    Wagyu Beef Burger

Having heard from SEVERAL thousand people that MOS burgers are amazing/ delicious/ life changing I was determined to test out the Sunny bank headquarters and see if it lived up to the hype. ...And sadly it did not. Don't get me wrong the service and general look and feel of MOS were pretty cool (The packaging and design is superb.) But the burger fell pretty flat in my amazing-o-meter. I had the wagyu beef, and all I could keep thinking is how similar it tasted to the plastic fantastic cheeseburgers of McDonalds. The only star of the night was the deliciously soft and creamy Matcha (Green Tea) Latte. But while MOS can't really compete with Australian burger staples such as Grill'd. I still think this place is worth a try if you are in the Sunnybank vicinity.

I was first introduced to Mos Burger while visiting my brother in Osaka, where he was working. Japan, for all its culinary accomplishments, isn't immune from the greasy burger joint - but Mos Burger isn't that. At first glance its modestly sized hamburgers might not look that different to a McDonald's cheeseburger, but once the touch and taste tests are applied you will notice a world of difference. What makes these unremarkable looking burgers gourmet is the freshness of the ingredients, the care taken in preparing your meal and the availability of a few innovative options, like Mos's signature 'rice-bun'. Their bread rolls have that mass-produced, uniform appearance but are surprisingly good quality and not overly sugary like the buns at the dodgier joints. While they don't match joints like Grilled and Burger Urge for sheer size and rusticity, their fare can be viewed in the context of Japanese Zen Buddhism - simple, uncluttered and ultimately fulfilling. They also do a decent takeaway coffee (even though it is made by an automatic machine that a trained dog could operate).

This place is great! They have a wide selection of burgers available, including wagu beef! They're delicious, and be sure to get a meal set with ice tea- it's sweet and compliments the burgers nicely. My one wish was they had seasoning for their fries- it can seem a little blan competed to the flavoursum burger!

    Wagyu works burger, amazing!

Great service, burgers are always nice and doesn't run out of matcha so often like the city one does! Also pretty cheap.

Not even kidding but I have Oishi's phone number saved for ease of access to make reservations whenever my friends and family are craving good sushi. That's when you know it's a definite go to ! They don't mess around with silly western flavors or fusions - their menu is quite traditional Japanese. You can order sushi, noodles, side dishes, rice dishes here which is great if you're not feeling just sushi. They offer fresh sashimi and fried sushi rolls too which is so yummy. Had the udon noodles for the first time rather than just the sushi and I was so pleased it was so simple but executed well.

I'm a big fan because.. 1) This place has A&W Rootbeer (woohoo, go the asian in me) 2) This place has green tea ice cream 3) This place serves up a mean agedashi tofu (om nom nom nom) My weakness for agedashi tofu was realised here along with my weakness for the seaweed salad, potato salad and edamame. Oh the edamame. So much of it. In fact the Yakitori Chicken is pretty good too, so is most the stuff on the entree section of the menu. Damn this place! So our bill did come up to a whopping $80 for the 4 of us... but we left there feeling satisfied, feeling like we would come back and feeling like we wouldn't be sick the next day - which is always a good thing. Definetely going back there.

Not that I'm complaining because where it's situated is convenient for me to get to plus there's easy parking. Shinbashi has a $35 all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ which is always a popular option. I fyou go this route, make sure to try their fantastic wagyu and marble beef. However, my husband and I always splurge on their $99 Signature Selection for two. It includes these tasty additional extras like Bacon asparagus and Bacon rice cakes. There's also this buttery cheese, sweet potato dish which takes about twenty minutes to cook up on the BBQ but is worth the wait. The service here is great. They always remember to refill my green tea and there's this delicious complimentary soup which comes in a teapot that you can easily fill up on and ruin your dinner if you're not careful. If you live further afield, Shinbashi Yakiniku is definitely worth the drive out to Underwood.

There's Japanese rice beer to match, though I didn't see how that was going to be consumed amongst the plethora of meats in front of me. Also good to know - the meat is delicious, because it is marbled with delicious fat. I went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Defs popular amongst the locals.. Or those who know its there. Firstly, it's a pity this is such a small shop with no proper seating areas for those wanting to eat "in." I've put speech marks in that because the seating area is actually outdoors as the place is a kiosk. There's really only room for maybe four people to sit there. Secondly, I LOVED the yakitori! The rice bowl had seaweed and spring onions and yakitori sauce, which was a savoury sweet and addictive flavour. So yum. And at $8.50, it's definitely a bargain. I really wish they had a bigger space. An actual restaurant so people can sit comfortably. I would definitely go back again to try out other things on the menu.

Nikumaki Honpo has a little shop front which faces onto the parking lot. Even all the signs pointing people in its direction doesn't direct as much traffic here as this little shop deserves. It also doesn't help that they sell obscure parcels of deliciousness called Nikumaki. What is that you ask. Well, they're oven baked steamed rice balls wrapped with marinated slices of pork. They really are delicious though not as practical to eat as a sushi roll. One roll makes a decent lunch and at $4 each, it's a bargain price. Make sure you ask for the free chilli and coriander toppings. Simply delicious! Warning: Nikumakis are baked regularly and come out of the oven piping hot. Be careful not to burn yourself.

I had taken in my surroundings. This was clearly one of those places were all the action was saved for the kitchen, or so i hoped. I looked up to see a menu board that boasted well over fifty items, including typical Japanese favourites (teriyaki noodles, Japanese curry) to more out of the box fare (octopus balls, eel). I went with a dish that was accompanied by a yummy looking photo and while I'm not entirely sure what the ingredients were it sure was tasty. As I ate I noticed the staff preparing fresh sushi rolls behind the counter and opted to try the spicy beef. Perhaps not a traditional choice but one I can heartily recommend.
