This place used to be a distributor of MoonPie and related products. It CLOSED a few weeks ago per the associates at Life is Good next door. Life is Good sells fresh MoonPies factory direct if you want to buy some. The MoonPie Factory no longer offers tours post-pandemic. This MoonPie General Store location can be found in downtown Chattanooga, found next door to Rodizio Grill, with only (metered) street parking nearby. If you are looking for the famous MoonPie confection (which were born and created right here in Chattanooga during the early 1900s), then this is the place to purchase them. What is a Moonpie you wonder? It is a graham cracker cookie covered with a marshmallow fluff that is dipped in chocolate. This delicious southern treat comes in additional flavors that include strawberry, vanilla, banana, salted caramel, etc and seasonal flavors like pumpkin when available. At this store, there are the regular size MoonPies available for the sale and also the mini. I ended up purchasing: One dozen assorted mini Moon Pies, $4.99 prior to tax- I ended up getting one of each flavor and a double of a few of the same since there weren't 12 different flavors. The flavors I purchased were: coconut (seasonal, usually available during Mardi Gras), orange (also seasonal during Mardi Gras), banana, salted caramel, pumpkin spice (seasonal), vanilla, chocolate and strawberry (unfortunately they ran out of mint). I think I liked the pumpkin spice and vanilla the best. Although I thought the coconut was pretty good too. --------------------------------- (Total= $5.30 after tax) In addition to the MoonPies, you can also purchase cute random souvenirs, Chattanooga t-shirts, funny saying t- shirts, snacks and knick knacks of various things. There is also a very clean, single unisex restroom, in the back if you need to use it. Customer service was friendly. My husband and I were both greeted when we came in and thanked for visiting when we left. If visiting Chattanooga again in the future, I will be sure to stop by here for more MoonPie. read more

What a fun store! So many different MoonPie flavors. We grabbed a bunch to try! They had singles for .50 cents. They had a ton of fun merchandise, clothing, kitchenware, mugs, toys, plushies, decor. Thankfully they also had a restroom to use while we stopped in and it was clean. read more

I didn't know this place was here and was told they have "every flavor you can think of". Im from Cali so we have a few stores with Moon pies including Bass Pro. When we went they had some buckets with a few flavors which weren't very full. It was the same flavors you can most places: vanilla, choc, mint, banana, strawberry, salted carmel. The shop was small, had knickknacks and moonpie shirts. But Im not gonna pay extra for a moon pie because its an "official" store. read more

As another part of our rainy day Saturday in Chattanooga, we made a stop at the Moonpie General Store. I was told by a friend that it was a must to stop by, and my husband absolutely loves Moon Pies, so it was an obvious choice for us. Of course we picked up a stash for my husband, but we also picked some up for my dad, who lives in Louisiana and doesn't have anywhere to get his easily, other than online. We spent about an hour in the store walking around and looking at everything-it definitely has that Cracker Barrel type vibe in certain areas, which was cool. They have a section where there are old games/puzzles/novelty items, which was fun for our six year old son. We also picked up this nifty Interstate Bingo card, which helped with our trip back home today! They also had a cute little Moon Pie backdrop where people could take pictures, so we of course took advantage of that! We walked out of there with SO much stuff, but it was super fun and we were able to get ground coffee, Moon Pies galore, and tons of other goodies. One thing that I will say is that the staff at Moon Pie weren't as engaging and friendly as the ones at the Rocket Fizz store. I don't think that it would've been as evident had we not just come from Rocket Fizz directly before we went to Moon Pie. The staff were not unfriendly, but they didn't really greet people as they walked in, didn't talk to them when they were walking around the store, it was really just when you went to check out that they even talked to you. I also heard one of the staff grumbling and cursing with another coworker at one point, which was a bit off-putting. We will definitely go back, regardless of any of that! The selection makes it super fun, and there's always Moon Pies!! read more

This store was a test of how many times you can say "Oh! Look at this, look at that!" I had bookmarked this shop because my son was meeting us for vacation and loves banana moon pies! This store surpassed my expectations! We mixed and matched a box of 12 mini moon pies! Mint!!! Strawberry! Chocolate, Vanilla, PUMPKIN SPICE!!! Salted Caramel and Banana! Of course. They also do moon pie milkshakes, sundaes and more! Plus all the swag! Magnets, patches, shirts, hats, old school signs... We bounced all over this shop! Robert bought the "Moon Me" shirt in red and we got way too much moon pie stuff! I wouldn't be surprised if we land there again tomorrow for ice cream!!! read more

When I moved back to Chattanooga a couple years ago, I knew I HAD to go to the Moonpie store. It's kind of iconic since Moonpies are all over the world now but started in Chattanooga. The store of course sells Moonpies but also sells all sorts of kinds of candy, homemade goods, and silly fun merchandise. I love moon pies. A cute place to go get some moon pies which are apparently from Chattanooga. Lots of moon pie decor, candles, socks, you name it. Some local hot sauces too. They were out of a couple of flavors but I still found some good pies. They really do taste differently fresh. Most everything else is general gift store stuff though, not local. I do wish the shop were connected to the actual moon pie factory with tours, or even if the shop had signage about the history of moon pies or something like that. read more

It was actually a coworker who told me if I was going to the TN Aquarium, I HAD to go to the MoonPie General Store. Not even a mile away from the aquarium, we walked on over and it was like walking into a time machine! Moon pies littered the store, small, large, banana, chocolate, single decker, double decker and Royal Crown (RC) cola! If you so desire, there are empty boxes near a community area of moon pies. We took on a deal of getting their mini moon pies, either 50 cents each, or a dozen for $4.95. If you're not a fan of Moon pies, don't worry, they have several other types of sweets, plush dolls to purchase, and again, RC Cola. I'm not the biggest fan of Moon Pies, but it was just very cool to step inside and see the history of this store. I could see this being an excellent spot for tourists like we were. Want something sweet? Stop on in to the MoonPie General Store, for a very sweet experience! read more

Such a cute store and a must go to if you're in Chattanooga TN. We went when they opened, 10am to grab several boxes of each flavor to take back home to CA for family and friends. It's in a cute brick building in downtown. Parking in front along street and a paid parking lot just on the corner. The girls working were restocking all the moon pies that had just come in. The MoonPie store promises MoonPies and definitely delivers. This small store has a variety of MoonPie flavors, some of which I haven't seen before in grocery stores (such as caramel and strawberry) and a built-your-own box station, which we definitely took advantage of to try all the available flavors. There's a bunch of MoonPie-branded goodies such as shirts, cups, magnets, Christmas decorations, you name it. They even a "workingman's lunch" combo which includes a MoonPie and a bottle of RC Cola, which was really cute. This little store is just so stinkin' adorable! I had popped in a couple of times here and there when en route to or from work and needing gum or some candy or such, but until yesterday had not taken time to really peruse and observe all the fantabulous wares that span the past, oh, five or so decades! I think I saw almost every single candy, trinket, toy, etc that I can recall from my childhood - from Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and Hello Kitty figurines, to Pop Rocks and Big League Chew, Pac Man lunchboxes and . . . plus of course the ubiquitous Moon Pie collection (they have minis! who knew?) which made me smile because my Grandaddy always kept a box of them in the pantry and we got them as special treats. There's also a fun collection of more recent ktocthkes like Dammit Dolls and Ann Taintor (looove her stuff) magnets, plus a pretty impressive assortment of regional sauces, seasonings and such if you're looking for a little gift for a foodie friend, or need to take a "taste" of the South of some kind back from your visit to town. I think I've found a new spot that can just lift my spirits when in the mood for a happy trip down memory lane~ will visit regularly! read more

So, there is plenty of more room to move around. They have a ice cream parlor counter top and they also sell homemade candies.. Great prices and great candies. We bought a large box of double decker chocolate moonpies for my daddy..and Noel bougth a tshirt for daddy for Christmas.. We enjoyed the shop and will definitely go back again Highly recommend to everyone, great for all ages... Wishing now I had ordered one of the EGG CREAMS on the menu board..sounds soooo good ..will have to next time I go to Chatty... read more

MoonPies... what a time to be alive. I remember the slight occasion of getting these at gas stations in rural Missouri growing up, so it was fun to know that Chattanooga is home to these. They have seemingly endless flavors here but do yourself a favor and stick with the original. The Strawberry and other artificially colored varieties look like a stomachache waiting to be opened. Also, words I never thought I'd type, follow MoonPie on Twitter as they're strangely hilarious. read more

Cute shop with some interesting items and lots of MoonPie treats. I've never had a moonpie before so I don't know how it compares. It is supposedly a treat to celebrate the Apollo 11 moon walk in 1969. For other newbies, it is a graham cracker with a marshmallow filling. The graham cracker is coated with various flavors (banana, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, coconut). It is actually not as sweet as I thought it would be. They have full/regular sized moonpies and mini moonpies. We got a dozen of the minis and it was more than enough for us. We also tried the ice cream moon pie. It was not as sweet as the moonpies themselves so I enjoyed this more. You have to eat it quick though or it becomes a sticky mess! read more

You can customize a box to your own liking or buy them individually. They come in the regular size ($0.75) and mini versions ($0.50). There were cool jewelry pieces, vintage metal posters, comic book characters (i.e. Spiderman, Ninja Turtles, and the likes), and other cool things I haven't seen elsewhere. For my first MoonPie experience, what could possibly be better than stopping at the MoonPie General Store?? This downtown store was a lot cuter than I expected. The employees were very friendly and welcoming. They have all the MoonPies- singles, doubles, minis, many different flavors. They also have a ton of other different candies, goodies, souvenirs and gifts. It's a fun place to browse around. There is also a little soda fountain bar where I saw people enjoying root beer floats. The parking situation was a little tricky. It's street parking only. We couldn't find any open spots so my husband dropped me off and then circled around the block to pick me back up. read more

A friend who grew up in Chattanooga told us we had to eat moon pies when there. I had my heart set on trying a friend moon pie and was so disappointed that the restaurant serving these was closed the day we visited. Google to the rescue--searched for "moonpie Chattanooga" and came up with this place. What a cute little store just a few blocks from the waterfront. Service was friendly and so patient as I tried to figure out what flavor everyone in the family wanted to try. There are at least 6 different flavors, who knew? We purchased a variety box of mini pies for a good price. The saleslady recommended we drink RC cola with it. Fun store that adds to the local flavor, would definitely recommend. read more

I'm not a Chattanooga native, but I did know what Moon Pies were. I had no idea until I moved to Chattanooga that they were made right here in town! That's so cool! This great store has all kinds of Moon Pies, memorabilia and snacks, and just so many things. It looks like an old fashioned general store, which is appropriate. It's in a perfect spot downtown that fits in well and is easily found by tourists and locals alike. Staff are southern friendly and make you feel welcome. I gotta say, that since moving to Chattanooga, these Moon Pies have grown on me. Get one (or more) and have them with another Chattanooga original, a Double Cola, and walk through downtown and marvel at the wonder of it all. read more

Now the bakery is across the river, produces over a million a day , and does not do public tours. You can buy loose or boxed moon pies, OR you can fill a box with a mixed selection of your choice. They have a small food and ice cream counter too. I just ate some I bought there today and they were better than regular store bought as they are fresher. My good friend brought me to this moonpie store located in Downtown Chattanooga to grab some souvenirs to bring back home. The store may look small externally, but it carried a gazillion candies, snacks, ice cream, apparel, and other novelties from wall-to-wall, and floor-to-ceiling. They specialize in a range of MoonPies, ranging from miniatures, single- or double-deckers, and lookout pies that resembled a small pie. I bought two boxes of Salted Caramel Mini MoonPies, a box of Strawberry, and Chocolate MoonPies. Each box ($3.50) came with 12 miniatures, plenty for sharing or enough for those who want it all. The Salted Caramel came with two small soft cookies sandwiched in-between a marshmallow filling, and glazed with sugary caramel with a hint of salt that rendered a soft chew. These flavors were rich and sugary, and my friends and family members really enjoyed them as well. They go perfectly with my morning coffee.
