We visited Moonstone Cellars for the first time back in June. Super cute and inviting atmosphere. Michael shared not only his wine knowledge with us, but his fun personality as he poured each tasting. Todd is such an approachable guy, and willing to share the history of his wine making. I have done many tastings over the years, and never have I signed up to become a member, until now! I enjoyed all the wines, and while my palate prefers a spicy red, the Chardonnay was fabulous! We went here Saturday afternoon very cute place. Wine was fine. Did a red tasting with 3. Andy was our host and poured our tastings, We tasted as fast as as he poured! He asked about the wine club.... we said yea we would like info. He brought out during the 2nd to last tasting when we had our last tasting he asked if we were interested! Came up north for my birthday weekend with some friends, and out of the wine tasting experiences we had, this was by far my favorite. Views are one thing, but for us, nothing beats a personable experience. Andy did just that. He spent time getting to know our group and gave us VIP treatment. Although we arrived just before closing, directed here from the Twin Coyotes tasting room down the road, we were not rushed through our tasting. The two women working were friendly and fun. Their wine menu states that it is $5 for 5 tastings. However, they poured us everything, including a very nice dessert wine. All of the wines were quite good. You can also purchase wine by the glass. Speaking of their wine menu, the person who wrote the tasting notes (a former employee, we were informed) was quite "creative." We got a good giggle reading the descriptions. They don't have a restroom, and the public restrooms nearby are closed because of the drought, but there are some decent port-o-potties with outdoor sinks, soap and paper towels available. Oh, and with some great music playing there was even a little dancing! I would definitely return here when in the area. read more

We discovered Moonstone on an epic road trip that carried the rule: "if it looks interesting, pull over." Our original intent for stopping in Cambria was to see Nitt Witt Ridge, but the siren's call of locally produced wine was far more appealing. Inside the Moonstone tasting room you'll find Todd, the most entertaining grape stomper of all time. I really like that you get to interact with the owner and wine maker at Moonstone, unlike many wineries that carry a large staff. He'll tell you the story behind each vintage, making for a pretty interesting experience. Plus he's the nicest guy ever. The wines are phenomenal - complex, balanced, and carefully tended. Recently I drove two hours out of the way on a road trip to load up on the 2006 Syrah. It is that good. I'm also a member of the wine club, so it feels like Christmas morning every time a box arrives. If you're driving through the Cambria area, definitely make a stop at Moonstone. You'll be glad you did. read more

They accommodated us perfectly even with over 10 people. Andy was our host and he had amazing energy and knowledge. We went to Moonstone Cellars Friday afternoon. Loved the whole experience - Sam, who poured for us, the wine, and the patio - all great!

We didn't make a reservation before arriving in the afternoon so we made a late reservation upon arriving and visited the beach before coming back. The outside tasting area was relaxing and well decorated. Our "pour decision maker," Andy, was funny and had excellent wine recommendations despite his work title. We agreed with Andy on the best wine and were tempted to buy one or two bottles but we didn't only because we very rarely drink. We came during April 2021 so this was one of the first venues we visited after isolating due to Civic so we were a little skeptical, but they did a fantastic job of keeping distance between the parties and the owner took precautions in designing protocols to make everyone feel safe and warm with a fire table for each table. We were fortunate for our later reservation as we got a larger seating area for just the two of us, and because we were the last reservation time of the evening all the guests were able to enjoy a little longer without being rushed by a new incoming party. If I'm ever in the area again I would definitely stop by for a relaxing afternoon. read more

Stopped in here at the end of my trip to Cambria right when they opened at 11 am, which felt slightly weird at the time. We had to hit the road though and wanted to do at least wine wine tasting for heading back to Southern California. Once again, trusty Yelp led me in the right direction - Moonstone is a great winery. The place was obviously empty because we were in there so early on a weekday morning, but the woman behind the tasting bar was awesome. She was super friendly, and didn't make us feel weird at all. It's a cute little place right on Main St. I tasted all the Whites, and my boyfriend tasted all the reds. I (very surprisingly) liked both of the chardonnay's, in fact, I liked all of the wines that I tasted. My boyfriend was also very happy with all of the reds, and particularly (also to our surprise) liked the cab franc. Pleased with the wines and service, I purchased one of the chardonnays and the cab franc. They waive the tasting fee if you buy a bottle of wine, which is cool! The tasting fee is only $5 anyways. The really enjoyed this winery and would be back if I'm in the area again. read more

FUN! Great wine. Super nice staff. We came on Christmas Eve just before closing and we were pleasantly greeted right away. The tasting room is dog friendly. We had our English Bulldog, Olive, with us and she was given lots of love and a doggy treat! There were two other couples with their doggies too. Their Cab is amazing. We bought a bottle. We popped in just to inquire about the tasting menu and was happily greeted by Bre. She was so nice and welcoming that we decided to stay and do a quick tasting. Bre made the entire experience so delightful that we ended up staying and tasting for close it an hour. With so many wineries in the area, I picked this one based on a half-star difference in Yelp reviews. It was ok, but I think its target audience is an older crowd. It was on the formal side and I felt out of place, though the server (owner?) was perfectly friendly. It was $10 for a tasting of 6 wines--I accidentally picked 7 but the guy said that was fine too. Tasting fee is waived with the purchase of two bottles. The chardonnay was really very tasty and I went home with two bottles (to be saved for a special occasion). I like that they have screw-off caps to avoid cork taint. On the other hand, I wasn't too impressed with the other wines I tasted. They were all ok but nothing that struck me as delicious. The last wine on the list of reds was very unique--the guy described it as a dessert wine without the sweetness, and when I tried it I could definitely see what he meant. But it was also one of the most expensive (nearly $40/bottle if I remember correctly). I can see why people like it, but I personally enjoyed the more informal tasting up the street at Fermentations more. read more
