The sheer amount and quality that you get for the price is unbelievable and I am thoroughly impressed every single time. The interior was spacious, and actually had two connected dining rooms with plenty of seating. The ambiance was casual but pleasant. For drinks, it was BYOB, so my parents brought their own beer and wine, and Masa provided the glassware. For food, I started with the Salmon Tartar, which was fresh and very tasty. The portion size was large enough to share between a few people. I also tried some of my brother's T.Y.S. Sashimi, which we really liked - great cuts of fish. The Wasabi Octopus was a unique dish, but the wasabi flavor was a bit too strong for me. For my entree, I chose the Spring Scallops off the specials menu. While I'd never seen a roll like this before, I can't say I was obsessed. The scallops were tasty, but the spring roll inside of the sushi rice was a little strange. My family enjoyed the rest of their items, including the Crazy Roll (very large portion size), Nabeyaki Udon (one of our favorites), Spicy Salmon Roll, Negihama, Yellowtail Sashimi, and Eel Sushi. Service was fast and friendly! Overall solid for dinner - would return.

Shame, because the Sashimi and Sushi were easily the best I ever had. And I have NEVER been to a BYOB restaurant where the staff did not open or even offer to open our wine. Instead , they delivered a crappy corkscrew to our table so we could do it ourselves.

Mostly, we asked Tony to choose the sushi and sashimi creations for us, and he delivered it, not all at once, but in the more traditional Japanese style, a few carefully prepared pieces at a time. The variety of fishes was wonderful, particularly, including Uni, one of my favorites. The one non-raw-fish-eater in our party chose the beef Negimyaki dinner, a delicious dish and large enough to be a great souvenir for the next day. All this was accompanied by a good Sauvignon Blanc. On this visit the restaurant was not at all crowded, and, as a result, quiet. It seems that much of their business is takeout, at least on weekdays. I highly reccomend Gen Sushi for a delightful Japanese experience at a reasonable price.
