It's my last night in Nashville so I want to go to a bang zoom restaurant. A few of my co workers have said to me: Mr Bill, we see every night you're going out to some amazing spots. Mind if we tag along? Sure, the rules are to keep your fork outta my plate when we sit down. Deal? The restaurant is very large, we're shown to our table. Set in the middle of the dining room and facing the bar. The bar can seat at least 25 people, the restaurant is set up for fun. To get our party started, I ordered a well crafted cocktail: Tea'd Up Old Fashioned Made with Bourbon, Black Tea and House Barrel Aged Bitters. Funky?? Oh yeah I'm with a bunch of Military Veterans and they're telling me their crazy stories. I'm sippin' my Old Fashioned and taking it all in, we need to bond over drinks and crazy things we all drank overseas. As an adult, I can appreciate my Nashville TN Old Fashioned with Black Tea. While we're talking, our waitress drops off a plate of homemade biscuits. The biscuits are fire! Buttery, flakey and moist, The Southern Steak & Oyster can make a damn good biscuit. Next, my Gumbo comes to me. The first taste I can tell this is a chef'd up dish. Better than anything I had in New Orleans. This gumbo is filled with Andouille, Crawfish, Shrimp and Fried Okra. Very flavorful indeed. My last entree in Nashville will be Fish 'N Grits. Fresh fish topped with Spicy Tasso Ham over Sweet Potato Grits and Bacon Braised Cabbage. This is a flavorful dish, the grits are very creamy and the cook on the fish was spot on. We had a great night at The Southern Steak & Oyster, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. She asked us if we wanted to move a couple times, but our food had just come out so we stayed where we were. It wasn't a big deal. But it worried her that we were sitting at a table that was wobbly and that we might not come back because of that. That's definitely not the case! Their chicken and dressing is excellent, the hoe cakes are straight out of my childhood and the catfish....the huge, plate covering pieces of delicious white meat (no slimy stuff in theirs...looking at you, chain restaurants) are my absolute favorite. We've always had overwhelmingly positive experiences at Christine's and can't wait to go back. We've been there when they're short staffed and I've had to resist the urge to ask if I can help them when I see them running around like crazy. Instead of griping when something isn't perfect, maybe figure out how you could help? It's not like they are expensive. We have no trouble grabbing our own extra napkins or going to them to ask for butter or a drink refill, ourselves. This has only happened 1-2x but cut them some slack. You're getting good food at a really good price - maybe don't be so high maintenance. Or, go to a Michelin rated restaurant, instead, if you want your every whim indulged, the moment you have it. As for us, we'll happily keep Christine's as one of our favorite local spots and return as often as possible.

That's not even a whole onion...they're making a killing on onion rings if they're back there slicing onions, battering them up and frying them in house. They tasted good, but the portion size was awful. Our food was not far behind...it arrived hot and looked delicious (which is a good thing, because it's the eyes that eat first). The Not So Naked Tater was jampacked with goodness and the person who ordered it said that it was very tasty and a nice sized tater. My brisket tasted really good. It was seasoned just right, but it had a hint of smoke flavor...not exactly what I was hoping it would be. It was clearly smoked, no doubt about that...but it didn't have as much smoke flavor as I was expecting. I was also a bit disappointed by the portion size. If my meal were a combo two-meat meal where brisket were one meat and maybe smoked sausage (which I found odd that they don't have on the menu), then the portion of brisket would have been suitable...but it was a single-meat meal with two sides. My sides of mac-n-cheese and corn on the cob were good...with the corn being the better of the two. Was also a bit disappointed that there was only ONE BBQ sauce offered at the table. I thought they offered a variety of sauces for sale at the counter, so why not showcase those same sauces at the table? I don't know...but it doesn't seem like good business to me. Overall, the service was fantastic, but frankly, I was disappointed considering the hype that surrounded this place when it came to Clarksville. Food was overpriced for the portions, likely won't go back.
