I had a craving for bbq and ended up here. The owner greeted us and asked was this our 1st time. To our surprise he gave us a rib and a few bites of pork to sample (our own portion). The rib had a great flavor on the outside and tender the pork was juicy and I could taste the vinegar on it. We ended up getting the loaded brisket fries, pork and brisket plate with beans and mac plus one catfish. The catfish was my favorite and I asked for it to be fried hard. I stopped in yesterday for the first time. Located inside a small strip mall, one could easily pass it if they aren't looking for it, but I was. It was very casual inside, but everyone was working hard on orders. I told them I had never been there before, and a young man brought me a sample of a pork rib. The rib was cooked to perfection, a nice bark but falling apart in my mouth, juicy and flavorful. To me, that was a win to stand in front of the other BBQ places in town. They have several meat options, and I love brisket, so I got the brisket plate with Mac and cheese and green beans. They also give you a piece of cornbread. I took it to go, and when I got home, I had a flavor explosion of love in my mouth. My brisket was tender, and Mac and cheese were on point. However, the two things that stood out the most were the BBQ sauce, clearly homemade with love and a slight twist, or a secret ingredient that set it above the local competition. I am not sure how long Reggie's has been open at this location, but I sure hope they stick around! I saw the sign many times driving past on Trenton going to I-24 or taking exit 1, but I hadn't stopped in. On a whim today, I decided to drive there to satisfy my BBQ craving. Specifically, I wanted brisket. Having lived in Texas for many years, I developed a taste (& need) for it every now and then. If you don't keep reading, all I have to say is that I wish I found this place sooner. I got the 3-meat sampler with brisket, chicken, and ribs. The sides that I chose were the green beans and the Mac & cheese. My plate comes with two. It was enough for two people, in my opinion. As a last minute addition, I ordered the "burnt ends". Oh. Em. Gee. That was the best impulse buy ever! Something about the crispy goodness. They're not really burnt, in my opinion. Burnt is inedible- at least, when I make anything that ends up burnt. Ha. The brisket itself was amazing and seemed to melt in my mouth. I liked the bbq sauce also. I tried the mild. I prefer sweet sauces and this was sweet with a little twang! I think it had vinegar in it, but it just made the flavor unique. And, I have had a lot of barbecue and tried more sauces in my lifetime. I am older than I look, too. I will definitely be back and bring family and friends to Reggie's. I forgot to ask if they had high chairs, but they have several tables with cute picnic style covers. The decor is simple inside. They have two TVs, so you won't miss a sports game or the news. What else can I say. . . just go! Try it for yourself. Prices are fair. Wait was minimal. And, support your local small businesses. I am so full that I needed a nap. I ate so fast, I forgot to take a breath. Whew. Oh, and, my toddler finished the Mac & cheese. I never got a bite. The green beans were perfect. Most places make them too salty. I didn't mind the big chunk of meat in my cup either. Everything was delicious. We enjoy Supporting Veteran owned businesses as much as possible. I've never eaten inside Reggie's, but we have ordered it several times thru Door Dash for the home and office and the food has been consistently good. Brisket is decent and I liked the Mac n cheese and potato salad. Pork isn't bad either. My husband says the sauce is sweeter than he prefers but i think it's because he's from Texas and as others have pointed out this is a Carolina style. The office staff enjoyed the beans as well. Also a little sweet. 2 things i think could use some improvement in would be the Cole slaw - rather bland - and to actually provide the item advertising. The 2 times we opted for the Texas Toast rather than the buns on the family meals we received what looked to be toasted Bunny bread. Texas Toast is thick...thick thick. Went to this bbq joint on the way to Nashville and WOW! I had the catfish platter and the fish was so crispy! The sides were great, too! My bf had the burnt ends and they were out of this world. We are now in food coma and will have to nap before hitting Broadway this afternoon. The owner came out and said hello and was very gracious. The other employees were very nice. Everything was decently tasting. Had 2 meat sampler with ribs, brisket, collard greens and baked beans. Also comes with a slice of Texas toast. Ribs: not super meaty but some of the better ribs I've had Brisket: seemed kinda old and a little dry. Tasted good and tender Collard greens: someone in my party complained they were too spicy but I didn't mind and was happy to get something healthy Baked beans: I though were really tasty I would recommend people get ribs and brisket because I think that's what really is a true baseline for any bbq but other stuff on the menu like the tips might be better. Food my party orders but I didn't really try Coleslaw is not homemade and not that good (so I heard) Pulled pork: vinegar based and pretty tasty. Party member was saying that the vinegar broke down the pork proteins making it kinda mushy/overcooked but I thought it was fine and would have been okay with it myself Green bean: said picky person in the rest of the review enjoyed their green beans so I guess I'd recommend I'd imagine the Oak grove location( which is only open for lunch) would have fresher food due to higher turnover and worthy of 5 stars but idk, we went for dinner to Clarksville location Shame they didn't have more business but whatcha going to do. The meat didn't have a smoke ring if you care about that type of thing and there wasn't a smoky smell in the air till they started prepping our food. I'm a big boy and had not eaten anything since I jumped on a plane in LAX at 6 am so I bought the pork rib plate (4 pork ribs, potato salad & Mac n Cheese) and a side of burnt ends. I could not finish any of it. Very good portion size. The ribs were great as was the burnt ends with the spicy sauce. Service was quick and efficient. I usually visit this area once a year. I'd never heard of this place but it came highly recommended. I visit my sister when I'm in town and she knows I'm a BBQ snob. She got this recommendation from a coworker so we went. Loved the aesthetic of the place. Owner was working the till, I asked what's good and he gave me a good amount of sample. I've done BBQ professional and I'll happily admit that I'm better than most, I've worked hard at my craft and am proud of my product. What I find is that most pulled pork is average at best and relies on smoke and sauce for flavor. I have no idea how he does how his pork and honestly I don't want to. It's got a tang of vinegar but a touch of heat. I'll 100% say that it's the best pulled pork I've eaten anywhere and if I went head to head with that in a competition I'd proudly take 2nd, it's amazing! His brisket was perfect texture and great flavor as well. He gave me a rib sample and it how I do them myself with a dry rub and a great chew. He's also got a wonderful sauce. I didn't try the spicy and my mouth just doesn't like that. When I'm in town this will be my goto. Pure love for this food read more
