I came here on a whim wanting a small cowboy hat on my wrist. I've gotten a fun tattoo for every state I've lived & it was time for my Texas one! Annabelle was free and was so down for a quick tattoo. She suggested a single needle because it was so small & it turned out AMAZING. I came here in January (2016) I swore I wrote a review but I guess I forgot... I got my tattoo done by Giovanni (I hope I spelled it right) he was super nice! The owner was also there and was super friendly! It was my first tattoo so I was super nervous but they calmed me down and reassured me everything would turn out great! The first time I visited Electric 13, it was on a whim. I walked in without an appointment and explained what I wanted--an oryx skull with flowers. As chance would have it, the first artist with an opening was Paco, whom I later learned was the owner. My finished tattoo was everything I wanted and more! Paco is very attentive to detail and revised the design until he was satisfied with its quality. Several months later, I made an appointment with Paco to tattoo a coffee plant on other side of my arm. It happened to fall on my last day of work before leaving Texas, so several of my coworkers came with me. While I was initially worried that this would be an annoyance, the staff at Electric 13 welcomed everyone with open arms...and every single one of my friends ended up leaving with tattoos! So usually the morning after getting a tattoo I have that split second where I see it in the mirror and think "what the hell did I do?!" Don't get me wrong, I love my tattoos, but something about their permanency catches up with you after the rush has worn off. This morning when I saw the ART that Paco gifted me with I was still 100% in love with it. I've never been so happy with a tattoo in my life. Electric 13 is a beautiful shop on Guadalupe at the beginning of the drag near campus. You can tell that their attention to detail isn't just given to their work by the care they've taken with making their environment so inviting and warm. Paco is my new favorite person (sorry mom!). He has the lightest hand I've ever been tattooed by...ever. You know that first moment when they say "here we go" and the needle touches down? Yeah, that happened and I didn't even grit my teeth. He's magic with a needle which I can already tell is going to be bad for my wallet because the only thing keeping me from being covered in tattoos is the pain, and now that doesn't seem like such a big deal because of Paco. Through the entire process Paco was amazing. He was attentive and made sure to give me his undivided attention when I came in to talk to him about my ideas. How he was able to come up with something that I didn't even know I wanted is unbelievable. I had sent lots of pictures of things I liked and tried my best to communicate my likes and dislikes and what I wanted the end result to be, but I never expected him to pinpoint it so exactly. I have a tendency to say "i like feminine tattoos" and then show him a picture of something that doesn't at all seem feminine so it's kind of a miracle (or just a testament to him being awesome) that he was able to read my mind. So far we've just got the beautiful lines, and I've got another appointment to do the shading. At this point, I'm not sure I could love it more than I already do. I will be telling everyone I know to go to Paco. One of my friends put a deposit down and set an appointment immediately after he finished my tattoo. He's just that good. read more

Love this place! Paco Cendon is as efficient and professional as it gets, and his work is amazing, as he's done a few of my friends as well as me. I can't go anywhere else. His design of my idea was better than I could've ever imagined, and he even added some texturing to one piece of it afterwards, which we hadn't thought of before, to give it a really cool weathered look. Today I went with two friends, to get some info, and check out the place! We were quickly helped and had all our questions answered. 47-year-old nerd, yuppie, first-timer. Decided to get something classic with my wife's name on my shoulder to surprise her for Christmas. If you'd told me even 6 months ago I'd be doing this I'd have said you're crazy. So needless to say I was looking for a shop that would treat a first-timer well, and I'm happy to say I found one. The shop was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They really put me at ease. Heck sometimes I thought they were laying it on a little thick just to make this nerd feel better but who cares, I appreciated it. Gabe's work was great. It's not too ornate, at my request, but a classic design, with great detail, and something I'm the least likely to regret (and I don't)! The design took under a half an hour, and the inking itself took an hour. I'm sure due to a combination of his skill, the tattoo location, and the classic jazz he had on shuffle, I didn't have trouble tolerating the pain. I've certainly felt worse involuntarily ;-) After we finished, he gave me detailed aftercare instructions, and told me about his two-month guarantee. Bottom line, I heartily recommend Electric 13 and Gabe in particular if you're in the market. Go in sober, ask for advice, enjoy yourself! Came here for a Friday the 13th special event this past January. I love my tattoo and everyone was sooo great. Minus the heat and lack of seating I'm a happy camper. The line was killer but definitely worth the $20 spent. My Friday the 13th tattoo and the Texas tattoo I always wanted combined was a great deal! If you're shopping around for an artist right now stop wasting your time and get scheduled with Annabelle as soon as possible! I schedule with her just from her online portfolio without ever stepping into the shop, and still the communication and lead up to the actual appointment gave me the confidence I was working with a true professional. When I actually got there the shop was warm and inviting, and unlike so many shops you go to I felt like the artists i talked to were actual people instead of a bunch of holier than thow tattoo snobs who think they are gods gift to tattooing. I've got tattoos over just about every different part of my body and between a full side piece and stomach tattoo I definitely wasn't looking forward to another on the stomach. Honestly though, I had to ask Annabelle several times if she was even tattooing me, this was the least painful tattoo I've ever had done and I could have sat through her work literally all day and then some. More than just a soft hand though, the tattoo looks identical to the reference... like I'm almost afraid she snuck in one of those tattoos you got as a kid where they just transfer a sticker with a little water. Probably the best part of it all though was how personable she is, I immediately felt like I was talking to a friend and never once felt like this was just her doing a job, you can tell she really loves what she does and she's without a doubt the best at what she does. I've got tattoos from dudes in magazines, and guys with convention awards lining their workspace, but this was by far the best experience I've had in well over a decade of getting tattoos. 5 stars isn't enough! I'm absolutely amazed that no one has reviewed Electric 13, not only are they badass, but they are super nice and fairly priced. The shop is located above Storyville on the Drag, across from Veggie Heaven and there is a parking lot behind the shop so you don't have to go far after your skin has been inked all up. I went in because I had wanted to add more to my back, by the time I left I had paid my $20 deposit to get my chest piece drawn up and was told I should be getting a call in the next couple days. When I went in with my original idea, Derek was really cool about telling me what would work and what wouldn't. When I realized my original idea was way lame, I mentioned that I was interested in getting a chest piece that was fancy scrollwork like. He immediately grabbed some paper and a pencil and started sketching what I wanted. Bangin'. My deposit went towards the total cost of my tattoo and he had a couple variations for me a couple days later. I went in, he did the placement three times to make sure it was perfect and got to work. It was just black lines, but he was done in 45 minutes. Start to finsh. No shit. I've gotten lots of tattoos and none have been done so fast or so beautifully. I got to listen to Bob Marley and Paco, the dude who owns the place, stopped in while Derek was working and showed his major approval for my new piece. I was so nervous and it hurt like hell, but because it was done so fast, I didn't really have too much time to complain. And even though I was sort of a puss, Derek was very patient with me and just kept telling me to breathe. The shop was spotless, the artist is amazing. Derek is very laid back and honest about what he can do. Take your idea and he'll make it happen. He is the fastest tattooist I've ever seen and he compromises nothing, he's just really fucking good. I had a friend from college visiting Austin in July, and she decided she wanted to get her first tattoo while there. I had never been tatted in Austin before, so we just googled shops in the area and this one came up -- thank goodness it did. We went in and my friend explained what she wanted but that she had a strict budget; they drew up a design for her and whisked her off to the back. I was a little nervous since we'd just given this shop a try on the whim, but Gio (a visiting artist) did my friends tattoo and it was BEAUTIFUL. Detailed, shading, it was a gorgeous piece of artwork -- she and I both freaked out. Recently I decided I wanted another tattoo. I have a few small ones, all not very good work, so I was a little nervous to get another but knew this shop could be trusted. Gabe was very patient with me as I went back and forth on what size I wanted my tattoo, where I wanted it, etc.; he never made me feel bad for being unsure or nervous, and helped me pick exactly where would be a good place for me to have the tattoo. Not only that, but my tattoo is stunning. There actually aren't even words to describe how beautiful this tattoo is. He put so much detail into it, so much effort, I mean you can tell he really thought it out and wanted to make it look as good as possible. I can't stop staring at it. I'll post a photo once it's healed, but wow, I will never, ever, ever go to another tattoo shop. I'm so glad that Platinum Ink turned me down last night because the tattoo that I got from Paco is amazing. It's super clean and the price was a steal for the quality. The guys were very friendly and made me and my friends feel comfortable. Today is the 4th of July and Paco didn't plan on keeping the shop open, but when I called in and sent an e-mail, he let me come in to get tattooed on his day off. If you want a great, fairly priced tattoo, definitely come by to Electric 13. If you want Paco to work on you, you probably need to call in advance and set up an appointment because from what I heard today, he's booked until September. POW! Got my second tatt from Electric 13 since I live close to the UT campus. I heard alot about this place but couldn't get my first one there due to artist client schedule conflicts. But this place is great! I literally called the dude on the phone saying "i dont know what I want, i just want to get another tatt" he said "come on over we'll find something for ya". And they actually took out books and books and books of art to pull inspiration from. They are very patience and funny. I love this place. I've gotten 2 tattoos and a nose piercing here, and I will definitely go back for anything else I plan to have done. TC did my most recent tattoo. I called on a Wednesday morning on a whim since I was in the area. He called me back minutes later and asked what I wanted to have done, if there would be any color, etc etc. He was very nice and told me that he'd make time to do this since I was only around for a few more hours. He persuaded me to get the tat filled in (instead of just the outline, which I was originally thinking) and I'm sooo glad he did! All of his suggestions were helpful and much appreciated. I've gotten my last four tattoos from Zach and couldn't be happier with his work! He was at Austin Tattoo Company until pretty recently, when he moved over to Electric 13. He is such a great artist, I have full confidence in sending him photos/ideas/notes on what I'm thinking and letting him take the reigns and design it from there. This last one turned out so much better than I could've even imagined it! Even when you see the line sketch, you will have no idea how awesome it will look when he's done. That's because he's really incredible at using vivid hues to shade, highlight, and bring depth to the image. This most recent tattoo was a train wrapped around my leg, and he added purple and red beams of light in the background (which looked like a cubist sunset of sorts), a couple tiny birds, and pine tree sillhouettes. These details, and all the others on the train itself, are really striking. I've been getting loads of compliments on this tat! Also, I sat for a good five hours or so to get this done. I'm not gonna lie- it was damn sore for several days afterward. But I've never had a tattoo heal so well! There was hardly a scab at all and not even much peeling. I'm not sure how he managed to do that... but I'm a fan!! read more

I went into Electric 13 on a Tuesday evening, which was nice because it was pretty empty. I was promptly greeted, and we immediately started talking about what I was wanting for my design. I wanted script on my wrist but they were honest enough to tell me that over time it would blend together and they wouldn't do it. I greatly appreciate that because I think a lot of parlors would have just done it and taken my money without informing me. They talked me through where my design would work best and gave me some great information about color. Mig did incredible work and I would recommend him to anyone looking at getting a tattoo (especially their first). The atmosphere was chill, comfortable and very clean. All employees, especially Mig, were friendly, informative, humorous and talented! I highly recommend Electric 13 and will be back very soon! read more

This review isn't directly for the Electric 13 shop, but sort of a side note for one of their employees, Mig Kokinda He came out, with his wife, Gabel, and their two sons, on his own time today to the North Village Branch of the Austin Public Library to participate in a Meet the Maker event. He brought some sweet artwork and a specially designed image to represent the library and reading! There were several folks at our outdoor talk and demo. . . and then twenty kids showed up. You could tell from the first couple of questions that the kids were from a group home and that this was a pretty exciting opportunity for them. He kept going and showing the growing crowd how he does his awesome artwork, but questions like, "Do you know how to do grafitti?" and "When can we do the paint? When?" kept bombarding him, so he gave in to inevitability and dove right in with the best of spirits to let, oh, about 30 kids (and a few adults, too) come one after another and try spraying out basic shapes with some features. Was that exhausting? Yes. Was it hectic? Yes. Was it frustrating to see his art demo get taken over by kids who wanted to spray the can until it ran out of paint? Almost definitely, but you would not have been able to tell from the way he and his family jumped into it. Thanks for your patience, your excellence, and for giving to the community by letting a bunch of kids have a special experience today!! We really appreciate that you came to our event. I had a pretty decent sized first tattoo on my rib cage, and even though I've heard that it's one of the more painful places to get inked, it wasn't so bad. I honestly think that if it wasn't for Paco's funny and playful personality, I would've been in a lot more pain. The dude had me laughing while he had a needle scraping on my skin, over my rib bones. I'm not a huge reviewer, but I have been beyond impressed with not only the quality of the work, but the above and beyond accommodating staff and the fun environment. I had called another studio in town that said they were fine with walk-ins, however when we arrived the front desk person treated me like I was an idiot for not making an appointment. At that point, we switched to Electric 13 without an appointment. It was three of us, so we were kind of a curveball for the day. They handled it like complete professionals. They didn't have the manpower at that moment, so they offered to see if someone could come in early, let us know when most of the artists will be in, and took my phone number so if they got someone to come early they would give me a call. One of the artists even popped in during this conversation to see what we wanted and joked around with us for a bit. I was able to explain that I wanted to start a more detailed tattoo and they were receptive and open to getting it done. We walked around for a bit and grabbed a snack and came back. While we were waiting, we got updates on what's going on and potential wait times. Although it was a wait, it was well worth it. The vibe was very upbeat and fun the entire time. Once we got back, they all worked fast and efficiently, and the quality was not sacrificed for speed. The artists were laughing and joking back and forth with us the whole time. It was my first tattoo, and David worked with the start of my idea and took the idea and ran with it in a great way. Just the outline made me super happy, and I was very excited to finish it up. I came back today, and again was greeted warmly. Unfortunately traffic started the appointment late, but staff made sure I was updated. It was WELL worth the hiccup. The final product was beautiful, and far exceeded my expectations. I appreciated that even though it wasn't the exact match to what I initially showed him, it was completed with incredible skill and artistry. I'm so much happier that it was more inspired by the picture, it's unique to me and that makes it mean so much more. I never expect perfection in any service, but I appreciate when speed bumps are handled with grace, respect and ease. They go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. I left smiling both times, not only because of the product but the environment and the phenomenal staff. I'm ecstatic with my first tattoo and will definitely be returning for more. read more
