Kudos to Mateen for his customer service and communications! I have an 18 year old Toyota suv (year 2006) that I've changed my own oil and oil filter the last 10+ years. Never hit a problem until today. The old oil filet was so stuck on the engine that the tools I had on hand warped the filter canister, and I couldn't get it out! Panicked, I called around auto shops my home, and Mateen gave me the confidence he can resolve the issue after he listened to my explanation. He's available right away. After filling up my engine with fresh oil, drove down to Moraga Auto Care Solution, Mateen got my stuck filter canister out in 5 min. He quickly put on my new filter and made sure all engine oil was cleaned up under my car! Price he asked for this emergency was also very reasonable and fair! This review is for the gas station/convenience store portion of the business, since it seems the auto service portion is no more. Over the past four years I've been spending about $40 to 60 a week here for my business. I like that I get a cash discount for gas. However, in early December, they decided they wanted to be in the junk food business, and enlarged the convenience store space to stock every kind of garbage food and drink available.. This means the place is sometimes swarming with grade school kids getting their sugar fix. Last week I had to work my way around 7 or 8 kids just to pay cash for my gas. This also means it's becoming a hangout for pre-teens and teens, none of whom are masked. And the teens behind the register aren't masked, either, and they rarely say "thank you" after I fork over my $40. I'll be doing my gas purchases down the block from now on. read more

One of the workers from Moraga Auto Care offered to move the van to their repair shop to take a look. The owner gave my relative an estimate of $2,040 because he said that the cooling fan needed to be replaced in order to be able to check any damage to the engine. Feeling that the price was way too much, my relative decided to pay the "diagnostic fee" about $160 and had the vehicle towed to a different auto repair shop for a second evaluation. The second vehicle evaluation revealed that there was nothing wrong with the cooling fan, nor the engine. There was a switch that needed to be replace to make the cooling fan run properly as the sensor was not working, the cost to repair it including parts and labor was $300. The owner of Moraga Auto Care was rude and visibly bothered that the vehicle was not being repaired at his shop. When my relative who is undergoing treatment for cancer asked the owner if she could to use the restroom, he rudely told her that his business didn't have a restroom. He was lying because I have been there before and know there is a customer restroom. The owner of this business quoted $2,040 for a repair that was not needed, that is absolutely outrageous. The diagnosis from Moraga Auto Care was completely wrong. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION WHEN DEALING WITH MORAGA AUTO CARE, you can save hundreds even thousands of dollars. Terrible way to treat customers. Plenty of auto shops in town, this one is by far the worst for us! read more

There are some repairs that the dealer can take care of, but for oil changes, engine checks, and other simple to mid-grade repairs, I am glad to give John, JJ, Brett and the rest of the crew here my business. When it comes to engine work, they are cool about applying the diagnostic price (most cases $120) toward any repairs the car needs. Routine maintenance is becoming more important as my car gets up there in miles, and they tell you what your car needs now and what it will need soon. And once you are on their mailing list, you get service reminders and even a holiday card from the owner himself. So this has become my go-to place when in the area, and they also have an independent smog guy in the back who does occasional deals as well. read more

I received an oil change on September 25th. My rod was thrown on December 23rd. I had just gotten an oil change here. Two days later, hearf a noise took it back, the idiot says "its just the oil settling."Went back, the mechanic and manager both denied wrongdoing with a submitted "actual" mechanics report. My car is a 2015 Kia Soul and not enough oil was put in it. I am suing for a new motor. Do not go here they will ruin your car! They do not know what they are doing. read more

Super honest people! You can tell they're looking out for you, and I didn't even get the chance to have my vehicle serviced yet! I was calling different auto-shops in my area (Moraga) and these guys were the first to actually answer the phone. Not only that, before I called, I was looking on their website and read the Bios, etc. It mentioned John, the owner, and how he was passionate about cars, customer service, and family. Seemed like a nice local business. So I called, figured I'd reach the receptionist...but guess who answered? John himself! Whoa, I thought, awesome, I love to support my local businesses, and even more when the owner is still devoting his time into it!! But even still, when I arrived at the shop, John was explaining what he talked with me over the phone to one of the other employees (sorry I forgot your name!!), but this guy, he was just as awesome!! Seriously, we went back to the office, and I mentioned how my car was still under warranty (its less than 3 years old!), but the dealership was trying to charge me over $1,000. So he told me exactly what I needed to do and say, and go back to the dealership, and give them no excuses to fix my car under warranty. He said if I were him, this is what he would do. Seriously, you can't get better trust and information than this...not to mention in the automotive industry where every car salesman and mechanic is looking to make $$$ off unsuspecting customers. I can't wait til I don't have to deal with the MINI dealership anymore (when my warranty expires)....granted, hopefully I don't have too many mechanical problems, but if I do, I know where to go. I am very happy with the service I got at Moraga Auto Care & Service. I thought my waterpump went out on my car but was not sure. Brett ran several tests and found out it was my sensor and thermostat that went bad. He made sure to thoroughly check my car and even asked to keep it an extra day to make sure that the problem was gone. He kept me informed as to what was going on and made sure to explain everything. What a disappointment! I'm a little old lady and went to this place looking for help in a scary situation. On the way to a concert in Moraga Thursday afternoon, my car suddenly died and all the dashboard lights came on. I got it started and limped into this place looking for help. The man inside was very nice and ran to get the mechanic. He, however, seemed very annoyed and said he was busy and couldn't even look at it until Monday. He said I should have it towed and to get it out of his driveway. And walked off. I hope someone is much kinder to his mother when she needs help. read more

Not only did he not mock me for not understanding anything about what was wrong with my car, he actually took the time to explain it to me in plain english. On top of fixing everything that was wrong with my car (yes I waited several months till it all piled up) - he got it all done in one day and for far less then I've paid any other mechanic! And on top of all of that John also gave me a ride to the BART station so I could get to work AND he picked me up that evening and took me back to the shop! He is honest and honestly nice! I have received exemplary service the two times I've used Moraga Auto Care & Service in the past six months. Both times were for routine maintenance---once to change tires & once to replace a headlight and rotate my tires. While my car was in this shop the second time I mentioned to John, the owner, that the airbag light on the dash had come on and stayed on in the past few weeks. John suspected the airbag sensor was malfunctioning & since the car is a late model he thought this would be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. So, he went ahead and called the nearest dealer and he was right---the light was covered. He then sent me an email advising me of this and included the address of the nearest dealer who could repair the problem. That is what I call service. I have to disagree completely with the reviewer who suggested this garage is overpriced. From what I can tell the prices are very fair and much more competitive then what I find in Walnut Creek and Concord. Also, I'm fairly certain the gas station is a separate business from the garage. I highly recommend Moraga Auto Care & Service to anyone who needs service on new or used vehicles. John & his crew rock! read more

A lot of people don't realize that this is a different business than the gas station, because I don't think this place even has a restroom. However, from my experience this repair shop has the lowest prices in town...saved me hundreds when compared to the dealership prices. The guys there were honest, giving me all of my options (ie aftermarket parts v. Dealership) and prioritized the things that needed to be done now or things that could wait. So basically I know nothing about cars. I left the light on in my car overnight and discharged the battery so in the morning it wouldn't start. I jump started it and managed to get it over to this shop. I was sure the battery was bad because I didn't notice I had left the light on all night. These guys at the shop are great! I was prepared to wait for a time when they could get me in, but they took me right away, saying that testing the battery would only take a few minutes. Turns out the battery was fine. With as little as I know about cars, I could have been taken for a ride. I appreciate the honesty, and the best thing of all was I got out of there free of any charges. Last August, our car just started to break down. At first, we wanted to keep the car and we brought it to the shop where the mechanic was extremely thorough in explaining what was wrong with our car and what the charges related to. The work was fair priced. A short time later, we decided we were going to sell it and get a new car as it was rather old at that point. However before we could save up a good down payment, another issue came up, much more expensive than before. The owner, upon hearing our situation, did not push for us to get expensive fix, rather he provided us with a cheaper work-around alternative that would allow the car to run long enough for us to complete a purchase of a new car. Cheaper even than a rental car would have cost us in the interim. He has earned our trust and we have even sent our family there to have their cars worked on. A good and honest mechanic seems hard to come by, and we feel we have found ours. read more
