Maybe you followed me to this review from my review of "Rookies" in Huntley? Glad you did! My experience here was night and day versus that experience at "Rookies".
So my kids and I left "Rookies" looking for somewhere to go nearby. I didnt want to have to drive up to Randall Road to go somewhere, and Lord knows we could use REAL restaurants on IL-47 other than the fast food places.
So it hit me..."What's that place I've seen when I get off of I-90 every now and then when I need to swing by Walmart on the way home? The one where the old Chevy dealership used to be?"
"More Brewing Company."
So I hung a right on IL-47 and headed down that way.
There were a LOT of cars in the parking lot, so I was afraid we wouldn't get a table at just after 5:30 on Saturday. Grabbed a spot on the east side of the building and went in.
This place (being an old car dealership and service center) is big. There is plenty of seating inside, and we were promptly seated.
Within 2 minutes (which is supposed to be industry standard), our server arrived with a carafe of water and three glasses. Pleasant and smiling, she asked if we wanted anything to drink. Not knowing what options for the kids, I inquired and she listed them off. Ordered the kids fruit punch (turns out it was "Honesty Kids Organic Fruit Punch" in a foil pouch, which is a much better offering than Hi-C).
I asked for a menu, and she alerted me to the barcode to scan to access menu on a device. Now, personally I hate this. I don't like having to read a menu on my phone (I would never have a Kindle, either), so I asked for a "real menu". She acknowledged and brought one right away.
They don't have a ton of items on the menu (maybe 8 appetizers, a few salads, and 8 entrees) , so I assumed it was a limited menu because of possible staffing issues (because people refuse to go back to work so they can get their extended unemployment benefits). I asked about this later, and she said it was their standard menu..."We are a brewery that also sells food." Got it. I felt bad afterwards because, in retrospect, I think my question came off insulting. I'm sorry!!!
Anyhow, the kids got the sliders from the appetizer menu (house sauce on the side), and I ordered Chili and the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich (with the Truffle Fries for $2 more). We also got the Nachos with steak.
The nachos were AMAZING. Smothered in beer cheese sauce, topped with refried black bean, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, chopped green onion, crema, steak. We gobbled it up. My daughter was still talking about the cheese sauce last night.
Entrees came out just as we were finishing the nachos. Asked for ketchup for the kids' burgers, promptly arrived.
The kids loved the burgers. My 7 year old ate all 3 sliders, and my daughter ate 2 (and took 1 home).
The chili was wonderful. Chunky bits of meat, well rounded flavors. Could have been a bit hotter, though.
The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich was alright. Not a home run. Lightky dressed with cole slaw, could have used a bit more. It was a bit overcooked...not dry, but not juicy either. Somewhere in between. The seasoning tasted more like a blackening spice than what you would expect from authentic Nashvile hot chicken (as in authentic from Nashville, not KFC). If they were to rename this Blackened Chicken Sandwich and cook it just a touch less, I would say it would be perfect. The Truffle Fries were very good, though I'm not sure if they are worth a $2 upcharge (a $1 upcharge is probably more worth it).
The service was great. She was attentive to our needs, bringing a new carafe of water as we finished our first. There were no lulls, and she was quite friendly. She deserved the +20% gratuity I left.
The atmosphere is really cool. Spacious and open. They left the garage doors in place from the dealership. From our table in the bar area, we could see the beer operation in the back. It was not loud in there at all. This is definitely a place for families, date night, after work drinks, what have you.
I did not try a beer because I don't drink and drive with my kids in the car. I will try one another time.
Overall, a wonderful first time visit. Just a few recommendations (menus and chicken sandwich / truffle fries upcharge).
So, to wrap it up...SKIP "ROOKIES" AND BRING THE FAMILY TO "MORE BREWING COMPANY " INSTEAD!!! read more
