One of my favorite barbecue places! I absolutely love their baked beans, and green beans! Two inconsistencies to note for me was with their coleslaw and potato salad. Coleslaw was great to me when it tasted more like mayonnaise coleslaw instead of vinegar coleslaw. The potato salad was great if the potatoes are cooked well but several times I've bought it as a side to go but the potatoes were undercooked and crunchy. I ended up throwing it away. They need to update their website. They're closed on Tuesday now. I drove all the way out there on a Tuesday. Sign said open, but they were closed. They need to fix that for customers that come from surrounding areas. Basic country diner with overall 8/10 food but potential for 10/10 with a couple side items fixed. read more

Drove a few miles out of the way to get some good BBQ and was not disappointed. The lady at the counter was very nice and provided excellent customer service. Excellent lean chopped pulled pork. Sauce is great and not so spicy that our 7 year old son did not enjoy it. He is picky but ate his entire sandwich. Baked beans, potato salad, and cole slaw are delicious - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Wife said the Mac & Cheese was delicious and recommends it. We bought the family pack and enjoyed it. Hoped for more of a dessert selection but the pecan pie was great anyhow. Where do I begin. My wife and I pass by Red Top all the time and never had a chance to stop. So, a friend had recommended going there so we stopped for some brisket. I really need to start this with a couple of high points. The place was spotless and boasts a 99 on the health report. It's small and quaint inside. Reminds you of one of those hole in the wall places with great food! The young girl taking orders was very pleasant and got the order correct and got it to us fast. Now I am really hoping that we came by on a bad day cause what we got does not equal the stars they have. We both ordered the "Beef" plate with two sides. The beef, or brisket as we were told it was, was shredded, which if you like it that way, it's fine. However, that's not how you serve brisket. It was also kind of bland. I'll leave the sauce out of it just because it's tangy. Not a tangy sauce fan, that's just me. The corn bread, although tasted good, was very dry even with extra butter. I posted a pick of the coleslaw for two specific reasons...it's green and had pickles in it. The potato salad wasn't too bad, and the apples were not overly sweet, so there's that. The Red Top Barbecue was a legend when I was at Fort Campbell 2012-2018, and I never tried it. This time I decided that I would make every effort to visit Red Top Barbecue. Granted it has been a few years, but I was left very unimpressed. The first sign of any good barbecue joint is the smell of smoke when you park your vehicle and approach the building. I should have known it was not going to live up to the hype when there was no smoke in the air. We decided to try it anyway. The Baked Beans as well as the Macaroni and Cheese were obviously from the can. The meat, pulled pork, was very dry and lacked a nice pink smoke ring, or bark. The sausage was the highlight of my pate, ad it was mediocre at best. The service was good, and very quick, possibly because nothing was fresh made, but it was the best part of the visit. read more

I found out about this place because they catered an event I went to and found their sauce to be really good with their smoked sausage. A little spicy, with the nice smokiness in their sausage. I didn't get to try much else because it was almost all gone by the time I got to it. I searched it on Yelp, found two very good reviews and bookmarked it.. I went there with my gf since it was one of the few non chains in the area. It's a bit out of the way but definitely not hard to find since there's a giant red smoker in the shape of a tractor. The small, storefront has 5 tables and no menu, just go up there and order. The woman got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and after telling the lady at the counter I was torn between the smoked sausage and the pork she suggested the two meat platter and pointed at a very small section on the whiteboard that had their plates-not much it was a 2 meat plate and a 3 meat. The plate came with 2 sides, so I went with the hash brown casserole and the mac and cheese. The sausage was as good as I remember it with nice snap despite the smoking and the sauce went with it and the pulled pork. The meat seemed to just soak up the sauce though without making everything a soggy mess and the hash brown casserole and mac and cheese were both gooey, cheese compliments to the main meats and my woman friend kept sneaking bites of the potato and the mac and cheese despite her order of curly fries. Great meats, great sides and it will be on the top of my list to take visitors. read more

We did a farewell luncheon on post (Ft Campbell) for around 25 people. After comparing prices and reading tons of reviews, we went with Red Top. Zero complaints. Every single person (Southern BBQ lovers includes) looovvved all of it. We did BBQ chicken, pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad and green beans. They gave us tons of food, and the only thing left over after everyone took a plate home was a bag of buns. I can recommend this restaurant without reservation. The meats were moist and flavorful. Wow. I love southern food and this place blew me away. Super tender pulled chicken and brisket with their mild sauce was phenomenal. Sweet potato casserole was literally to die for with the sweet taste of caramelized pecans. Green beans and the CORN BREAD PANCAKE were so freaking good I could eat here everyday. The first time we drove by this place was on the way home from the Country Pantry, and as we did it was a, "Schucks, I could go for BBQ..." so this time coming home from the Pantry we stopped, and picked up some food for dinner. My oh my am I sure glad we did! I think I have found my new favorite restaurant in Clarksville! I know there's different kinds of BBQ, Carolina, Mississippi, etc... and I'm not hop enough to know what kind this is (it's got the yummy bbq sauce)... but it's delicious! And there was so much food! For a three-meat plate, I ordered sausage, pork, and rib. I got a giant beef rib, tons of chopped pork, and loads of sausage. My two sides were baked beans (definitely way better than the canned kind!) and some savory mac and cheese. AND two rolls. My kid and I couldn't even finish the plate (he eats a lot, and I didn't eat lunch)... You better believe I'm coming back here. AND bringing everyone with me! read more

Had the pork and the pork ribs with hash brown casserole and sweet potato souffle. The ribs were tender and wonderfully smokey served dry. My only complaint is that I prefer the membrane removed and it was not. The pork was great. As mentioned by others, the sauce is pretty vinegar-y which I liked but you need to like that flavor. The hash brown caserole was delirious - crispy on the bottom and a good amount of cheese. Sweet potatoes were... Well... Sweet... with nuts. Over all it was a great BBQ experience. Red Top is the kind of place you want to be selfish about and not recommend because you don't want to wait in an even longer line. Delicious. I have eaten at the restaurant/ordered catering through them. Their pulled pork is some of the best I've ever had...they shred it in a way where you still get magical bites of smoky outer bark. Sides are really good too. Turnip greens, burgoo, and baked apples recommended. Sauces are a great balance of sweet Memphis/Midwestern and tangy Carolina style. Staff has always been friendly, and catering was affordable compared to other quotes in the Clarksville area. Excellent BBQ! It's a few miles off the beaten path, but it's definitely worth it - take the drive down the country road and it is across from a gas station in a log cabin style building. It will on the right after the giant cow statue wearing red glasses - yeah, you read that right lol. The chicken was super juicy and tender, it fell right off the bone and into my mouth. The hashbrown casserole is cheesy and creamy, just add some extra pepper and spice it up. Loved the coleslaw with vinegar, it's sweet and has some pickles in it. The cornbread comes fried like a pancake and is savory, not sweet. Tried both BBQ sauces, mild and spicy - to be honest they both tasted similar to me, no heat to the spicy. We just tried the pulled pork sandwiches, with hot sauce, and purchased their coleslaw to add ($10 for 2 sandwiches and one side of slaw - why wouldn't it be included??) The meat was plentiful, tender, but the sauce was very minimal - get extra, because the meat really isn't seasoned so the sauce is so necessary! The coleslaw was basic (mayo and vinegar), but from someone who usually dislikes most coleslaw, it was perfect! Was taken here by a local, and so glad I was! There is nothing fancy about the place, but it's GREAT food and has plenty of parking and places to sit. The food comes in a HEAPING portion that none of us could finish. I got the brisket and sausage, and I wish I'd stuck to just one meat as it was so much of each, but I wanted to try both! I really do not understand the rave reviews on this place. I had the pulled pork and chicken with 2 sides, greens and Mac and Cheese. The greens are out of a can and so is the Mac and Cheese, the kind they serve in hospitals. Absolutely no flavor in either of them. The meat was just ok nothing to rave about. The sauces were as plain as everything else, one tasted like straight vinegar and the other like ketchup. Perhaps the positive ratings are from folks that have never had real BBQ, greens or Mac and Cheese? By us I mean the two southern women in the group, I thought they could have had some pork in them for extra flavor, but they were good to me. But as I am a "Yankee " I'll defer to the ladies. This is a great place to eat. The pulled pork and brisket are excellent. My friend loves the ribs. Sauces are a little vinegary for me, but I also am not a fan of vinegar based sauce. The sweet potato casserole is incredible, smooth and sweet with a pecan/brown sugar crust on top. The hash brown casserole is also very good. I almost left three stars but I felt maybe that was unfair due to my bbq standards. This definitely isn't GA or TX bbq. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Their hot bbq sauce was the only one worth eating. Their beef was wet. Not like moist, but actually wet. This changes the texture a bit. I was excited to get the hashbrown casserole after so many reviews. It's not what I'm used to. It really reminds me of mac and cheese, just with potatoes instead of noodle and powerful onions. It's creamy. Just lacking in depth I think. The green beans need some seasoning meat. All around its not the worst bbq I've ever tasted. But it's far from award winning. read more

Being from Texas, I've missed good BBQ! Some friends introduced it to us while driving back from Bowling Green and boy was it yummy! We got the sample platter with 3 different meats. I think brisket, ribs, and sausage. They have a variety of different sides. We chose the mac and cheese with baked beans. You can get your BBQ sauce mild or spicy. Spicy is where it's at. You may need to ask for an extra container of it though because the one they put with the meal is small. Of course they have sweet and unsweet tea. The sweet tea was deliciously sweet so you may need to mix with the unsweet to tame it down. Overall...amazing! Would love to go back. It's only a short drive from Clarksville. read more
