I needed ministorage to store my apartment stuff for a few weeks while I found a new place.
I also needed a moving truck!
A couple different searches brought up Morningstar and one of their competitor's on Cox Road (a company I have used about 6 years ago.) I was leaning towards the competitor that also offered a free moving truck rental with move in.
I filled out the forms for both companies. (this was important)
Morningstar's form was what you see is what you get and it was simple.
The competitor form started simple, then grew into 4-5 sections. I was tempted to give up and skip theirs. Plus, they had a comment on their site that indicated they could not guarantee that a moving truck would even be available.
Within a couple minutes of submitting the form (submitted in the morning, maybe around 8am or so), Karleen from Morningstar was calling me to confirm and setup a time for me to get the rental truck to lock it in. She was wonderful and I was sold!
(I never heard back from the competitor.)
Picking up the truck went great, got moved in fine as well. the storage unit seemed very new and clean.
I served in the military and worked as an accountant. I always believe there is room for improvement and also like transparency when I can get it.
The next couple things were not deal breakers and is not too different from what I have found elsewhere...
Insurance fee
The site didn't mention it, but they do require insurance which cost an extra $9 per month.
Locks & one time fee
They use a special lock insert, so purchasing a lock is also required. Plus there is a $25 fee to get going.
All totaled up the $99 per month rental deal (great rate) cost about $151 to move in for the first month, and will be about $108 per month(with the $9 monthly insurance).
I'd like to see the fees spelled out on the web more clearly. (I am a web developer these days, and the website was very well done and also one of the reasons that I chose to work with them.)
Awesome Manager
Can't emphasize enough how Karleen's helpfulness was just awesome. I had some friends helping me move and she even gave us some bottles of water as we were unloading! :) :) :) read more
