Mr. Head don't need no stinking neon!!

This is a true to life, honest to gosh, real BBQ Joint! About 8 years ago ole' man Head built a small metal building in front of the pit he's been cooking on for years. Cooking for himself, church groups, neighbors and anyone that had occasion to feed a group of people all those years he got real good at it. The little metal building houses a small prep kitchen, cash register, bread rack and 2 tables. I'm thinking that about 3 years ago he added on to the little building adding 3 more tables and a metal 599 carport with picnic tables. Pulled pork, ribs and chicken halves along with the standard sides and homemade fried pies are the menu. all made right there and you can tatse the love. Opens Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday for lunch and close a little before 7PM except for Saturday, until he sales out which usally is no later than 5 but usally closer to 3. Please be advised that Mr.Head is an ole country farmer and he feeds alot of the other farmers in the area, so thats a brunch of his clientele AND it also means you can get there a little before 10 and expect someone to be eating lunch!! You might need to understand that ole BBQ Pit he built that small metal building in front of is out to the side of his house and infront of one of his barns. So, A country BBQ joint really in the country, serving real pit BBQ by family members, in a building they built in there own yard! Good.. Real Good!!! The only reason he doesn't get 5 stars is..... well, I cook BBQ too (of course ya can't buy mine) so youll just have to take my word for the fact that umm... mine's better!!

As someone who lived in Texas for nearly 20 years before relocating to Tennessee, I have a deep…read moreappreciation, and admittedly high standards, when it comes to barbecue. My daughter and I recently dined at Willie Mae's Barbecue, and I can confidently say this was an exceptionally positive experience. From the first bite, the barbecue delivered a bold, authentic flavor profile that immediately resonated. The meats were tender, expertly prepared, and layered with richness that created a true flavor explosion. Every element reflected intention and skill. The selection of barbecue sauces further elevated the meal. Each sauce offered a distinctive, well-balanced profile that complemented the meat beautifully without overpowering it. The variety and quality were impressive. The live music added an energetic and welcoming atmosphere, enhancing the overall dining experience without distracting from the meal. It created a setting that felt both relaxed and vibrant. Finding barbecue of this caliber in Tennessee, especially in a smaller town like Springfield, was a refreshing and welcome surprise. Sharing the experience with my daughter made it even more meaningful. When she returns from Texas, we will absolutely be back.

The person in charge of catering, the owner's wife, was at first unavailable and then dismissive and seemed totally uninterested in my business. One of the employees did her best to help. When I emailed to cancel the order because it was as "fun as banging my head against the wall." She replied "likewise." Extremely poor customer relations - we will never go back and never recommend.

Really good Q in downtown Dickson. I had a plate with the pulled pork and Brisket. The brisket was…read morejuicy and full of flavor, the pulled pork was a little dry, but still flavorful. They have two types of barbecue sauce, mild and hot. I felt that the hot was too spicy and mild was fine, but both didn't really have the best flavor profiles and I also prefer a thicker sauce as these sauces were very thin. The baked beans were excellent and the star of the show. I also had the potato salad, which was very good. I would highly recommend NOT sitting at the outside tables like we did. The road noise was ridiculous! It seems that every other car had an exhaust that was obnoxiously loud and deafening to the point where you couldn't hear the person across the table from you.
