When I heard this burger joint was called GLOBAL Burgers, my brain went to things like "tandoori…read morechicken burger" and "satay chicken burger", because I like chicken burgers and I LOVE satay chicken. What this meant was that when I rocked up and found no mention of peanut satay, my heart sank. However, the menu did manage to hold my attention when, true to GLOBAL expectation, all the burgers were named after (and suitably cliché-themed for) locations. Rushed for time, I ordered a Mackay Fish Burger (Global also have stores in Mackay and Rockhampton, so I guess they've come from CQ? And where is the Rocky Beef Burger?) - tempura barra with lettuce, tomato, and a lightly spiced mayo. Simple and tasty. The over-floured wholemeal bun it came on left me covered in flour, but I was impressed by the fancy takeaway box. I'd consider some of the things on the menu to be a bit expensive, but in general it's on par with other burger joints. Had I had a bit more time up my sleeve, I would have dined in and sat in the outdoor section, and maybe ordered a Bangkok Chicken Burger (thai-marinated with pickled condiments), a Wellington Lamb Burger (ingredients include a potato fritter!), a Vancouver Beef Burger (inc smokey bacon and onion maple jam), or a New Orleans Chicken Burger (cajun-spiced, inc BBQ corn salsa and cajun-spiced sour cream). There are decent sides and chips menus (onion rings, sweet potato chips, shoestring OR steak cut chips) and a couple of vegetarian options (Moroccan Chickpea Burger or Mediterranean Sandwich). Global Burgers is in a fairly new and shiny Woolworths complex (does anyone else define a complex by whether it has a Coles or a Woolies in it?) on the corner of Harries Rd and Holdsworth St, a block back from Old Cleveland Road. There's some street parking, or parking in the complex carpark. The shop was empty apart from staff when I went in, but I was pretty early for a dinner shift (5:45pm). Speaking of the staff, they were fun and friendly - though one of them was a bit confused and may have thought he was auditioning for the Voice, as for the 10-15mins I was there, he continued to belt out Hinder's "Lips of an Angel", which is possibly one of my least favourite songs of all time. Perhaps next time he could ask me if I have any requests.

Their Mediterranean salad is passable on occasion with good flavours but it just takes so long for this to be served. I do not recommend this in any way, shape or form and would suggest avoidance.

The french fries 'chips' were really good we liked them, but I was shocked they charge for ketchup 'tomato sauce' which was okay. There was no greeting but hey, all doubts were cast aside when my very first DA'Burger was brought to our table. These burgers are massive and for less than $20 (including a serve of beer battered chips) it's a bloody great value dinner for any burger-lover. I went with the classic DA'Burger with cheese which translated into Burgernese is a standard cheeseburger. The bun is fresh and soft, the red onion, lettuce and tomato bright and not wilted, the burger patty thick like a hockey puck, the mayo just enough. Yes, I sound like Goldilocks facing some serious first world problems, I know. So without waxing lyrical about a burger any further - they're good. There might not be anything fancy with this burger but the fact that it's not remotely greasy and actually tastes and looks like real food? Well, I'd give it two thumbs up but they're too busy trying to pick up this massive bun to eat. I also like, and want to follow up, on the fact that you can pre-purchase burgers that they then distribute to homeless people in the area. Way to pay it forward, guys!

I saw a photo of Greaser online of its creepy back area, a concrete and fluroescent light dungeon…read morecovered in menacing graffiti, and made plans with friends to go there immediately. Greaser's shtick is, well, a 50s American greaser bar. Think of the kind of place James Dean and the Fonz would have a beverage. It also serves greasy (hehe) American food like fried chicken, burgers, fries and hot dogs. Greaser's front bar area is not a creepy dungeon at all, and quite elegant and cosy under the dim lighting. Between all of us, my group of friends ordered everything off the menu. I ordered the fried chicken. The coating was KFC-like but with interesting spices in it - I think it may have been dukkah. Unlike KFC, I didn't feel sadness and regrets afterwards - it was really delicious. Our meals came with onion-y "red eye" gravy and smoked chipotle mayonnaise, which I quickly became addicted to and mopped up with chips. There's a few interesting beers on tap but I had the special that night - whisky with freshly-made apple juice, straight from the juicer. PLUS the bar played some fun rockabilly and 80s tunes that got us chair-dancing over our burgers. Greaser is pretty cool. I hope they hold events and gigs in the future because it's a rad little space.

This place is absolutely fantastic. Hands down the best bar in Brisbane I've been to in years…read more Greaser is bang on trend in the way that only a place opened once a trend has settled down can be. Serves generally American food and drinks? Check. Craft beer? Check. Much edgier barstaff than you are? Check? Down an alley? Check. Johnny Cash on the stereo? Check and check. I wanted to go because I wanted to try it but with some recent rock bottom experiences with other bars in this vein I kept expectations set to low. There is nothing particularly original about Greasers. American food stopped being a revelation a while ago, and frankly is starting to grate a little. Bloody Marys and Picklebacks are having a real moment right now so people are slinging them at you anywhere you go. And craft beer? You can now actually get it with breakfast some places. The fact that these are everywhere does not in any way diminish their appeal. I like burgers, I love bloody marys, and I enjoy brine more than is entirely reasonable. And these offerings are made all the more appealing by Greaser. The space itself is lovely with ample couch seating and booths, elegantly low lighting that isn't seedy and the mid-century music that is curated rather than cloying. Special mention must be made of the staff. During our visit they were uniformly incredibly polite, attentive and very very pleasant to deal with. Knowledgeable about the drinks behind them and able to mix an excellent cocktail. These are the sort of staff we should see more of and who should be clutched like rare diamonds by bar owners. Special shout to the woman with the tattoos and undercut. She mixed what is easily the best bloody mary I've had in Brisbane. Served on bourbon with plenty of hot sauce, this was living and this was living well. Greaser also has a top flight tequila selection which is really great to see. It's wonderful that more places are experimenting with tequila and incorporating it into more than shots, which is a really barbaric way to treat a drink of such complexity. One of our group hailed from Mexico City so this was a blessed relief. My ex is Mexican and nothing says 'Australians are completely clueless about soft racism' than taking someone's national drink and letting bogans punch it until they fall over Here the reposada is served in appropriate glassware and all is good. The troubles with on-trend establishments are just like the troubles of any other establishment, poor staff, wrong price point, sub-par offerings etc. The problem is when a venue is also tricked up there can be a gloss over it that keeps people coming back for no particularly great reason other than to be seen to enjoy themselves. Greaser suffers for none of this. This is a bar that is serious about being a bar. All venues need an edge. But as more and more venues in Brisbane slide from creative to kitsch it is deeply refreshing to see a venue like Greaser that maintains an interesting point but does it with a laser like focus on great service, great décor, great drinks and great food. It's a real credit to the group behind this venture. I'll be back. A lot.

The burgers are a little messy to eat, they provide a fork to eat your burger with. Think almost of a Korean rice bowl that's somewhat shaped and able to be eaten in your lap/hands. The beer battered chips are some of the better chips I've had too. I'm not sure if this is because it doesn't get overly busy and the oil hasn't been used a million times. Delicious and crispy. The seasoning was addictive. I only tried the burgers here but I'm keen to return to try the fried chicken! They open very late too so great for stopping by on the way home after drinks. They're freshly friend and perfectly golden brown and crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I wish they would have one vegetarian meal offering but it is called Korean "Burger" for a reason and has a giant chicken as its logo so I can't claim ignorance. Unexpectedly in the vacinity, I directed a detour stopping here for a late lunch-slash-early dinner. No regrets. Never again will I slum it through the drive thru of a golden arch for a cheeseburger fix. This was the real deal - there was even coleslaw on this puppy. The bun was toasted to a crisp perfection, the right balance of ketchup to mustard and a meat patty that had some oomph to it. The shop itself reminds me of a fish and chip shop my family would visit growing up. That's to say its basic, no frills. It doesn't need it. Carolina Kitchen is a family business owned by an expat from South Carolina, Mike Perry, located on a quiet suburban street in Coopooroo. Already there is a massive following on their Facebook group, with regulars and new comers singing their praises for the Buffalo Wings and BBQ Ribs. Both times I've been for a Saturday lunch, we've booked to save us a table. The place fills up quickly, so if you have more than 2 people, I would definitely suggest booking ahead of time. The BBQ ribs are so juicy and covered in sauce, and the Buffalo wings pack a punch with the original spicy sauce. Dip the wings in the blue cheese dipping sauce to cool your mouth. They have a wide variety of different flavoured Coke, Dr Pepper and Fanta - flavours you don't usually get in Australia. Cherry Dr Pepper tastes like sugary baby Panadol, but I love it! For a serious feed you can either go with one of the Hoagies - a sandwich on a long, Sub roll - or a burger "All The Way". That means everything including onions. There's cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and hamburgers, as well as Hot Dogs. Unfortunately, during my last visit they didn't have any Pie for sale, but quite often they will be selling a Pumpkin, Cherry or Pecan pie by the slice. I did manage to place an order for a Pumpkin pie to take home for Christmas. $30 for a whole sweet pie - traditional American style Pumpkin pie!
