Visited Jesse when I was in Austin early '13, so when a few of us from our tour group decided to get some new (and first for one) ink while touring around Texas in May '14, I had no hesitation in paying him another visit - this time at his own shop. I let Jesse come up with his own ideas for my Texas based tattoo and am wrapped with the outcome yet again! As well as being a great artist, Jesse is also a pretty darn nice guy! When I eventually get the guts to get my sleeve done, I'll make the trek all the way to Austin to see Jesse again. Fun Fact - there's a cool dive bar a couple of doors down from the shop - pay a visit AFTER you get your new ink!

Round Two! So I had this "meh" looking retro robot. Jesse not only fixed up the robot but added a killer rococo frame around it. Flawless work again. I cannot say enough about Jesse and the whole shop. Keep up the good work!

I got a scorpion piece done with Eric here in Houston tx. He was really nice and I really liked the design and size that he suggested for the tattoo but the work itself turned out to be bad. It looked really good for the first 3 wks as any tattoo would look but after that, it started fading badly. It started looking like if I had the tattoo for like 5 yrs and it was only two months. I took care of it really good, I have other tattoos so I know the process.. it was horrible. I paid a price which I thought was good but when I asked other people they told me it was really high. Went to go get it retouched somewhere else and dude told me he would've charged me $80. I never bothered to hit up the tattoo artist again since he wasn't even from here but idk what it was that happened but I will not go back for another tattoo if I ever go to Austin. Horrible.

This tattoo exceeds any expectations I had going in. Eric was very easy to talk to about what I wanted and even gave me some pointers about things I was unsure about. The environment is awesome and the other artists there are both talented and friendly. I've only been to one other place for a tattoo before this one, but I'm not sure I'll be going anywhere else now. 5 out of 5 easy.

First, I would like to say I spent hours researching studios, I even paid deposits at multiple studios before deciding on this one. I consider myself has a highly critical, difficult-to-please customer who has very high expectations. I can say with 100% confidence that Black Dagger Tattoo and AJ, have exceeded my expectations by far. I came to AJ wanting a sleeve in a very short amount of time and he came through completing in just four visits. Not only that he designed the whole sleeve from ideas that I gave him and I was blown away at his vision. He is a true artist. However, I have followed the entire team's work and I can say AJ has assembled a team of the best. If you're looking for a tattoo you can feel confident in and that you will love for life, choose Black Dagger. I could go on and on about how great they are. Thanks AJ and Black Dagger, I am forever honored to have your art as a part of me for life. I plan on returning for more! Update: I loved the first sleeve I decided to do the second immediately. I have to say, just as amazing!!

I came in here almost a year ago to get a small tattoo for my birthday. I just wanted the words "be kind." I was a walk in and I can't remember the name of the tattoo artist but he was very kind and accommodating and got me in and out in about 30 minutes! At first I was very pleased with the tattoo as tattoos always look good after you first get them. But once it started to heal things weren't looking so good. A pretty simple tattoo is now patchy and really just ugly. I'm so disappointed in how it looks. Obviously, I called the shop and explained what was going on and if I could come in to get it touched up. The artist wasn't there at the time but the guy that answered the phone said he'll get the message to the artist and he will call us back. Unfortunately, he never called us back. A little bit later, we moved out of Austin and just decided to deal with it at a later date. I'm really sad about how it looks even when I took really good care of it as it's not my first tattoo nor my biggest. I hope everyone is cautious as they think about going here if you want a simple tattoo, because it seems they might mess it up. My regular tattoo artist is Annie Alonzi at Triple Crown Tattoo so you should go there instead!

This is such a rad shop. All of the artists at that shop (AJ, Jesse, Nate, and Jeremy) are fantastic, and fun to hang out with. I'm always stoked to go by the shop either to get tattooed, or even just to hang out. Anytime friends/people ask where to get tattooed, I have/always will recommend this shop.

I've been going to black dagger for nearly two years now and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! Max & Zack are incredible, kind, and so accommodating. Every tattoo I have gotten done by them has healed so beautifully. The shop is always clean and everyone who works there is so welcoming. 10/10!! My wife and I have only had really great experiences at Black Dagger Tattoo. Miranda is an amazing artist to work with, she's super kind and personable. Everyone in the shop is friendly and easy-going. We've made several appointments in the past few months but they're also open to walk-ins. Max Klapp is an unreal artist! I went in for my first tattoo and he made my time there so fun :) he let me personalize my tattoo and we picked fun colors together and I really felt so happy with the design. He saw the vision I wanted and nailed it. I ended up getting 2 pieces and they are so special. We had a blast chatting and it really distracted me from the pain of the tattoo and he checked in periodically to see how I was feeling :) the care and quality can't be beat with Max. Book with him, you'll leave with amazing Art and a damn good time. I'll be back Max!! Thank you again! Also the shop is so dang cute , clean and cozy. If you're looking for the most badass tattoo artist I suggest going here and requesting Royce! He has done many of my tattoos and is just an awesome guy all around. He adds such a creative twist to the ideas that you bring to him that you'll never want to go to anyone else. The shop itself is super cool and has a great group of people, so even if you can't get in with Royce you will definitely be able to find another amazing artist. read more

Dropped in with my sister to get matching tattoos. We went in with an idea for a simple, traditional design with only line work. TC accommodated us as walk-ins, and everything went super well! His lines are clean, we loved his design, and he talked us through any questions or concerns. In the 2 hours we were there, we had a great time chatting with the staff. The shop is clean and comfortable. In the 2 days since getting my new tattoo, I've already received compliments! read more

Got a tattoo by Karina at black dagger tattoo. I showed her what I wanted in a email and she came up with a really beautiful design. She was amazing! She has such a light hand and her line work is incredible!! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by someone to make sure I was taken care of and it seems like a really nice, chill shop. Jeremy was able to take a photograph and turn it into a beautiful traditional tattoo for me. He has done all my work. We have been working on a sleeve since September 2018. Jeremy is completely chill and will tell you funny adventure stories while tattooing . He's my guy. He can also be your guy... if you're nice. He is fast and his lines are clean. I get more compliments on my tattoos. A true artist read more

So I've been ruminating on my tattoo for years, hyping it up since forever. I'm visiting my cousin for her wedding and she is tatted to the nines, I've always admired her tattoos. During the reception, her tattoo artist TC is at the wedding. We exchange info and he says he can fit me afterhours the next day (I am flying out the day after and have limited time). We arrive and immediately, I knew this would be awesome. TC is knowledgeable, reflective, funny, engaging, and professional. Before I knew it, the session was over and 3hrs had passed. I recommend this place to everybody. They have the skills and experience to give you an awesome tattoo. Also, if they can't take care of you, they have the professional grace to point you in the right direction. Something that most shops won't admit or be humble enough to do. read more

I have been tattooed by Jesse twice. Once at his old shop, and again at his new shop. Great line work. Great artistry. Great artistic vision. My dad was a local musician (Don Walser of Don Walser and the Pure Texas Band) and I wanted to get his guitar tattooed on my arm. I had an idea of what I wanted and Jesse knocked it out of the park. I also got 3 roses around the guitar and the detail was amazing. I've gotten so many compliments on that tattoo. I recently went back and got a hamsa tattoo in American Traditional style. He took a Jewish good luck charm and made it in the style of a sugar skull. I've gotten even more compliments on this tattoo because it's more visible. Hell, I even got a "your skin is beautiful" compliment from a woman. Can't say enough good things. Jesse will be finishing my arm over the next few years! read more

I've been to Nic approximately six times now to work on my arm; he designed peonies after patiently listening to my painfully vague description of what I envisioned. I'm thrilled with my tattoo and it's better than what I could have imagined. I've also healed relatively well in comparison to other tattoos because of Nic's abilities. Nic is incredibly talented, creative, and easy to communicate with for appointment availability and design. I originally met him at a different shop, but he has since moved to Black Dagger. I absolutely love this shop; everyone is kind and positive. You can tell that they're all passionate about their craft and support each other. The level of respect between the artists and apprentices is apparent, and it really shows in the overall atmosphere at this shop. I would absolutely recommend Nic, or any Black Dagger artist after my experiences here. read more

I've been tattoo'd (is that how ya spell it??) by Eric Solis four times and can't wait to go back again. I truly believe Eric is an amazing artist who is so dedicated to his craft. When it comes to designing the tattoo he really listens and works around thoughts and nails it every time! I can't begin to tell you how many compliment his work on a day to day life! These dudes are nothing less than A+. I've been tattooed several times here, and each time is a total treat. Today I had my solar plexus tattooed by Eric and he was an absolute angel. Not gonna lie, getting tattooed hurts, but he made it as painless and quick as possible while also taking into consideration all of the cool details I wanted and laying down a solid piece that's gonna look amazing for years to come. Called ahead, legit was told to come in and they could see if they could squeeze me in, guy at front says "oh we should forsure be able to do that", dissapears into the back for hella long and then after like 20 mins comes back out and just starts sketching someone else's tattoo or something. Never acknowledged us again or remembered we were even there. Just wasted like 45 mins of my time to get a tattoo somewhere else. read more

Max at Black Dagger made me feel very comfortable and was more than happy to make design alterations to ensure that I was completely satisfied with my design. I got my first tattoo at Black Dagger a week ago and plan on going back to get a few more. Several friends had recommended Black Dagger, so I went in on a Monday night just to get a feel for the place. I felt comfortable and at ease, the place was clean, and the men were friendly. I spoke with Jeremy first, who explained the process to me as I was a bundle of nerves. He recommended Eric who was available and after looking at his portfolio I was ready to get it done the same night. Eric did a spectacular job (for a great price too!) and I love my tattoo. A friend of mine recently got tattooed here and recommended Eric. After looking through his portfolio on Instagram, i was really inspired and emailed him about my idea. Eric was wonderful to work with, receptive to feedback and came up with an amazing design that I love! Eric talked me through why certain design elements either won't work for the location I wanted to place it. He talk through the process/what he was doing and why. The shop is very clean and all the other tattoo staff were friendly as well. He had such a light touch and is quick, but no loss in quality, and not too painful. I was in shop for about 2 hours. I was able to pay my deposit with Paypal, but had to pay with cash for the rest of the tattoo, just something to keep in mind. They have an ATM in the back for convenience. Overall a great experience and i definitely recommend Eric! read more

Im not surprised that every review on here is 5 stars! This place is awesome. Specifically Karina. She did my cosmetic brows. I was so nervous that they would look completely awful - even though pics of her previous work looked really great (hence why I chose her). I was scared because, well, after all they are smack dab on the front of my face in plain sight. She was professional, and clean. She made me feel comfortable and overall the fine line brows look really good (even on day 1). There wasnt any pain associated with them - a mild scratching sensation I would say. The price was fair. Everyone seemed nice and docile. The restroom was clean. I enjoyed my experience and cant wait to go back for touch ups and to see the final product. Updates to come. Whyyyy can't i give 10 stars?? Such a great experience at Black Dagger this week!! Felt right at home from the time we walked in. (6:00 pm on tuesday, my pal and I were seen immediately) TC was my artist and was MORE than accommodating to someone who has not been tattooed very often. He explained sizing and positioning and gave me a BEAUTIFUL tattoo that I adore. Annd he made me laugh so much that i needed to be told to stay still hehe. Great group of dudes at this shop for sure. Thus, I came to my own conclusion that pricing is completely random and up to the artist. I guess it's a game of luck? That being said, Carlos did a wonderful job on my tattoo and Hannah did a great job on my friend's. Carlos and I had a lot to talk about as we were raised in the same city and he went to my highschool while I was also in attendance. Wild stuff! Still, for what we got, I wouldn't have paid more than $150 + tip for this tattoo. There needs to be a length requirement or some rules and regulations for pricing (I know this is not easy). Having a tattoo no one but me knows is there still serves its purpose for me. I'm still looking for someone who will work with me on this tattoo before I consider others. I wanted to have "him" with me in some way for the rest of my life... enter ZULU. I am a hairdresser, and a wonderful client of mine said to me one day as we were discussing tattoos, "there's nobody on earth I'd let tattoo me other than Zulu". This is HIGH praise coming from this particular woman, so I looked him up. As soon as I went to his website, I felt an energy that I can only describe as "this is it, this is my guy", I knew it immediately. Browsing through his work, I was blown away. His meticulous attention to detail is unmatched. He is an ARTIST of the highest degree. His website images don't do justice to the work- I don't think any picture of his work can do his art justice. You *have* to see it to believe it. I had a consultation with him, and shared with him images of things I liked, and things I'm drawn to, but mostly I wanted him to create it. Several days later, he sent me an image of what he came up with, and it was a slam dunk, just as I knew it would be. It took 3 sessions to complete, and it is a MASTERPIECE. I love the art on my forearm so much it's stupid. I get so much attention because it's so incredible. I even met Prince's band The Revolution, and they were blown away! Wendy and Lisa couldn't stop touching it! Anyway, you get my point, right? So here's another thing... Zulu himself is an amazing human being. He and I had the most wonderful conversations and now he's my friend forever. Choose Zulu as your artist and you'll have more than just a tattoo, you'll have a masterpiece.

So this past weekend was my first experience directly under the hand of Zulu. Since we visited a…read morefew months ago for him to work on my wife's back, he and I have been in contact about what I've had planned for the remainder of the sleeve on my right arm. Because I travel for 6 months of the year the remainder of our conversations have been via email and also a 30 minute FaceTime consultation while I was overseas in place of a telephone call. Khani (shop mgr/wife) has done a wonderful job throughout of keeping the flow going and making sure that Zulu was available to discuss issues with me as needed. Zulu spent a considerable amount of time prepping for our arrival this trip as I had provided a number of different pieces of Tibetan art work to use for reference on my arm. After the FaceTime consult he fully understood what I wanted and that he was also given full artistic license to do what looked right and would flow with what I already had on my arm. He is only the second artist I've aver talked to that immediately got my concept and was genuinely excited about doing the work I was requesting. This was first obvious to me when we originally visited, but once we had talked and he started the work on the final design, the true light came out in Zulu. I arrived about 15 minutes early to the studio and just sat while he continued to collect his thoughts and worked to get the various pieces setup. We started with a fitting of the largest piece that would be done which was a full incarnation of Mara in demon form. Zulu only needed to resize it once and then worked on the angle and layout on my forearm (which is not big in any way) however, he laid it out to allow for the rest of the piece around and on the back of my arm. Once we had it fully laid out he applied the initial stencil for Mara and then he got to work. Zulu uses a rotary gun to apply his tattoos (as does Pinky which makes for a soothing sound in the small space). The beauty of this style of application is that unlike a normal gun that basically hammers you throughout the process, the rotary is more like a smooth flowing motion. When you add this to the extremely delicate touch that Zulu has while tattooing it makes for the absolute most pleasurable experience I've had to date. There was literally no pain until about the last 10 minutes of the session. We took a total of 4.5 hours to do all of the outline work for my arm, the detail in person looks unlike any I previously thought possible from a tattoo. His classical art training comes out when he works and his chair side manor is beyond reproach. The music in the studio is also spot on allowing Zulu to get into his groove and produce the beginnings of a masterpiece. I say beginnings because I can't wait to come back to finish the color and shading in November. Bottom line: if you want something that is truly a masterpiece on you as the canvas...than Zulu is the person to do it for you. There is no longer a need for me to search out an artist for my other projects, Zulu has a client for life.

When I got word Jesse and AJ opened up their own, I was so happy for them and I couldn't wait to come in check out the shop. The shop is amazing, great location, and even more so that I live in the neighborhood, and I notice more people moving to that area. I've been getting tattooed by Jesse for about a year now. Honestly, this man, never ceases to amaze me! I came to Jesse with three basic things; a snake, a Victorian skeleton key, and lightning, and it was all this piece. And I let him run wild with it, and it is his vision. HE.HAS.KILLED.IT!!! I very much support people and places I truly believe in, this is one of those places. I recently got an AMAZING tattoo from AJ. I had an older tattoo that didn't have much meaning for me- it was just something I did when I was 17. I asked him to do a sugar skull with some roses around it and incorporate the old tattoo. He did an awesome job! The tattoo is flawless, there's no way to even distinguish the old tattoo from the rest of the piece. He made it all flow together seamlessly and the new piece I have now is one that I am proud to show off! The shop has racks of flash that the tattooers hand painted all over the walls, which in and of itself is quite impressive! BDT is the best damn tattoo parlor I've ever been to. The first time I went into the shop, it was because of a friend's referral. I had a day off and I needed a new tattoo. I had an appointment with TC and let me tell you. That guy knows how to please his customers. He had to redraw the design and even made it work on a spot that originally wasn't going to work. Much respect to that man. Will for sure be getting more tattoos from TC.. Thanks man! I love it. read more

Been tattooed here by Eric and Aj, great work, great shop vibe, great flash. The dagger Eric Solis did for me was so badass that someone tried to mug me a few days after I got tattooed and the dagger flew right off my arm and stabbed the mugger in the leg. Thanks for saving my life Eric! read more
