We didn't make a reservation before arriving in the afternoon so we made a late reservation upon arriving and visited the beach before coming back. The outside tasting area was relaxing and well decorated. Our "pour decision maker," Andy, was funny and had excellent wine recommendations despite his work title. We agreed with Andy on the best wine and were tempted to buy one or two bottles but we didn't only because we very rarely drink. We came during April 2021 so this was one of the first venues we visited after isolating due to Civic so we were a little skeptical, but they did a fantastic job of keeping distance between the parties and the owner took precautions in designing protocols to make everyone feel safe and warm with a fire table for each table. We were fortunate for our later reservation as we got a larger seating area for just the two of us, and because we were the last reservation time of the evening all the guests were able to enjoy a little longer without being rushed by a new incoming party. If I'm ever in the area again I would definitely stop by for a relaxing afternoon. read more

FUN! Great wine. Super nice staff. We came on Christmas Eve just before closing and we were pleasantly greeted right away. The tasting room is dog friendly. We had our English Bulldog, Olive, with us and she was given lots of love and a doggy treat! There were two other couples with their doggies too. Their Cab is amazing. We bought a bottle. Fun little place. We can't wait to go back the next time we're in Cambria. read more

Moonstone Cellars was a fantastic experience! I was part of a large bridal party and we decided to go to Moonstone Cellars to stay down town in Cambria and we are so glad we did. They accommodated us perfectly even with over 10 people. Andy was our host and he had amazing energy and knowledge. He definitely rolled with the punches with all of the strong personalities in our large group. Andy even helped us with pictures for memories. He was absolutely wonderful. We all greatly enjoyed the wine and the extremely warm atmosphere of the place. We all would go again. read more

Amazing customer service, Susana ( sorry if I got spelling wrong) was amazing and helped my husband and I to pick wines for our meals. We went back to load up for the road and met the winemaker's wife who was a sweetheart. Great wines and amazing customer service, highly recommended. read more

This was a great experience. Relaxed and friendly, our kids played cards while we tasted. 2 flights between us so we could taste everything. Sauv Blanc and Tempranillo were the winners. Will come back! read more

Moonstone Cellars - Choosing the right bottle to take home was fun. - Wineries Near Me - Cambria, California

A great tasting experience! What a great little gem and discovery! We were on our way to taste at a different vineyard all together when we accidentally stumbled upon Moonstone Cellars because we had to use the public restrooms along the beach. We popped in just to inquire about the tasting menu and was happily greeted by Bre. She was so nice and welcoming that we decided to stay and do a quick tasting. Bre made the entire experience so delightful that we ended up staying and tasting for close it an hour. The wines were great, the service was superb, even the customers who were regulars at Moonstone Cellars were a joy to interact with. If there is only one place you can taste while driving through Cambria/Moonstone Beach...We highly recommend you stopping by Moonstone Cellars! read more

With so many wineries in the area, I picked this one based on a half-star difference in Yelp reviews. It was ok, but I think its target audience is an older crowd. It was on the formal side and I felt out of place, though the server (owner?) was perfectly friendly. It was $10 for a tasting of 6 wines--I accidentally picked 7 but the guy said that was fine too. Tasting fee is waived with the purchase of two bottles. The chardonnay was really very tasty and I went home with two bottles (to be saved for a special occasion). I like that they have screw-off caps to avoid cork taint. On the other hand, I wasn't too impressed with the other wines I tasted. They were all ok but nothing that struck me as delicious. The last wine on the list of reds was very unique--the guy described it as a dessert wine without the sweetness, and when I tried it I could definitely see what he meant. But it was also one of the most expensive (nearly $40/bottle if I remember correctly). I can see why people like it, but I personally enjoyed the more informal tasting up the street at Fermentations more. read more

My wife and I come here one a year and are always content with the wines and atmosphere. The vintages change but no matter, you will find numerous varietals you will enjoy and if you're like us, purchase. Thanks to all the friendly staff and owners for creating a great experience! read more

We loved our time at Moonstone! The wines were delicious and so diverse from a super light Grenache Blanc to a delicious Petit Verdot. Andy was very friendly and made us feel so welcome. He was so much fun, we came both nights we were in town! read more

What an awesome place! Andy was so friendly & knowledgeable and made it fun. We had such a great time and enjoyed all of the wines.

Andy gave such an amazing tasting experience. Really fun and enjoyable. Would highly recommend the beautiful tasting wine.

That Andy, what a guy. Provided such a relaxing and wonderful experience. Oh! And the wines. We had to take home a couple of bottles, Sauvignon Blanc and the Slabtown Chardonnay. Covid pushed the wine tasting outdoors, which isn't such a bad thing. The patio in which we tasted wine was sublime. Would recommend this tasting experience to anyone lucky enough to be in Cambria on a beautiful, sunny day. read more

Excellent service. Very kind and accommodating during this time of COVID. Have a beautiful outdoor seating area and fantastic wine. Will definitely be returning on our next trip! read more

You will want to hear about the wine but I must first talk about the staff! Walked in 20mins before closing and they treated me royally just the same. plus they gushed over my dog and made her feel like the true guest. NOW the wines, all the reds were high quality, uniquely named and the perfect transition from 1 to the next. I felt like I was stealing from them when they told me the tasting was inly $10! read more

In short, great wine, great atmosphere and wonderful customer service. Not much more one could ask for a in winery. Love it!

Cheap tasting fee, friendly guys, got to hear the back story of them making wine in a house back in the day (like moonshine.) Reds were all right, also liked the Pink Elephanteux (whatever) white. It might be on touristy main street Cambria, but it was solid. read more

Ron & Nate know their wines & make tasting these uniquely described wines a great experience! Moonstone Cellars new location is perfect! Thanks for a great time!! read more

This wine tasting place gives you 6 tastings for $5 bucks. I'm not a wine snob and don't really have the skill to professionally taste, I just go by what I like and don't like. I really really liked this wine by this winery. Sooooo good. We bought a few bottles and they waved the tasting fee! read more

There are just a few wine tasting places in Cambria, but Moonstone may just be the best. The gal behind the counter had a very engaging personality and a quite liberal pour when it came to trying the wines. The wines include a Cab Franc which is one of my favorites and the zins were excellent as well. The Adularia (dessert wine) was sweet and tasty and would make anyone happy. If you are in the area go on in and tip back some excellent vino. read more

Awesome service and great stories from Todd. Got a quick lesson on wines, and learned quite a bit. I ordered the following: -2010 Chardonnay "Slabtown" -2010 Viognier -2010 Gerwurztraminer - TWICE -2009 Meriteaux Reserve -2009 Cabernet Franc The wife got an extra dose of Adularia; no extra charge. Since we were going to be in town for another day, we told Todd that we'll be back the next day. Todd told us to hold off on paying for the wine tasting until next time. Great service, so we came back and got a few bottles of wine to take back home. read more

First of all 7.00 for six wines is UNHEARD of, let alone six DELICIOUS wines. The wines were diverse and delicious. Secondly, the pouring was incredibly generous...need I say more? I will... Thirdly, the customer service was one of the best I had. Nate was fun, interesting, knowledgeable and great to talk to. My best friend and I were there for almost 2 hours drinking and chatting with anyone who came in to taste. This place is a must stop if you are looking for some wine and fun. Also the cheese and chocolate plate hit the spot. read more

Stopped in for a quick tasting and left with a bottle of dessert wine, Adularia. The tasting fee was $5 and included 6 different wines. There were a nice variety of reds and whites for tasting, so if you're coming in a pair, I'd recommend one person go with whites and the other, reds, so you can experience the best of both. What I appreciate is the "re-visits" here and there, where you get an extra pour of a certain wine you're interested in, no extra charge. This is really nice whether you're indecisive or just a lush for wine. Super friendly folks at Moonstone Cellars! Will be back! read more

What an amazing place to come for a great wine tasting. Come see Molly! She's great! You won't be disappointed with their wines. Whether your a white or red wine drinker, they are all amazing! You can even hold private events in their events room or even rent out the apartment upstairs when you stay in town. I totally recommend it. Don't miss it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Okay, I give these guys the (somewhat) elusive 5 star rating. On a recent trip down the cost, we decided to head into Cambria and check it out. I think we needed gas, to be honest. But, we were happily surprised to find a great little tasting room in this sleepy town. The owner and other staff were really friendly, gave generous tasting portions, and lo and behold we got to taste for FREE by just going over to their computer and becoming a fan on Facebook. No problem, dudes. Plus, the wine really was quite good. The owner buys grapes from all over and crafts his wine and I was a huge fan of the viognier and zinfandel. I was sorely disappointed they had run out of their sangiovese but plan to buy it sometime soon. Anyway, if you're ever in the area definitely head over here and have some good wine!!!! read more

My Dad and I visited Moonstone Cellars for the first time in August of 2009 while camping down the road a bit. My Dad can't hear too well and isn't the quickest talker, so it was a huge relief when Todd was friendly and more than willing to repeat himself for my Dad. Todd is co-owner of the winery. He went out of his way to share with us about his wine, how he makes it and even the challenges of running a small winery. I learned more about wine making from that one day with Todd than I have at any other wineries I've visited. It was one of the highlights of the trip for my Dad and I because of Todd's welcoming and warm service. My Dad and I came back in April of 2010 on our way home from camping in Big Sur and again we had a great time tasting and talking with Todd and another gentleman helping behind the counter. My Dad loves the whites, while I enjoy the reds. Again, the people of Moonstone cellars were friendly and clearly enjoyed telling us about their wine and all the steps of making it. So far our favorites are the 2007 Gewurztraminer, Sangiovese, and the 2007 Sangeaux Riserva. read more

I was not expecting a fantastic winery experience in Cambria, and given the location of the tasting room - wedged inbetween two tacky gift shops on the main drag, I certainly wouldn't have been inclined to stop here if it hadn't been for the fact that we'd tried their gwuertz at Wild Ginger cafe the night before and been quite impressed. This is one of those lessons to would-be wine snobs like myself: don't judge a tasting room by it's location! Just because Cambria is a touristy town catering to boomers and their parents doesn't mean you won't find world-class wine here - and better yet, the owner/winemaker runs the tasting room personally. He was extremely friendly and genuinely passionate about his wine, without being overbearing. In general I think the best wine-tasting values involve free tastings, but at $5 per person this is the next best thing, particularly considering that Doug chucked the "six tastings" and gave us a sip of everything that was on the menu, and then some, then asked if we wanted more. And unlike any of the other tasting rooms we'd visited that day, wines were available by the glass and there was a sitting area, which is a really nice touch, actually. But forget all that: was the wine good? HELL YES THE WINE WAS GOOD. And well-priced. And delicious. We hemmed and hawed over what to get, and finally ended up with the massive Slabtown Chardonnay and the leathery peppery delicious Syrah. I don't expect to be down that way often, but I ain't lying when I say that I will likely actually be ordering their wines in the future. Also: if you "fan" the winery on Facebook, they waive your tasting fee! read more

Okay, so I might be a little bit biased, seeing as how Todd is my cousin. But seriously... his wine rocks! And everyone we've ever shared it with agrees. Plus, Todd is just about the friendliest guy you'll ever meet. Visit Cambria. Drink his wine. You won't be disappointed. read more

Danielle helped us in our first wine tasting in Cambria. Since then we have been back again, and even joined the wine club. She is very knowledgeable about all the wines, and also very funny. Thanks Moonstone for a lovely tasting experience and some very delightful wines. This little place was a true surprise for us, I really didn't expect good wine in downtown Cambria. The Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay were my favorites, but we also bought a few bottles of the Zinfandel - it was that good. Friendly folks here and a place for our pup to lie down at our feet. Very nice, thanks!! read more

Good wine, good service and a good experience. We happened on this tasting room after having lunch. I was pleasantly surprised how good the wine was. I don't know much about this region but I'm glad of the short amount of time we had that this is the place we ran into. read more

Moonstone Cellars is a winery we have visited a number of times over the last 10 years. I have always been a fan of their white wines but the reds I tasted on a recent trip were also quite good. Our server, Andy, was helpful, personable and took very good care of us. As a small production, family-run winery, they just treat their customers/visitors as if they were old friends. I recommend a visit. read more

Todd is passionate and very easy going winemaker. If you want to taste some wine in a relaxed and non-intrusive atmosphere this is the place to stop by right off the Pacific Coast Highway. Cute little spot in downtown Cambria to do a little wine tasting before heading out to dinner for the evening. My girlfriends and I had so much fun trying their wine selections and chatting with Julie who even made us a dinner reservation at one of the best restaurants in town for that evening. Danielle was the best tasting room server! She gave the best recommendations for tastings! Try to get served by her when visiting.

I had the opportunity to visit this business a few weeks ago while traveling through Cambria. I had no knowledge of their wine prior to my arrival - I literally found them while driving through the area. Even though I didn't have an appointment, they were able to accommodate me (and my dog) right away and we had a lovely experience on the outdoor patio. Nate took great care of us, explaining the history of the wine, while another woman (didn't get her name) made sure my dog had treats and water. I really liked their wines and ended up purchasing multiple bottles. I would recommend this location for anyone seeking a relaxed wine-tasting experience. A special shout out to their Voignier - it was amazing! read more

After my boyfriend and I visited Hearst Castle we went on a wine tasting venture. Our first stop was Moonstone located on the one and only main strip of a cute, new age kinda town. What struck me wasn't so much the wine (which was great, compare the two chardonnays, very fun) or the art (mandalas photoshopped from local flowers by a local aging artist) but the proprietor Todd. What a cool freakin guy, I think he drank more wine than we did during the tasting. This is a man who loves what he does and you can taste it in his wine. For five bucks a person you get to taste 8 delicious wines and have some great casual conversation with a very interesting person. Even if you aren't really into wine this is a very enjoyable experience. read more

A gem of a tasting room located in Cambria. I'm so happy we stopped here on our way to lunch. There were two other couples inside for a wine tasting when my mom and I walked in on a Monday around noon. $5 for six tastes and you can choose a white wine list or a red wine list. Fun bonus, the tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle. My mom and I split the white wine tasting and ended up taking home a bottle. Here is what we tried -2010 Selenite -2010 Albarino -2010 Chardonnay "Slabtown" -2010 Viognier * -2010 Gerwurztraminer ** (Lychee + grapefruit tang) It was so different and delicious that we couldn't resist it. -Adularia **purchased *liked Our pourer was the owner of Moonstone and he was GREAT! His name is Todd aka "Grape stomping Todd" and he genuinely made us feel so welcomed into their establishment. He was able to move seamlessly amount all three tasting groups and told us about his wines, what they pair well with, etc. He was also nice enough to give us an empty box for all of our purchases throughout the trip and tips for a great place to grab lunch in Cambria. A great place to stop if you are on your way back from Hearst Castle or in the area for something else! read more
