This is a health-burger chain store that promises to deliver fantastic, organic-tasting burgers at good prices and it does - they just forgot to mention how big the portions are. It's not a bad problem to have, really - much better than getting an unexpectedly tiny serving when a restaurant is aiming for 'pretentious'. Most recently I went to Grill'd with three friends. One was a vegetarian, and she was delighted by the vegetarian burgers on offer here. We all ordered different burgers, all with bizarre stylized names I cannot recall now nor mere seconds after placing the order. When they came out, the shapes of the buns and spilling lettuce made them all look like the same burger. But they all tasted quite different. The sauces on each burger are definitely catered towards the burger's theme, which is good to know if you want to avoid something spicy (e.g. stay away from anything with the word "Mexican" in it.). Lamb burgers are interesting, but generally I stick with beef. I stuck with beef this time and, accepting a taste of the lamb burger from my dutiful friend, I think the beef burgers are better here. The vibe of this restaurant is a cross between 1960s retro and Planet Hollywood. It's a little unashamedly chain-like in its brash colouring, but it's a cool colour scheme and the "Grill'd" sign is written in a delightful Happy Days-like font. The location is also ideal: you're above-ground as Grill'd is located within a larger complex, so you get a nice amount of wind coming down off Mt Cootha, or however wind moves. I'm not a meteorologist.

The pros? A Grill'd Mini Moo on a gluten-free bun with avocado and tasty cheese. Hold the tomato sauce and herbed mayo. The cons? I've had it so often now it's time for Grill'd Rosalie and I to take a break (I'll assure you it won't last long). True to the brand, the staff at Grill'd Rosalie are always jazzy, happy-go-lucky and full of hipster cred which gives a great atmosphere. I've been to a few other Grill'd locations and perhaps it's my local pride kicking in but they're never the same. Around Movember (November) the line is out the door but generally the burger delivery to belly ratio is minimal. Enjoy!

And why not? these burgers are possibly the largest, most filling, & arguably most succulent burgers in town. Getta Burger is all about big flavours & insanely big burgers. There's no "gourmet" fancy scshhmancy pants here, just in your face, lets-get-messy, you're-going-to-cop-the-fat, but-be-back-for-more juicy goodness. Getta burger grinds & smokes their own meat, & make all their special sauces. The menu is uncomplicated, ranging from pulled pork, beef brisket, regular beef pattys, and nothing is over $15. They all sound so tantalising too, that you may just frustrate the counter staff with your indecisiveness. We ended up going with the: (1) "Getta Boss" ($14) - 12 hour smoked beef brisket, crispy bacon, double cheese, pickle, jalapenos & "That BBQ Sauce". (2) "Getta Beef Brisket" ($11), 12 hour smoked beef brisket, slaw, pickle, "That BBQ Sauce", & cheese. These babies are Monstrous! Basically, you can cut the burgers in half, & save some the next morning for lunch. Both burgers seem to have the right balance of flavours, moisture and texture, and hits all the right spots. We also ordered fries but it was the seasoning of their "own smoked salt dust" that stood out. Not sure how they've come up with that seasoning, but we were licking it off our fingers. Getta Burger is probably more suited to take-away rather than eating-in, as the space is limited & there's probably not enough seating to accommodate the hordes of burger lovers flocking to this part of town. Will be back!

Also noticed the girl on the grill looked about 17-18 which surprised me as brisket and other items on the menu are easy to get wrong without enough experience on the grill. Might explain the inconsistency I've had in quality of food when ordering from here previously. At this stage I dont really see a point coming back to eat at this franchise sadly.

Just Poppy's specialise in burgers as well as fish and chips. They have many many burgers... over 50 I would have to say at least looking at their menu. I had a burger with beetroot, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, a homestyle beef patty and barbeque sauce... let's just say, it came out pretty damn big. So big most of the ingredients fell out the bottom onto the paper bag it came in after my first and second bite (don't you hate that). I would be lying if I said the burger sucked because I couldn't get my act together enough to hold it together literally, but it was quite nice. It was value for money and I was definetely full after that, don't even get me started on the chips we ordered, we couldn't touch them. If I could offer any critique, it would be that the burgers could be a bit smaller (never thought i'd say that) and maybe the buns could be toasted a little more so they didn't just fall apart into the burger falling through the burger. Definetely worth a try if you're a local or in the centenary area.

I'm not sure if there's been a change across the chain since then, but my visit to Brisbane's Wintergarden Grill'd was a bit sub-par compared to what I remembered. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service and atmosphere at this Grill'd are both perfectly fine, and they've got a good deal of real estate to work with. The burgers are made fresh to order, so you can expect to wait a good ten minutes as I did for my standard Grill'd Burger. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $12.00 AUD for a Grill'd Burger was a reasonable price point, and this burger was of good size. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Everything about my Grill'd Burger was just okay. For starters, while the patty had some good flavor to it it was far too small especially compared to the oversized bun. From there, the peripherals were unique enough to keep it interesting, but made the patty seem like a supporting act as opposed to the star of the show. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? The Wintergarden Grill'd dishes up good burgers, but I don't think great burgers. No Star.

Grill'd's (that's weird) look is novel, and varies between chains, but I especially like this one with it's extra-large fork "chandelier" and wooden interior decor (and went a little photo happy with my iPhone). Their decor isn't anything elaborate, but simple and novel. I like their overall presentation of both the place and the food, plus they give you an "emergency knife" for those who have hard time managing their burger... I had the Moroccan Lamb burger, which was better than one of their beef burgers that I had some time ago, and their fries were pretty good as usual. Boris had a beef burger, which looked pretty good, especially with the panini bread, rather than the traditional. Though the patties were still the "Australian burger patties" that come in "pattie-cutter" form and resemble meatloaf, the burger combinations of Grill'd's burgers still better than a lot of places that I've tried. Yee, I'm not sure that meal was exactly 'healthy' as they advertise it, but it did leave me full for quite a while after...
