I took my 45 year old Kenmore sewing machine in for repair. John Free, the owner, was very helpful. I decided not to invest any money in repairing such an old machine, so John showed me a new machine. Oh my, how machines have changed in the last 45 years! One note: while the address is correct, there is no signage that says you're there. Enter in through the ProSource door, and the guys there will direct you. I wish I could give Mr. John Free a 20 star review! He is so knowledgeable about his product he sales. I went in to buy a sewing machine and not really knowing what I wanted, there were a least 7 machines set up to look at and try. He explained all of them to me of what each one would do. I ended up buying Elena 580. When I purchased my machine he told me that I could come in for lessons on how to use my sewing machine. After, using my machine for a project I started another project but the thread started doing odd things. I phoned him and he walked me thru to troubleshoot the problem. Yesterday I went into learn different things the Elna 580 does, so excited to play with my machine this morning. I was so excited last evening that I could barely sleep. I had owned 2 singer sewing machine in the past and after they both needed repair which cost me over $100.00 they didn't work right. I just couldn't justify putting more money into something that wouldn't work properly. So, if you want someone knowledgeable and stands behind his sewing machines go see John Free. I can't say enough about the service I received! After being told at Judy's Sewing in Santa Cruz that my Elna 5-thread serger was not repairable, I looked up an Elna dealership and found this remarkable place. My machine was fixed and guaranteed! What really galls me is, I was told by Judy's tech that not only was it a cheap machine, which it certainly is not, but he would recycle it for me so I wouldn't have to pick it up! What a con! I have an old Pfaff machine which I've been using for 20+ years. It started making a squeaking noise that I could not find the source for. Since I had never had the machine serviced, I thought it could probably do with a tune-up. John fixed the squeak but also made it run like butter. It's even quieter than I could imagine. Take this for what it is, a quick stop in. The girl working knew almost nothing about the machines for sale or services offered. Unfortunate for the owner who I'm sure is very knowledgable. What a wonderful find this is!! John has worked miracles when my machine has gone crazy. In fact, I think he's saved it's life from being thrown out of a window a couple of times! Not only is he a sewing machine wizard, he and his staff are kind and professional. And the price? Always reasonable!! Not only that, he grants a 6 month warranty on his repairs. I recently had a problem with my Pfaff quilting machine that had been repaired within that time frame. We drove 2 1/2 hours to have 3 machines serviced at this shop. John fixed two featherweights on the spot and my Elna quilting queen needed serviced and the thread cutter repaired. So it stayed. Attempted to use my Singer Futura Embroidery Machine today - turned it on and NOTHING. (ugh)....Power was on but so were every red light on the machine...not a good sign. Since I teach clothing class, I have plenty of machines to service and have come to know John Free, shop owner, very well over the years. He has always been very generous with his time, making sure that I understand whatever I'm seeking help with. He even spent time with one of my advanced students that I brought in for training on the serger. If a repair is a quick fix, he will often do it on the spot for me so that I don't have to leave it and have a machine short for my class. There's a huge difference between this kind of service and the zero help and service you would get buying a machine at Wal Mart! I highly recommend to all my students, and now fellow yelppers, to purchase their sewing machines through More than Sewing, and to bring the machines to John for service and repair. Terrible customer service. The lady working there was the least bit helpful and snobby. First off, she basically said they didn't have the time to take on my project and would get back with me via email with in two to three weeks to let me know. I needed curtains and reupholstering. After giving her my upholstery project measurements, I asked her if she could at least give me an idea of how much fabric I should order (I had my own source I was ordering it from and it was on sale) so I could get it now. She avoided answering my question and when asked again she said she didn't know and would get back with me in three weeks. Told me I should find someone else to take on my project. I then asked for a referral and once again she said no, not really, and that I'd have to look around. Left feeling like they could care less about offering me any service and me providing them with business. read more
