I am proud to say I have three amazing tattoos from the artists at Moon - two done by David and one by Secret. I've had nothing but amazing experiences here, and I now hold every other tattoo shop to a much higher standard. The shop itself is immaculately clean, and the artists are extremely focused on making you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in the front door. It's peaceful and calm, and definitely feels like a safe, cozy environment. Each artist has their own way of booking; their processes are clearly laid out on their social media and webpages. Sproul rules! If you ever consider getting some AMAZING black work done, GO TO MOON. And try to get in with Sproul before he moves! He is such a talented artist and a super cool dude. Explained everything to me and was amazing at keeping me distracted during the painful parts. This guy really cares about his work and it shows! Super considerate and respectable as well. The shop is very nice and super clean. All the other artists were extremely nice and welcoming. Definitely feels different than your normal shop where people are just coming in and out willy nilly. They do appointments only so the number of people in the shop is usually pretty low. The little details though is what put the icing on the cake. They have a variety of feminine products available in the restroom, and Sproul gave me stickers, pins, and an aftercare salve after we were through. Although my initial experience with Moon Tattoo was good, what followed after getting my tattoo was not. I went to get a simple script tattoo from Jonathan Bravo that said paradise in my own handwriting. The tattoo took all of five minutes and it was my first tattoo. He didn't bother with any sort of small talk, not that it's a problem, but that came off a bit cold. I chose him when I found his work on Instagram. When I got home and had time to carefully inspect the tattoo, I noticed that the letter d looked more like an a and I asked if he could possibly touch that up for me. What followed were a string of accusatory text messages and he said that he would honor the touch up as if it were a favor. He told me I put too much pressure on him and I expected too much. I forgot this was something permanent on my body and that I had standards. He never replied to my request for an appointment, didn't apologize or acknowledge his inappropriate way of communicating with a customer. The owner provided 0 help in rectifying the situation and I had to go elsewhere for the touch up -- essentially paying $60 for a single line. Avoid bad business practices such as this with unprofessional employees and an owner that demonstrated no desire for reaching customer satisfaction. read more

I began working on a sleeve with Tina at Moon Tattoo one year ago, and initially I posted a very excited 5-star review, which I have since removed. I sat for three sessions to work on my arm and made very little progress for the amount of time I was in the shop. Although I knew she was a somewhat new tattooer, I assumed the shop owner would have stronger technical skills and placed too much trust in her. As a result, I have several tattoos with shaky lines, errors in the anatomy of the animals and extremely poor placement. I have sought out a consultation with another artist to fix what's been done, and he isn't even sure it's possible to rework the existing tattoos into something that looks decent. Pros: 1. The entire team is very nice and welcoming 2. The shop is clean and well lit 3. There is convenient parking on site 4. Tina is very punctual and won't flake on you ever 5. Prices were very reasonable Cons: 1. Tattoos take FOREVER and as a result of the stress on my body, I took forever to heal 2. The technical expertise and technique is seriously lacking in regards to everything from the actual tattoo application to the appropriate placement of tattoos to flow with the body's shapes 3. The tattoos I got over 3 sessions are all VERY different colors, even though they should all be relatively the same shade of black If you plan on going to Moon, I suggest approaching with extreme caution. It is possible to leave Moon with a beautiful tattoo that you love (and many have!), but if you're relying on a strong artistic acumen in regards to tattoos, I would suggest looking to a more established group. read more

This was my first tattoo with Moon Tattoo/David Poe and also my first large scale one at that! I liked David's booking consultation process and how he opens up his books once a month on a certain time and day. I feel like this is beneficial in that there are no long waiting periods to see him, as you'll get tattooed the following month, and gives everyone a fair chance at getting to work with him. There were *some* delays in the books opening up and the system itself is bit wonky. You can select a time, but if you don't fill everything fast enough, someone else who also selected your time slot, can claim it.....even though it says the spot is being "held" for you for a short period of time. We had an over the phone consultation (due to COVID precautions) and he was brief, polite, thorough. I had an idea in mind and sent over references but, to be honest, I completely trusted whatever he would come up with as all his artwork is truly unique and innovative. He is so talented! I got plenty of emailed directions on the whole new COVID process and everything is very easy to find on their website (kudos to the intuitive navigation and helpful information). I showed up prepared and v e r y excited on the actual tattoo day and everything went smoothly. I LOVED my design and he took a lot of effort and care to make sure it looked *exactly* how I wanted - both for my and his standards! He also mentioned to let him know if I have any issues after it heals and would like a touch-up. I appreciated that, as not all artists are that accommodating or patient. David has a relaxing demeanor and we had some easy convo towards the beginning and end of the session, as he was razor focused in the meantime. He is also a crazy fast tattooer and I was pleasantly surprised when it was all over. The shop itself is very clean, minimal, plant-filled (more kudos!!), and just has a comfortable air about it. I did a day trip to Moon Tattoo on the last weekend of pre-pandemic-lockdown. Everything was a little strange on the way there, and I put myself in a stranger mood by sitting in my car in the rain, eating as many soup dumplings as physically possible. So, I can only say through the filter of "what is the world coming to" and "why did I eat so many dumplings," that Moon was a lovely place to spend an afternoon acquiring new art. It took me a long time to decide to write this review as David was a pretty nice guy and the shop was clean, but he really ruined my arm. Not sure why, when given the opportunity to do anything he wanted, he chose to do a cover up on me. I had plenty of open space, but for some reason he took on a huge task and left me with a bad blob of black lines all over an existing tattoo that is still 100% visible, but ugly and messy now. I haven't been able to show my arm for over a year out of embarrassment and I could tell he wasn't happy when he finished either. His suggestion was to "pump some white into it", but I knew that would not fix how awful of a job he did. I love a lot of his work and aesthetic, but unfortunately he scarred me and it's so large and horrible that I couldn't even get another artist to find a way to fix it. You never think you'll be that person with a bad tattoo, then bam! Here I am with a really awful piece on my arm for the rest of my life. I know what it's supposed to be and I can't even tell... I live in New York and I've been in touch with Jonathan Bravo from Moon Tattoo for months now about a swallow bird piece that I've wanted to get for a very long time now. I kept asking to make an appointment to get a tattoo almost exactly the way he did someone else's that i liked from a picture on his instagram. He refused to give me any help or insight on this tattoo until I saw him for an in person consultation and to come back months later for the tattoo. Being that I live in New York, I would have to book a flight back months later just to get the work, which also I was willing to do. When I got to Texas I met with Jonathan and he said he does not draw any images on his own. He prints everything from google and traces it completely, and that that image I loved was something he wasn't willing to replicate. We agreed that I would do research on google and find him an image similar, but not the same and that he would be willing to do it for me. I went home and found 5 images that I liked, he said they were all to similar to the piece he already done. I asked him if we could maybe just tweak some things from the image and he said no he does NOTHING free hand. (but calls himself an artist) So I send him another image and ask him if that bird is possible. He replies to my text saying "dude you're too picky and I cant work with someone like that"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Im here willing to pay the price you asked in order to get something PERMANENT on my body and I'm being picky??? If a person isn't picky and particular on what they want PERMANENTLY INKED ON THEIR BODY then I don't know what to say. Very disappointed with Jonathan's professionalism and unwillingness to help a potential client. read more
