Decent food, decent price and decent service. Can't really go wrong, can it? I recommend the roti.

Roti Place - Hainanese chicken rice

I was seated at a spacious table and was given a comfortable amount of time to look at the menu. The lightly sweet sauces and hearty flavor are were exactly what I was looking for. Nicely balanced with bean sprouts and a soup. Kumquat lemonade for a refreshing finisher. The hostess and other staff were friendly and I enjoyed dining in on a rainy day.

I ended up having Roti Place when visiting Brisbane, and this was a really nice experience. I found…read morethis place when searching for food around the area - and this place is quite popular. The service here is fast and thankfully after waiting around 15 mins on a Friday night we were seated and ready to eat! The ambiance here is nice for a girls night or to bring the family. For food we ordered: * Salt Egg Yolk Chicken - this is delicious and crispy. The chicken is fried but quite flavorful and juicy * Roti Canai - the roti here is made really fresh and you can see the guy making it in the corner which is nice. This also came with a sauce to dip the bread into * Singaporean chili crab - this was yummy and came with two crabs - they are definitely small so the main meat you will get is in the head portion rather than the claws, but this was pretty good Overall, if you are looking for a unique flavorful experience, this is a good spot for you! The portions are great and the prices are solid - so definitely worth a visit!

I had such a pleasant experience dining here! This place is great for lunch and dinner!…read more I came here with my cousin and her friend. I ordered the roasted pork laksa and a mango frappe. The roasted pork laksa came in a huge bowl! It was very delicious! The noodles were just right; not soggy, and not too hard. The flavour of the laksa tasted authentic! It was just the right spice. I wasn't a big fan of the roasted pork. It was very chewy and hard to eat. The mango frappe is a mango smoothie and it was pretty good; however, I don't think it was worth the $6AUD.

They don't really feel all that spacious though, because this place was packed! I took this to be a good sign. The wait staff were snappy and efficient. No messing around. Our meals came out in good time, in huge servings- bowls bigger than your head style. My friends who are frequent travellers to all parts of Asia squealed with delight saying the roti canai (($9.20) "tasted just like Borneo." My kung po chilli chicken ($11.50) was the perfect heat. My friend who ate the prawn noodle soup ($13.50) gave audible sighs of pleasure interspersed with "this is sooooo good" while consuming it. For drinks, I'd recommend the taro milk tea ($3.30). It's light, sweet, milky and compliments most meals fantastically. It's true, they don't have credit card/eftpos facilities, however, there's an ATM in the general area, so there's no troubles. Also, for your information, the bottl-o is just across the road.

Authentic Indonesian food The food is delicious with…read moreauthentic Indonesian flavour, the portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. It's a good spot for a quick lunch but not a place to linger!

The Verdict: Hole-in-the-wall eatery with potential. Will…read morereturn to try out other dishes like oxtail soup. The Context: I woke late, and was stuck having lunch around 2pm, and meeting friends for an early 5:30pm dinner before catching Brian Cox & Robin Ince at Brisbane Convention Centre at 7:30pm. As a result, I considered a smaller feed, which meant I could consider entrees, which opened me up to considering places I don't usually go to. Came across Shalom on Yelp - I've seen the shop many times at Pinelands, and was intrigued by its resilience in the cut-throat Sunnybank food scene despite its unassuming appearance, and decided to try it, as I'm unfamiliar with Indo cruisine (unless you count IndoMie instant noodles). The Vibe: Small store with approx 30 seats in the shop, and maybe 20 seats outside. The restaurant was still nearly full at 2:30pm on Saturday - most of whom seem like Indonesians: Ethic restaurants embraced by its own people always bodes well. The vibe is lively, with discussions and regular laughter from most tables. The music was unassuming (I couldn't remember what it was), and was community radio, as Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk interrupted the music to ask for votes. The Deal: I was eyeing the ox tail soups ($12), then came across the grilled beef ribs ($13) and ordered that. Note that the main meals don't come with rice - that's $1 extra (for a large bowl-worth [6-inch wide and 4-inch tall]). The Feed: The beef ribs come with the bones removed. There's no plating effort to speak of, and the meat isn't off-the-grill hot (the thickest piece wasn't even warm) - it's disconcerting when the $1 rice was the hottest thing on the whole order. Still, the meat is deliciously marinaded - although that could be cos I don't eat the standard Chinese/Malay/Singaporean/Canto/Taiwanese meat-&-rice dishes enough, and this is what they usually taste like. The meat also came with significant amounts of untrimmed fat, which might dissuade others - but was up my alley. The Notes: Outside food and drink seems to be fine - the waitress didn't comment on the bottle of iced tea I brought. EFTPOS minimum $10. Clearly ask for an EFTPOS receipt if required, as their NAB machines somehow can't print copies after cancelling Customer Copy. There's no table service - you have to order and pay at the counter first. I sat around for 5 minutes until I noticed this written on the menu. The takeaway boxes (500ml) are 50c each. If you like to stretch the value of your eat-out meals like I do, I suggest BYO-ing. This isn't just to save 50c - if you have no change, and you can't charge 50c to your card (EFTPOS minimum $10), you have to break a note and end up with shrapnel unnecessarily.
