To start off, I'm Californian and I expect high quality Mexican food. Mexican is my favorite style of cooking, and coming from an area heavily influenced by Mexican cooking, it's hard not to expect quality and cheap food. That's really not the case for Guzman and Gomez. To be fair, all Mexican in Australia is horrible, so this is as good as it gets.
The employees at Guzman and Gomez are great, they know how to whip out all the food in impressive speeds, but when you're ordering there is little patience for customers.
There's a bunch of Guzman and Gomez popping up all over Brisbane (UQ, QUT, Toowong, City, South Bank, etc) and I expect that they will continue to spread all over Queensland and Australia. There usually lots of seating nearby, but this is generally a takeaway joint.
Onto the food, ugh. Again, as a Californian, this is horrible Mexican food. As an Australian, it's the best you'll get in Brisbane. Compared to the size and price you can get in America, it's expensive and small here. You can get a burrito for about 12 dollars but it's quite small in my opinion and two may be necessary if you're quite hungry. I always get the not spicy chicken burrito with guac (2.00 extra).
Positive of G&G, they often have free burrito events when a new location opens up, but expect crazy lines. Also, 5 dollars on cinco de mayo so yay!
To be honest, I'd never pay full price for their food, but I just have higher expectations. I'm sure as an Australian though, it's definitely worth the price and quality. read more
