Love the fact that they're not impatient answering a bunch of "new to Alaska" fishing questions. Talked to the manager unknowingly for about 20 minutes and never knew it. Great dude his name is Kevin. Spent 40 minutes talking to another employee (Sarah) who was also extremely helpful. Amazing store!!! Everyone who works there should get a raise!! Excellent costumer service! The manager was even helping and walking the floor and making sure I was taken care of, which I was :) the deli was small but tasty food. The fudge was so good! I was surprised it was made there and they didn't ship it up there. I love the taxidermy in the store and the fish tank. Beautiful and lots of space. Unlike bass pro which is so cramped in space. I went to this store today to purchase some arrows for my compound bow. I needed some advice on what to buy. It was difficult to locate a staff member, and when we finally located two separately after 5 minutes, neither could help us. Both radioed for other employees to assist us. After waiting another 15 minutes, no one arrived. One employee informed us that the archery staff liked to "hang out in the back of the warehouse." Disgusted with the lack of service, we left. Had a bad experience at Cabelas today on my lunch break. I went in just to kill a little time and pay my Cabela's card bill. As I was walking around I noticed they had a 3000 W generator on sale markdown from 499 to 279. It seemed like an impossible mark down to me so I crawled around looking at the barcodes to see if I can figure out if the sale flyer that was on top of the generators matched the barcode I did so for about 15 or 20 minutes and couldn't find anything that matched. I went ahead and took a picture of the two generators and the sale banner that was sitting on top just so the clerk would have photo evidence as it seemed like it was too good of a deal to be true. So I went and got a buggy and loaded the generator up and went to customer service. They rung the generator up and what do you know $749, The clerk called her manager over, the me and the manager walked over to the generators it where he told me that the customer must have put it in the wrong place when they were purchasing another generator and that he wouldn't give it to me for that price. I then asked for his manager because he was treating me like I put the sign up there Ike i was trying to get a better deal. So his other manager came over and treated me like I was a thief or something he was talking down to me and he asked what I wanted. First thing I said was well I'm sure you guys have a procedure for this as you're acting like it happens all the time so I'm assuming you might offer me a little mark down and he said no. I then told him that I would like to file a complaint because I felt like they treated me like I was a thief like I was trying to do this on purpose. He replied I don't care about your complaint. This really bugs me because I've been in their store before and I found a cargo basket that was in the wrong place and the manager came over and gave me a discount for the mistake, and said it was their policy to do so. Kevin and Corey were very unprofessional and I'm hoping they were just having a bad day, and that they don't treat all their customers this way. I will not be returning to Cabela's anytime soon but I'm just spit in the ocean to Cabela's. read more

I`ve been a customer of Cabelas for over 30 years now .Before they moved to Alaska we bought on line and always had the best of service .But I`m so very disappointed in there way of doing business in Anchorage. I have in the passed always bought there Cabelas brand hunting boots because of there stated warranty but try to get them to warranty a pair . The pair I had clearly were separating at the soles and after looking at reviews lots of people were haveing this same problem with these type of hunting boot. The person I was dealing with said the shoes looked pretty well used .Yea that`s because I use them. They were about six months old but if you looked at the wear on the soles you could see that there was 80 % or better left . Any way they said they would give we $99.00 toward another pair. I had paid $159.00 just six months early. So here`s my delima show me where it says in Cabelas warrant they prorate .There warranty does not state any think about prorating but yet that's what they offered even though it was clear the shoes were defect. I did ask for a manger and he said the same thing . I told them this was not acceptable .Now I need to back up a little at this point to explain something when we started this transaction they asked for my ADL which I gave them .After I told them this was not acceptable . They both ignored me left the station and went to another station to help people and left me standing there with out even a explanation. so I waited for about five minutes and finally had to get the same mangers attention so I could get my ADL . So at this point I took my shoes and left. So as of today I will never buy any thing from Cabelas again . I want to point out one last thing over these years I can`t begain to now how much money I have spent with Cabelas from sleeping bags for the whole family themorests , scopes, tents, shoes ,hip wadders, grills ,camping gear. Hi end binoculars, tri podes , cloths and guns sense they moved here .I will est low at $ 20.000 dollars and they piss it all away over a pair of boots. I will let all my hunting buddys know about this as well as the people I work with and all my relatives which is a lot and were all hunters and there kids are all hunters to . i am disgusted with the cabela's in anchorage! i realized that most of the lower 48 thinks that alaska is not even in the us, but this is directly about the store itself. i ordered 4 small boxes of some ammo on 7/31, since of course the buyers for the store are not that smart or are in total denial about the popularity of 10mm ammo in ak. i was told that i "could get it in about 2 weeks." today i called to check on it and was told that the trucks (2) had come in, but that i would likely not be able to pick it up until at least 8/24! today is 8/13. really??? i was told by bush orders that cabela's "only unloads trucks one day a week" and that "all the ammo was in one trailer." i said, "so you let a container of ammo sitting around for 2 weeks" after she told be that the one with the ammo got there after the first one, so it would be unloaded after the first one! seems that the ammo would take precedence over the clothing, but maybe i was expecting too much! so it isn't about how long it takes to get products from the lower 48, since everything is driven by truck... it is about how lazy and unmotivated a large store is to make it's customers happy and to get the products to them as soon as possible. i have never heard of a large store only unloading products one day a week. her rationale for the delay was..."we would have to take out the equipment to unload the trucks." isn't that what you people do? is this not a store where this is normal practice? cabela's...you have very bad customer service, do not keep popular products in stock, do not stock women's apparel outside of some useless crap like size 2x micro-shorts that most larger women will not wear, do not stock women's 5.11 clothing (although you have a large in-store stock of men's 5.11 clothing) and generally have piss poor policies for keeping your customer base happy. i have spoken to the store manager at least 4-5 times about all of this, but still no improvements. did you want to stay in business? read more
