Passing thru on highway from stargazing at Goat Mountain. Pulled in bec there were lots of cars in lot and we totally love local places. It's 8 am and we are famished...the biscuits are made on premises...they were great...my friend got the biscuits and gravy, big thumbs up. I had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and shredded potatoes...it was meh but made better slatheted in hot sauce and ketchup...the downside was the potato, it was ice cold-to-lukewarm and barely fried, had a dusty taste, needed crisping up and definitely needed butter...i should have sent it back, but too hungry and i hate to complain...skip the potatoes...the eggs were too firm.....but hey, the coffee was good, nice and strong, so all is forgiven. I got a biscuit with my order, which was great in a thick doughy way, was about the size of a cupcake. I loved the ambiance, there's a quirky horseshoe table for singles to sit at, a sort of counter much like in a diner and cute birdhouses hanging from the ceiling...and there were nostalgic framed pics of the area back when...cool. The great coffee, lovely attentive friendly service, and those big biscuits gave this place 4 stars. read more

Much in need of food after a Josua Tree hike, we drove by this little place and peeked at the yelp reviews because the parking lot was full. So glad we stopped! It's very cute and clean. Nice clean bathrooms too (if the bathrooms aren't clean question the cleanliness of the kitchen) Staff was sweet, efficient and quick. Good variety on menu. Sad that we missed the breakfast cutoff, but we enjoyed our lunch selections. A tuna salad and a tuna melt. Both very tasty! Next hike we will plan to stop in again. Hopefully in time for breakfast. read more

When you eat at the Morongo Valley Cafe, you never know who will be sitting near your table (Aquaman himself has been spotted eating here). Great tasting food, hearty portions and friendly staff. The main dining room is small... perhaps tiny... but it's cozy, and this restaurant is truly a favorite of the locals. I chose to sit at the small counter, which is in the center of the small room. Since Morongo Valley Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch only, they are truly serious about breakfast, and their menu features a vast array of breakfast selections. After seriously scanning the menu, I zeroed in on the Grilled Span and Eggs option... Holy Toledo! I think I've died and gone to heaven! Spam and eggs, hash brown potatoes, sourdough toast, along with a bottomless cup of coffee. Life, and breakfast are good, in Morongo Valley. How often in California do you get treated to perfectly grilled Spam for breakfast! The Span was perfectly grilled, and hit the spot, along with the potatoes, eggs and toast, which were also perfect. I rate this restaurant a solid four stars, as it's cozy and "cute," the staff is friendly, the breakfast menu is extensive, and the Spam and eggs are "over the top" wonderful! When you're visiting beautiful Morongo Valley, and you're in the mood for great food, and friendly people, I recommend a visit to The Morongo Valley Cafe. BEWARE OF THE CHICKEN FRIED STEAK!!!! So my husband and I live in Moreno Valley, but decided to take a spontaneous drive to the desert. I looked up local places to eat breakfast and landed on this place. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. My husband ordered the country fried steak. Unfortunately, the waitress entered corn beef hash. So, we had to send it back. Looking back on this, we should have kept it. When we received the country fried steak, we realized that it was not country fried steak (usually battered and Deep fried), it was hamburger meat doused in gravy. It was NASTY!!! When I told the waitress this, she said that that's what their locals like. If this is the case, the locals obviously have never had real country fried steak before. I do believe that the waiters should give a disclaimer to anyone who orders this. I ate my potatoes and eggs though. read more
