It's my last night in Nashville so I want to go to a bang zoom restaurant. A few of my co workers have said to me: Mr Bill, we see every night you're going out to some amazing spots. Mind if we tag along? Sure, the rules are to keep your fork outta my plate when we sit down. Deal? The restaurant is very large, we're shown to our table. Set in the middle of the dining room and facing the bar. The bar can seat at least 25 people, the restaurant is set up for fun. To get our party started, I ordered a well crafted cocktail: Tea'd Up Old Fashioned Made with Bourbon, Black Tea and House Barrel Aged Bitters. Funky?? Oh yeah I'm with a bunch of Military Veterans and they're telling me their crazy stories. I'm sippin' my Old Fashioned and taking it all in, we need to bond over drinks and crazy things we all drank overseas. As an adult, I can appreciate my Nashville TN Old Fashioned with Black Tea. While we're talking, our waitress drops off a plate of homemade biscuits. The biscuits are fire! Buttery, flakey and moist, The Southern Steak & Oyster can make a damn good biscuit. Next, my Gumbo comes to me. The first taste I can tell this is a chef'd up dish. Better than anything I had in New Orleans. This gumbo is filled with Andouille, Crawfish, Shrimp and Fried Okra. Very flavorful indeed. My last entree in Nashville will be Fish 'N Grits. Fresh fish topped with Spicy Tasso Ham over Sweet Potato Grits and Bacon Braised Cabbage. This is a flavorful dish, the grits are very creamy and the cook on the fish was spot on. We had a great night at The Southern Steak & Oyster, it was a pleasure to dine at your restaurant.

On one visit with only a few of us there our bartender disappeared for a good 20 minutes. Upon his return he was focused on everything but the 5 of us in the place until we finally had to ask to get service. The other visit everyone helped me but the actual server. Maybe this is a staffing problem, I don't know but being stuck for 20 minutes to order another drink with my meal is not acceptable. Although they had that check in my hand in under a minute and in under another minute to process. Again, super nicer people, but kind of oblivious. 2) Now let's talk about the kitchen. And I'm adding some input from the other diners because we all sat there waiting. - flavors are great, but the salt and spice level is overboard. I had the mushroom appetizer and nearly choked/coughed to death. I like heat but this was raw spice that overpowered the dish. And the salt about made my feet swell into balloons. Such a shame because the idea is great just poor execution - deviled eggs. Pass - BBQ Shrimp, sort of like the mushrooms right profile but overpowering - gumbo. Two other people had the gumbo and when I asked they said that too is just over spiced I want to like this place, but probably my last visit unless I just come for oysters. Sorry

The service was beyond top-notch, probably the best I have experienced since moving to Clarksville two months ago. The people in general are nice and the atmosphere is country and laid-back. This is probably my new favorite small restaurant in Montgomery County. A funny sidenote, we sat down at a table that was wobbly and one of the ladies there was so concerned about it. She asked us if we wanted to move a couple times, but our food had just come out so we stayed where we were. It wasn't a big deal. But it worried her that we were sitting at a table that was wobbly and that we might not come back because of that. That's definitely not the case! These seem to be really good people that run this restaurant. I'm so glad I just live down the road!

Hopefully our next visit would be better. The food is rating at one star. The staff are very friendly and the customer service was great. Hopefully the next time I can give it a four or five star rating.

The server was wonderful and kept the plates coming so there was no chance of running out. The fried chicken was the real deal with light breading and cooked to perfection. We were so happy we gave this a chance and waited the hour+ to get in. Without doing much research, the surprises throughout the dining experience made it even better. They pair you up at a large table with other guests. You're introduced as cousins, brothers and sisters, friends, whatever you want! But you're going to be passing dishes the entire start and getting to know your neighbors at the table. So many things came out that were incredibly delicious to try. Chicken, pot roast, mac and cheese, corn mash, coleslaw, potatoes, sweet potato, biscuits, pasta! All of it was incredible. There's peach tea and lemonade too at the table and a pecan dessert at the end. Amazing experience and it was so cheap too. Only recommendation other than to absolutely try this place is to be respectful of the time you're there. They cycle people in and out pretty quick and you're given a card to remind you that when you notice tables near you getting reset for another group, your time is up and it's time to go!

The service is usually very friendly - they have no problem joking around with you...no dry personalities reciting from corporate requirements, here. One particular occasion, we called a to-go order in and they had sold out of peaches and cream fried corn on the cobb (which is to die for). The sweetheart on the phone literally went to the Winn Dixie across the street and purchased some, so I could have it along with their fantastic, hand pattied burger. How do you ask for better service than that? You can't. Their chicken and dressing is excellent, the hoe cakes are straight out of my childhood and the catfish....the huge, plate covering pieces of delicious white meat (no slimy stuff in theirs...looking at you, chain restaurants) are my absolute favorite. We've always had overwhelmingly positive experiences at Christine's and can't wait to go back. We've been there when they're short staffed and I've had to resist the urge to ask if I can help them when I see them running around like crazy. Instead of griping when something isn't perfect, maybe figure out how you could help? It's not like they are expensive. We have no trouble grabbing our own extra napkins or going to them to ask for butter or a drink refill, ourselves. This has only happened 1-2x but cut them some slack. You're getting good food at a really good price - maybe don't be so high maintenance. Or, go to a Michelin rated restaurant, instead, if you want your every whim indulged, the moment you have it. As for us, we'll happily keep Christine's as one of our favorite local spots and return as often as possible.

My gripe about the entry is that we weren't hit with the immediate aroma of a BBQ place...that's one of the best things about going out for BBQ, but oh well. We placed our order for one large Onion Ring starter, two brisket plate meals, a Not So Naked Tater, two fountain drinks, and a water...it came to about $75.00 so I was really looking forwrd to some good portions and tasty food. Those little cheesy cornbead appetizers came to the table first. I didn't eat any of them so I won't comment on them. They were quicly followed by the LARGE Onion Ring starter with 10 rings. That's not even a whole onion...they're making a killing on onion rings if they're back there slicing onions, battering them up and frying them in house. They tasted good, but the portion size was awful. Our food was not far behind...it arrived hot and looked delicious (which is a good thing, because it's the eyes that eat first). The Not So Naked Tater was jampacked with goodness and the person who ordered it said that it was very tasty and a nice sized tater. My brisket tasted really good. It was seasoned just right, but it had a hint of smoke flavor...not exactly what I was hoping it would be. It was clearly smoked, no doubt about that...but it didn't have as much smoke flavor as I was expecting. I was also a bit disappointed by the portion size. If my meal were a combo two-meat meal where brisket were one meat and maybe smoked sausage (which I found odd that they don't have on the menu), then the portion of brisket would have been suitable...but it was a single-meat meal with two sides. My sides of mac-n-cheese and corn on the cob were good...with the corn being the better of the two. Was also a bit disappointed that there was only ONE BBQ sauce offered at the table. I thought they offered a variety of sauces for sale at the counter, so why not showcase those same sauces at the table? I don't know...but it doesn't seem like good business to me. Overall, the service was fantastic, but frankly, I was disappointed considering the hype that surrounded this place when it came to Clarksville. Food was overpriced for the portions, likely won't go back.
