Total time for a yearly prescription check up and contact exam took 1.5 hours. About 30 minutes of it were waiting in the reception area waiting to see the doctor(Dr. Butler was great. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and to the point with your time). The eye exam process could use some work. Biggest change I would make is - First do the exam to confirm your prescription. Second have you meet with the person to order glasses or contacts. Third dilate your eyes. They dilated my eyes then sent me to meet with the person to order products. You cannot see, your eyes feel weird, it is very difficult to read or buy anything. Then I waited another 20 minutes to see the doctor. This is a big office with many doctors. They are very professional, but plan on 2 hours for a normal visit. read more

I woke up with blurred vision in one eye and they were able to fit me in the same day. With a previous major retinal issue I was very worried but they were very thorough and reassuring. I was there for a little over 2 hours and had to wait for the doctor a bit too long which is why I gave them 4 out of 5 stars overall. The doctor and team were 5 out of 5 stars otherwise. This is a extremely professional eye group with all the best equipment. Dr Codner Moris was extremely efficient for second year in a row, this was due to I damaged one of my two contact lenses and he perfectly updated my eye exam and swiftly had the appt. done in less that 1.5 hours and the hard to order radial? contacts are already ordered and should arrive in 7-10 days. Highly recommend if you have special vision needs and also have vision insurance through your work. Stay away from the cheepo vision places! I'm a 23 yr old male who finally got LASIK surgery done, and am glad I did so with the help of the awesome people here! I was initially attracted to Morris Eye Group because of the very comprehensive website that had a lot of information. I really appreciated that they only do a few procedures per day as opposed to a low cost place that might do 10 or 15. They even worry about the humidity in the room! They take their time and do an initial consultation and a second pre-op visit. If you decide to get this done, make sure that you schedule it during a time when you have a flexible schedule!! The staff is extremely friendly and professional and I enjoyed getting to know them over the 5+ visits. One thing to note is that you might not see the same person each time, due to scheduling or other factors (and I happened to go during the holidays). Regardless, I only have positive feedback about each nurse and doctor that I got to work with. In my opinion, the surgery itself is not the quick simple easy procedure that you read about! I would consider myself a pretty rugged guy, but... it was intense. Ask for twice the vicodin and make sure you get enough numbing drops in both eyes! My right eye went pretty quickly, but my left eye didn't quite get enough numbing drops and it took multiple tries to get suction which left it red and bloodshot for a month afterwards. I had a meeting the next morning and was able to throw away my glasses and contacts, and then drive up to orange county. Two months later now, and I'm having some minor dry eyes in the morning/night. Have perfectly clear vision, better than average actually. I purchased the "lifetime guarantee" insurance which was only an extra 10% in case things ever change. I'm confident that I will not need it any time soon and am very glad to have gotten this procedure done. I write this review reluctantly as there are some decent and ethical people who work here and not fair to paint them with the same brush as the owners who run this place the way they do. They do have all the high tech equipment to diagnose eye issues. And I must say the last time I went the younger female optometrist I saw was NOT pushing for any extra surgeries unlike the previous visit when I saw a man and also one of the proprietors. But the main thrust of the business is VOLUME and upselling. There overhead has to be huge because they seem to have a large number of employees and all tasks are broken down so that maybe only one person does a particular task rather than the staff knowing how to do more than one thing (which would be more efficient and better experience for the patient). If you go because you're in an hmo and HAVE TO - (as I was), you will still end up paying more than had you gone somewhere else, like one of the big chains or Costco etc and just payed cash. I recently decided to try contacts for the first time, and surprise surprise, the insurance covered them but I was charged another $165 for 'education' fee (I found out when I got my insurance Explanation of Benefits). The contacts themselves were about $250. Morris Eye staff said this was a mandatory fee but made it sound like it was because the lenses were a special order upgrade due to my eye shape. However according to the insurance company the fee is actually to instruct you how to use the lenses, handle them etc, as a first time user. I saw someone else go through this, a staff member does it (not a optometrist), and takes a few minutes. This should be included, not an add-on! And this 'class' is only available very early weekday hours (7am, 730am), so if you have a job or other obligation at that hour, you may be in a real pickle. And the glasses they sell there are through the roof expensive. The first time I went a few years back, I got the cheapest frames they had (wire style), and they continually fell apart. the first time it happened, I took them back to Morris and they fixed them, but not without blaming me for causing the problem by mishandling the glasses. And of course I had to leave the glasses with them and wait a week or so to get them back. They came apart again shortly after. Someone recommended I take them to a repair shop in Carlsbad which I did, HotShot Eyewear Repair (awesome place)-- finally the glasses stopped coming apart! And they have stayed intact for two years since in spite of all kinds of dropping and whatever. It had to be very shoddy work at Morris that caused this to happen. I urge you until they (management) changes their greedy short term attitudes to take your business elsewhere if you can, or to lodge a complaint with your insurance carrier (grievance department - they all have them.) Frequent a business who is ethical and that puts the patients ahead of the bottom line. read more

I love Dr. Bodman from the Encinitas office. She's very thorough with my examination. I always feel that my questions are answered with details and reasons for treatments (if needed). This office takes the routine and turns it into a circus act. On top of that, they're way overpriced. They want to charge you for every little things and they aren't upfront about costs. When I called to ask about the cost of an exam what they didn't tell me is that I would also be paying for the consultation and for a contact fitting. I've been wearing contacts for 10 years, I don't need a freaking fitting. Plus they pass you around between two or three people before you even get to see the doctor. I get it, it's a big fancy doctors office. We get that you went to big bad school and you're swindling us blind folk so you can buy a Benz... very dramatic. On top of that, you definitely get the sense that they're trying to fit in as many clients as possible. I've seen less people in a nail salon on a saturday. Plus, I know that my prescription got worse and they barely acknowledge it. I want to see 20/20, not 20/80 so that I come back sooner rather than later to spend more money. Not happening. I hate Wal-Mart, but at this point, they seem like a better choice. read more

I had an annual eye exam at Morris Eye Group as I noticed that recently my vision just isn't as good on some days. I saw Dr Tara Viechnicki, who was quite personable and knows her stuff! She is really good at explaining things and managing expectation. She sent an eyedrops prescription to my pharmacy via e-prescribing so my prescription was ready when I arrived there. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, from my first phone call to the day of my visit. The office is nicely appointed, clean, and welcoming. Frusterated!! It seems like trying to reach the person you need to schedule appointments with or ask questions is never available and going to voice mail and leaving messages doesnt guarantee you a call back. Instead I have to keep calling until I miraculasly reach someone available. My 13 year old son was getting contacts for the first time and we were told we needed to pay $165 for the consultation and that I would be contacted when the temporary contacts come in...6 weeks later...nothing so I had to call in and leave messages and finally reach someone who said "sorry, it should only take a few days but for some reason we lost track of your order" Granted I had already paid for the $165 consultation fee...which seems like a little much Finally the contacts come in and my son and I sit down with the lady behind the desk (not sure if she is an actual eye doctor or?) and then she pretty much looked at me sideways whn I said I woudl sit next to him while he was learning and she told me to sit in the waiting area and watch TV?? Also the only time theyhave appts for this consultation is 7-8am...thats it! The inside of the office is nicely done so I will give them that but my first experiences with this office are not off to a good start. read more

A lot of people had it right - it takes a while to get through a regular eye exam here. You start feeling a little like a crappy Batman villain called "Puffy Eye" waiting in the lobby after getting those drops put in your eye. The dilations here are INTENSE and the staff seems a little overwhelmed. However, they do a good job and do try to move you through as quickly as possible. Everyone's attitude is great and they're apologetic about the wait time and are organized. I love Morris Eye Group!! I recently visited their office and I was blown away with my experience and how updated their facility is. I had been debating getting a new pair of glasses for a while and I was referred to Morris Eye Group. From the beginning, my experience was fast and easy! Parking is free and plentiful. The front desk staff welcomed me with smiles and knew the right questions to ask and answered all of mine. Tess was so patient with me while looking through all the different types of glasses and educating me along the way. I liked how big the office was and clean. I was helped right away with my appointment but i did notice that the waiting room has comfy looking couches, flat screen TV and tons of magazines. I recently moved to LA, but i will continue to drive down to SD for any of my eye care needs! read more

I wrote a rather scathing review of this business back in March 2011, and rightfully so, as the team there definitely dropped the ball when it came to my interaction with the company. However, Dr. Morris, the owner, called me not long ago and was concerned about my negative comments. We spoke for over 30 minutes, and I detailed for him the specifics of my experience at his office. Dr. Morris apologized for my troubles, acknowledged that what happened to me shouldn't have happened, and offered to refund 100% of my out-of-pocket expenses. He also asked that I give them another chance in the future. I applaud Dr. Morris for his integrity and honesty. He didn't have to call me, he also didn't have to refund my money, but he did - and that's quite a stand up thing to do. Kudos, Dr. Morris. I don't know what the situation is at Morris Eye Group now some two years later, but I can assure all readers that Dr. Morris will make things right if they don't go that way the first time around. read more

Dr Butler and Dr Codner (Vista) are great. I can only say wonderful things about the doctors and their support team. However, the optical department in Vista is another horrible story. My first pair of distance glasses took about 5-1/2 weeks to receive. I was told the lab lost the order, they switched labs ... finally arrived. Staff followed up after I called/emailed, but they never initiated the follow up. For my inconvenience, a free pair of glasses. Upon follow up visit with Dr Codner, the prescription was modified and glasses reordered. At this time, I ordered my free pair of glasses for reading only. Only took 16 calendar days this time for the reading glasses to come in. I ordered the new distance glasses when I picked up my reading glasses, these arrived in about 2 weeks. On April 5th I had to have the reading glasses tweaked by Dr Butler. New prescription ordered same day. When did these glasses arrive? May 2nd--nearly 4 weeks later? Why the delay.. they said the lab informed them they didn't pass inspection. One would think that was a good thing, I picked them up--they had me try on--fit was good & I went home (they never had me read anything, closing early and I think they wanted me out). I went home, only to discover that I couldn't read a thing!! I could see better without eye glasses!! I went back the next day to have them read the prescription against the order --- guess what -- the prescription was for distance!! What the &&%#!! They offered to redo the glasses -- I declined, I couldn't wait another 4 weeks. I took the glasses & prescription around the corner to S&P Optical on Hacienda in Vista. Dropped them off late Friday afternoon & picked them up Wednesday afternoon --3 business days later!! WOW, great service from S&P Optical. Only $30 for lens replacement--great price, service & turnaround time. I highly recommend the doctors at Morris Eye Group, but NEVER EVER use the on-site optical group!! If I could do no stars or negative stars, I would. I waited almost an hour and a half to see the doctor only to have her spend three minutes with me. I had them make my lenses, which cost 700$. Yup $700 for just lenses. I asked for computer glasses. When they came in, the prescription was for my long distance and not computer. The eye center was off on the left eye. I had to tilt my head to see correctly. They remade them. Again, I asked for computer glasses and asked how they figured the computer range. The take your reading and divide by two. I asked specifically for them to test my computer range. They stated it was a rule and wouldn't change the way they are made. Well, you guessed it! They are wrong again! I just asked for my money back and I would go get them made from someone else. Now they tell me they are going to customize my prescription. Isn't that the entire point of going to an optimist? This place is absolutely horrible in every way. Make a different choice!!!!! read more

Love the doctor but 2 hour vision appointments are ridiculous. I have scheduled 7am apts and it still takes this long. You sit in the lobby after every test. This office stagers apts.....it's like a production line that's how they make money. Per Scripps doctor, they have received many complaints about this office.
