Courgette Salad
Joanna C.

Came here for dinner with two friends a couple Sundays ago and had a great time. Morito is a smaller spot so make sure to make reservations ahead of time! We were pretty hungry and per usual, over-ordered! My favorite dishes were the Beetroot Borani, Octopus, Gazpacho, and Crispy Aubergine. I'd never had Beetroot Borani before, but I'm definitely going to have more of it in the future! Delicious beets with a hummus-like texture featuring lots of goat cheese. Make sure to order pita to dip with it. The octopus was perfectly cooked and refreshing. The Gazpacho was surprisingly delicious! Smooth and creamy, and refreshing on a warm summer date. The Crispy Aubergine was fried and coated in this amazing whipped feta and date molasses sauce, yum!!! It would've been better had it been a little less fried, but I suppose then it wouldn't have been crispy. We also had the Hummus, Slow Roasted Pork Belly, and Courgette Salad. The hummus was tasty. The Slow Roasted Pork Belly was plentiful in quantity, but I didn't like the tangy flavor as much. it wasn't bad, just not my favorite. I'd pass on the Courgette Salad. It felt a bit oily and was bland relative to everything else we ordered. Service was fast and friendly! Even though it's a small place, they didn't rush us at all. Also, get the Mint Tea! They make it fresh so you'll get the mint leaves in there and it is delicious!

Cute tapas place and great date spot for couples and double dating! Make sure you have a reservation as the place isn't very big. The first time we came here, we didn't have reservations and they weren't able to seat us. So we came back the following week, and had a great experience here. The menu isn't fixed so you can be pleasantly surprised each time. Our favorite on this visit was by far the lamb chops. Order them first because they take the longest to cook, and it's well worth the wait!

Had dinner with a friend here last Wednesday. Whilst the tapas are expensive -£9!! or so- and we commiserated how we can get the same items in Spain for less than half of that price, we had to admit the quality was excellent. I had the pumpkin pisto, aubergine with honey and bacalao croquetas and was very impressed with the portion sizes as well, especially the aubergine. My friend also was impressed with the plate size of her patatas bravas. Service was quick and efficient. We sat at the bar. I'm also subtracting a star bc the wine "carafe" was really overpriced. Honestly I've seen MUCH bigger carafes in other places- this was barely two glasses a person. For £14! It's a better deal to get a single glass. Not a bad dry white wine but not the best I've had.

Huevos al Plato (Baked Eggs) with Chorizo; Sourdough Flatbread; Breakfast Tea

Well worth the 45 minute walk in the cold to Exmouth Market. Came here at the advice of a friend who came here in the past, but I could only make it for breakfast rather than their better-known tapas. Got the Huevos al Plato, and the warm tomatoes and eggs really hit the spot after a long walk through the cold. Highlight was the za'atar-dusted sourdough flatbread; I could've eaten another two or three servings of that. Staff was friendly--particularly the cook--though the waitress seemed like she didn't know all the ingredients and had to check for herself when I asked. Happy that I came here, and I hope I'll be able to come for their tapas in the future.

Great place! Will need to go back to try more plates and at some point would like to try Moro, where it all started. It's been in my bookmarks for and while so when meeting a friend for dinner in the area, it was easy to pick this from others. Of everything I tried, definitely the lamb and aubergine was the best. I also got a seasonal beetroot and rhubarb salad. Creative and tangy. My friend got the puntillitas. Good by English standards but the cuttlefish could have been juicer in my opinion. Not sure if they over fried or if the fish was not as good as in Spain. Finally, the tender stem broccoli with anchovy sauce and peanuts was also very good. Get the olives for snacking: I think they had been home preserved! A good option in the area, would have loved to see a bit more fish/lighter options on the menu and most of it was fried!

steamed mussels with turkish pepper paste and bulgur

Morito's 4th Annual Seafood Festival runs throughout the week to bring the taste of the sea to London with their sherry and seafood pairing. Seafood has been the core at Morito's heart and I have been a fan of Morito's cookbook. The recipes that I have tried have made regular appearances at large dinner parties, as well as a flair of elegance for a romantic dinner for two for Mr L and myself. I could not be more than excited when my friend took me on this special seafood menu paired with sherry! The sherry started off with a very dry and light. Throughout the meal, it got progressively darker in colour and taste, sweeter. Manzanilla Gabriela, Sanchez Ayala mojama & ajo blanco pastirma cured fish & pickles smoked anchovy & brown butter montadito I would not want to drink the Manzanilla Gabriela alone because the dryness is a little rough. In fact, the first sip took me by surprised at how dry the sherry was. However, with the fish dishes - cured, pickled and smoked - the edge of the roughness was taken away. It seemed well rounded. The mojama and ajo blanco was very good and well seasoned. While the traditional ajo blanco is served with grapes or melon, I think that the mojama (salt cured tuna) was just as pleasant, if not much better. Fino en rama, Gonzalez Byass pulpo a la gallega steamed mussels with turkish pepper paste and bulgur - the good thing about mussels is that they are simply delicious and easy to cook. You can hardly go wrong unless they are gritty and unfortunately mine were gritty. The fino en rama was a little smoother and rounder compared to the first glass. It was served chilled in a frosted glass. Now, was that just the difference that it gave? Would the Manzanilla Gabriela be just as good if it was chilled? So, I brought it up to room temperature to test it but then later forgot all about it because dessert was served. Oloroso, el Maestro Sierra, 15 anos whole roast fish with saffron, honey and sweet vinegar, fennel rice and shellfish aioli - the fish was nicely roasted. It was not as sweet as the menu reads with honey and sweet vinegar. In fact, it tasted really quite light and was overpowered by the white fish. The rice, when you bite it was tough and when you sink your teeth into the centre, it was floury. A definite sign that it was undercooked, not al dente as they probably would have liked it. I think the shellfish aioli just salvaged it. Yup, a good dollop with it and undercooked rice could even be forgiven. The Oloroso itself was quite dense and sweet. It is a classic situation where I prefer the Oloroso on its own and the fish dish on its own, just not together. What went very nice with it was with the oily aioli. It brought everything all together. So, in the presence of the aioli, it worked. Pedro Ximenez, El Maestro Sierra malaga raisin ice-cream - with the generous amount of Pedro Ximenez, I was surprised that the ice-cream still had ice crystals in it. A cold ice-cream with a warmth of that Pedro Ximenez made me strong enough to take on the windy London by night. I felt it could have been a more educative and fulfilled evening if we were given more information about the sherry or why they had chosen it rather than only reiterating the name and walking away hastily. If it was solely based on this seafood menu as their fanfare, I am not sure that I was as impressed by the restaurannt I was cooking from Morito's cookbook. Overall, the quality of the food was good. The servings of the sherry was also very generous. But I still would prefer to make a concluded opinion about Morito after I had a proper dinner. At £55.00 I felt it was a little dear. And I'd certainly like to be seated more comfortably instead of high stool bar seats.

Amazing tapas bar! Took our chances and tried to get a table at 8 pm on a Saturday at this tiny tapas bar in Exmouth Market. We had about 1 hour wait as they don't take bookings, which we spent people-watching on the bench outside with a Negroni. Tables are kept for groups, so if there's 2 of you, you'll be seated at the bar. Which is nice too as you'll get a view of the kitchen. As it was so busy, the staff was a little stressed running around but they tried to serve us as best they could. We asked for some recommendations and then ordered away. We definitely over-ordered but I'm so glad we did because we ate some seriously fantastic food that night. The menu changes daily and from the 6 dishes we ordered, my favorite was the "crispy aubergine, whipped feta & date molasses". The aubergine is fried crispy, but so very delicately so it's not greasy at all. Combined with the salty feta and the sweet date molasses - just wow. So, so good. A must for the table and easy to share. The charred cauliflower, green tahini & toasted seed dukkah was a really nice side dish, although we didn't pick up much of the tahini. Still good though. The cod with garlic potatoes wasn't my favourite, but my dinner date loved it. I preferred the mackarel with asparagus which had a great citrusy sauce with it. My friend, who eats meat, had the spiced lamb, aubergine, pomegranate & pine nuts. Too full to even get through 1/4 of it, took it home to finish (lucky gal). What a pretty dish. To finish our meal we had the grilled tetilla cheese, mebrillo & walnuts. This is so rich and so satisfying. Hot melting cheese... could only eat a little as we were stuffed but it was amazing. Morito was so worth the wait, we were both really impressed by their dishes! Reasonable prices too, especially if you're a large group sharing dishes. Would definitely come back, probably not on a Saturday though.

One of my top 3 most favorite restaurant in London!!!... so far! Came on Saturday at a little bit past 6pm. Only 4 seats at the bar were available.(There are 5 tables for 4 and around 17 seats at the bar). They don't take reservation. So you couldn't possibly take a seat depending on the time. But it's a Spanish tapas and some diners come and leaves quickly. A bit cramped, noisy and bustling with people so we had to talk loud. The stools we sat on were not really comfortable.... But never mind!!! All these could change into no problems once you taste their food!! Ordered: iberico bellota/puntillitas/beetroot borani,feta,dill&wallnuts/cod croquetas/mint pea & yoghurt soup/spiced lamb, aubergine, pomegranate & pine nuts The plate was spotless by the end of the meal! Many of their dishes were with a creative modern twist. Not just simple at all. So you could enjoy the taste never being bored with that. A must-try of the above are "cod croquetas","beetroot "spiced lamb"!!! They were each bursting with flavor and had a taste I'd never eaten. I'd definitely come here soon and regularly. wanna try all menu they have ; )

Located in Exmouth market is Morito, a popular tiny tapas bar next to its sister restaurant Moro. We managed to get a table straight away even on a Friday night as a World Cup football match had only just finished, usually you should expect to wait for up to an hour from joining the waiting list for a table or space at the bar. The menu changes regularly, we ordered the following: Salt cod croquetas £4.50 Scallops with samphire & pickled cucumber £9.50 Spiced lamb aubergine yoghurt £7 Slow roasted Pork belly cumin & lemon £7 Chiperones - baby squid £8.50 Avocado quails eggs & mojama £6.50 Crispy aubergines, whipped feta & date molasses £4.50 My favourite dishes were the spiced lamb & aubergine yoghurt and the crispy aubergines. My dining companions especially enjoyed the avocado & quails eggs, although I thought this dish was just average. The scallops dish was disappointing, usually I am partial to seafood particularly scallops but this dish was not well executed and was cold by the time it reached our table. Pricing at moritos is competitive, lower than the various tapas bars in soho. If you prefer a sit down meal in a more comfortable setting and do not mind paying more then you are better off dining next door at Moro where you can make advance bookings.

I came back from Barcelona vacation recently and really just craved more tapas. Morito is right down the street from my work so I thought I would give it a try. Me and my partner went quite early, around 6:30, and can only sit at the bar because the tables were saved for bigger parties. You can watch the chefs cook your food tho. The service was definitely friendly and attentive. I thought the price was fair but maybe Im just getting use to London now? While the food was definitely not just Spanish - they were all delicious. The lamb chops actually tasted exactly the same as Uyghur-style lamb skewers (the version without sichuan pepper), something I desperately missed and did not expect. The lamb and the pork belly were both cooked just right, and a combination of juicy fatness & meat - so heads up to those who only want lean meat. The refreshing cocktails were much needed during the heat wave. Am definitely coming back again!

This is it , the best #tapas in #London! I popped in here right round 6 pm cuz 1. I didn't have lunch and hungry! 2. They don't take reservations. The menu changes daily according to season and what's available. The vibe is friendly and casual. Perfect for friends catching up or a low key second day. My favorite tonight is the spiced lamb with aubergine purée (kinda like #babaganoush texture) pomegranate and pinenuts - it is light and flavorful. The #octopus with #tomatoes and #garlic rusk was perfect texture and #scrumptious. Oh and don't get me started with the pork secreto. Yup, the "pork secret" - iberico porkshoulder. It is true to its name - the #bestkeptsecret of #Spain ! It is #tender and hint of #smoky. This is the first time I have it and won't be the last! To finish strong we got the slow roasted #pork belly in mojo verde. Too fatty to my liking but hey, "fat is the new candy" I was told. Cherry on top, nothing on the menu costs more than £10 ;). Wines are mostly below £7. Come early as they don't take reservations. Ps place is small don't come with a group more than 4.

I prefer the more relaxed informal vibe of little sister tapas bar Morito to Moro (next door). They are both on a charming Exmouth Market street, bustling full of cute shops and great world eats. From great pizza, brunch, Portuguese to good pubs. Firstly I had a sensational tapas dish from Morito Tapas. Beetroot, feta, dill & walnuts. Think this one is a game changer from the salad and veg menu. May have to create this one at home. Tastebuds going Lady Gaga over these combinations. I also had some superb dishes that included potato bravas, jamon croquettes, pork belly, tortilla, bocadillo and classic tomato bread. All excellent. Very authentic and tasty. I sat at the bar on stools. Not the most comfortable but when the food is this good I don't mind. I think most best tapas places are best enjoyed at the bar anyway. Thumbs up all round.

Qype User (Charli…)

I really like Sam & Sam Clarks' food, owning two of their cookbooks but this was the first time I visited one of their restaurants. I found a few of a dishes to be similar (but not as well made) as Barrafina's. Specifically the shrimp, the clams and the squid. The maitre 'd was on a serious power trip that night. Being short and uncourteous, despite us being 3 girls, trying to smile and get him to shake off the black cloud over his head! That was a real mood killer and there is NO REASON to ever be rude to people who just want to enjoy their night out. The food is good but it is a very cramped space and I would not return, simply because there are plenty of other places in London that have miles better service! (Like Barrafina!)

Hey initially brought a drinks menu to us when we are waiting in the queue but they didn't come to take our order until we got our table so I don't see the point. We ordered a wine and a beer. Wine tasted worse than most wine we have in other restaurants and the beer is with a thick foam and small glass.. The food is alright but with the service and portion, I didn't think we get our money's worth.

I will say that the app - City Mapper - is worth installing on your phone. Oh, but when you're travelling out of the US, you don't want to pay the high roaming charges. Then I say, go to the "airalo" website and see if what they offer might meet your needs, and if it does, install it too. Most newer phones allow you to install electronic SIMs. If you follow the instructions very carefully, you can set your phone up to use this second line for local data access and that will allow City Mapper to run for you while you roam around. I know that I'm sounding like a commercial but that's how much I liked using the app. While I didn't always know which direction I was facing, by watching the app as I moved, I could see if I was heading toward or away from my target. Okay, back to Jose. We walked by this place several times, both during the day and at night. They always had guests, especially at night when the crowd seemed to spill out of the restaurant to the outside tables and surrounding area. People looked happy as they indulged in their food and wine. We stopped once and read the menu. It's quite small and written on a chalkboard. It looks like every now and then, they erase something and write something else up. Having been to Barcelona, we weren't particularly impressed with the menu and didn't plan on dining there. Until I read the reviews. And looked at their website and learned about Jose Pizzaro, chef, owner of six restaurants in London and one in Abu Dhabi, author of six cookbooks, a regular on BBC cooking shows AND that the Tapas Bar Jose is mentioned as a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide. Service was wonderful. It was cool watching Chef prepare our food. The Pan con Tomate was so simple and yet so delicious. A slice of bread, toasted, rubbed with garlic, rubbed roughly with a ripe tomato, slightly salted and drizzled with olive oil. I could eat that every single day and LOSE WEIGHT. The Bermondsey Bomba was like a giant Porto Bakery (forgive me Jose) Potato Ball with more meat in a spicy sauce placed on top of a bed of aioli with a dollop of seasoned tomato paste on top. I could eat these every single day and GAIN WEIGHT. The Boquerones were heavenly. The Clams with Garlic and Parsley, devine. And the Patatas Bravas...come on man, they're just potatoes! Crispy on the outside, soft and warming on the inside. Once again, the aioli and seasoned tomato paste just brings it all together. Service was warm and friendly. They were kind enough to let us order in rounds so we could gauge how much to order. Honestly, we had five dishes and were stuffed. Pictures to follow.

I'm a big fan of tapas, and Camino did not disappoint. There are several locations across London, and this one is large, lively, and full of great energy -- the kind of place that immediately puts you in a good mood. We started with calamari and Iberico ham croquetas, both absolute perfection -- crisp on the outside and creamy inside. The patatas bravas were outstanding as well, with just the right balance of spice and crunch. We also shared the rib-eye steak, dry-aged for 21 days and seasoned with rosemary and pepper, served alongside confit piquillo peppers and a fresh salad. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The service was excellent -- friendly, efficient, and perfectly timed -- and the food arrived at a relaxed, steady pace. If you're looking for vibrant Spanish food in London, Camino is a terrific choice. With several locations around the city, there's probably one not far from you.

In any case, I think the quote still works perfectly when referring to Camino's creations. Camino had some smash hits, some items that were just "ok", and service that left a bit to be desired, but wasn't horrible. The service: We asked our server many questions about the menu and he didn't have an answer for any of them. He didn't seem to have much knowledge about the items, nor about how they were prepared or how they tasted. He was attentive, but mostly just for clearing plates and keeping our water carafe filled. We ended up just ordering things and hoping for the best. Our favorite menu items: --Presa Iberica £11.75 - "Our signature shoulder of Ibérico pig served medium rare, with creamy Ibérico rice." The rice was creamy and luxurious. The pork was savory and juicy. This plate is a winner! --Escalivada £6.75 - "Grilled sourdough bread with roasted aubergine, red pepper and onion." We were so nicely surprised by these veggie toasts! They were extremely flavorful and unique! --Baby Squid £7.50 - "Crispy squid with alioli and lemon." These fried morsels weren't greasy at all, and the alioli was a perfect sauce to compliment it's flavor. We also had: --Payoyo £5.75 - "Cured goats' cheese with fig and almond slice." --Charcuteria Platter £6.75 - "Selection of premium Spanish sliced cured sausages." --Olives (comlimentary) - "marinated in lemon and rosemary." Don't miss: Maeloc 4% £4.80 - "Galician strawberry cider. Gluten-free and a dry finish." --This was so crisp and delicious!! Definitely worth a stop during a busy day of sightseeing. It's also fairly near Shakespeare's Globe!

RESTAURANT - Cigala - Spanish - Bloomsbury…read more  Date of Visit: 15.11.17 Time: 3.30pm   Review:    I have never tried Spanish cuisine so I was looking forward to my visit to Cigala. The idea of having authentic Spanish food and tapas sounded perfect. I love food, so being able to try multiple dishes is like heaven to me. I arrived by cab and since Cigala is in Bloomsbury it was only a short trip from my Regent Street office. My friend joined me arriving via public transport. The restaurant is located near to Holborn and Russell Square tube stations so it is an easy place to get to. The entrance to Cigala can be found on the corner of Lamb's Conduit Street and Rugby Street. The area has a delightful village feel. Lamb's Conduit Street is partially pedestrianised with fascinating shops and cafes. Cigala is popular with the legal profession, media and many celebrities have made it their haunt. It is about conviviality and not really about fine dining. My review will reflect this in that I don't expect the same criteria.    The main dining area on street level has a large floor area and open kitchen and a lot of covers. There is also outside space with tables and chairs where huge pans of paella are served during the summer months. There are space heaters so no one gets cold.   Inside the lighting is not too bright or dim but just right and I noted an AC unit by the kitchen, so for those who may want to visit during the summer period you get the best of both worlds I would say.    Another feature I noted which you don't see much of are the number of coat hooks dotted around which makes life a little easier.  Cigala also has a private room downstairs which is at the moment being redecorated and should be completed by the time you read this in time for the festive season and those office Christmas parties.   But the main purpose of the review is the food, so take a look further down to see what we had and our thoughts. I understand that you can get parked relatively easily in the vicinity after 6pm.   Decor & Lighting: Stripped down because chef proprietor Jake Hodges believes the food should do the talking. Cigala offers basic comforts and pleasant lighting.   Ambience & Acoustics:  The location is quiet and there's no background music. As we attended during the setup time I cannot really comment on the noise levels during a normal lunch or dinner setting.    We had the following:    Food:    Croquetas de setas (Mushroom Croquettes) - We both felt the croquettes were a bit mushy though the batter is light. You do get three pieces however. I recently had cod croquettes in a private members club in Piccadilly so maybe I was a bit spoilt due to that.    Pinchito de pollo (Grilled marinated chicken kebab)- The chicken was moist and very well-seasoned and served with a fresh salad. The dish was cooked well and very well marinated. I would definitely have had two of these easily as you are served just one skewer.    Chorizo al la brasa (Homemade Chorizo with fried breadcrumb base) - Two small sausage shaped Chorizo had a strong meaty and spicy flavour but I was happy with this as the base of breadcrumbs really complemented the heavier meaty and spicy taste very well and I would recommend this along with the Chicken kebab.    Gambas al ajillo (Prawns in olive oil and garlic) - My friend had this dish which arrived in a lot of oil and the flavour of garlic was overpowering which did not appeal to her.   Sardinas a la plancha (Grilled Sardines with Garlic and Parsley) - Another dish my friend had and she mentioned it was nicely cooked and tender, but very salty.   Patatas bravas (Deep fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce) -  The potatoes themselves were cooked well with a crispy and crunchy outside and soft centre. With a nice tomato sauce, the only thing I would say is to include more sauce and less salt.  Dessert:   Tarta de Santiago (Almond Tarte with Ice Cream)-  The texture was a little confusing as it tasted like a dense and dry muffin. It was served with a custard rather than the advertised ice cream. It was not too rich but had a hard crust which made it slightly difficult to cut.    Arroz con leche (Rice Pudding) - My friend had this dish and her thoughts were that the rice was over cooked or perhaps due to the temperature of the dish (cold) it tasted very hard. However I understand this is how it is served in Spain.   Bill / Cost: In this case we were invited by the restaurant owners to come along and enjoy a meal on them and they covered the bill. Typically, however without alcohol we would have had to pay around £30 per head with soft drinks but they also have an express lu
