We went here on a Thursday night after hearing about it. It definitely doesn't seem like you're right up the street from Glenwood. This place transports you to a different era with live jazz, delicious cocktails, and ample seating. A great place to get lost and forget about the world outside. It seems they have a lot of solid talent coming in regularly, too. Quick service, talented bartenders, cover for now is free but they do hope you get something inside--their cocktails are fantastic so not a hard drawl. read more

I popped in briefly one evening after dinner at a restaurant nearby. The individual at the door entry was extremely kind and welcoming. This was a Saturday evening. The space was overcrowded and there wasn't a place to sit. The music sounded nice, the space had a heavily intimate atmosphere, as jazz spaces often do. Whether a date night with the boo or a girls' night out enjoying live music here may be a unique experience. read more

Finally got a chance to make it here on a Tuesday night when the draft beer and cocktails are $5. So they have a selection of about 8 cocktails that are on draft so I chose the espresso martini and the ranch water which both were good. The bartender also let you sample before deciding. The place is pretty dark inside with lots of different seating. It's really cute. Will have to come back when they play live jazz music. read more

Such a good find in smoky hollow! The vibes are incredible, I've been following their Instagram account but I finally got to visit myself! The drinks were so good, they had frozen and shaken cocktails. We went on a Saturday evening, it was decently crowded and 2 bartenders but did not have to wait long for our drinks. This place has an absolutely amazing vibe and differs from most other bars in Raleigh because of the more mature crowd (not all college students). One of the owners Tyler came up and talked to us for 10 minutes just to get to know his customers and we felt so appreciated!! Amazing drinks and even better people. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in the Raleigh area, check it out! read more

"Moon Room Wednesdays" are my favorite night in Raleigh. they have the best selection of THC drinks of any bar in the Triangle; i'm uh, partial to Groovewagon and they have 3mg Magnifico on draft, 10mg Magnifico and Fencehopping in cans, and then a bunch of other pretty solid options as well. it's S-Tier jazz (WITH NO COVER), and unlike the weekends (which are cool in their own right, just way more popping) it's in the sweet spot of 'definitely a scene' without being overwhelmingly crowded. bartenders are lovely, and Tim the doorman is the best doorman anywhere in the world. What an incredible find. We were trying to kill some time while our daughter was at a concert at Red Hat. We had heard about Smoky Hollow area so decided to park & walk around the area. Most places had closed up but a very friendly door man suggested we come inside to take a look. We were thrilled to see that it was a jazz bar. I felt like we were in a big city like NYC. Such an awesome place. Live Music was great, interesting drinks and cozy atmosphere. We will definitely be going again. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful time. It had been on our radar for a while. We finally made it out to see Al on Friday. We got there around 8. It gets very crowded but manageable. If you don't like standing just get there early. We promptly went to the bar and got our drinks and found a cozy spot standing against the wall. There was a young lady taking drink orders for the whole bar if you didn't want to wait at the bar. She was working it! We never went back to the bar. Eventually we were able to snag two prime seats in the front. We loved the music and the vibes! We look forward to coming back. Please check them out! read more

Moonroom was on my list to places to visit for weeks and we finally went there. Surprisingly it is like the kind of spot you can find in New York. Jazzy vibes and huge leather sofas, this is a small and cozy environment in the dark where a full moon illuminates the space from above the bar. Let's talk about the bar: affordable drinks, we were surprised of some drinks that are previously prepared and put on draft like beer before bar service. What a great idea to make cocktail service quicker. Between $10 and $16 for cocktails. My wife had a Frozen Margarita and I ordered a Nitro Espresso Martini and it was served on draft. Strong drinks. The live band played from 8 to 11PM. Check on there Instagram to know the line up and dates for live music. Also, a cool thing to know is that there's a photobooth inside. Moon Room is not a safe space for Black people. My friend was assaulted by a lady who was trying to bully her to "move out of her way to see her son on stage" and literally the entire place is crowded! She had nothing to say to the white people who were also sitting on that area of the couch. She shoved my friend who could have fallen on the floor if she didn't catch herself. When my friend defends herself and tells her not to put her hands on her, the woman then goes to the bouncer and he sides with the lady, the aggressor and she was allowed to stay at the establishment. The manager did not have that assailant removed. Unbelievable! I will never go here again and trust, everyone I know will be warned not to go here either. read more

Wow, I was so surprised after trying Brewery Bhavana when we first moved here. When you arrive…read moreparking can be difficult in this area as the restaurant backs up to Moore Square. I'd recommend parking a few blocks away and walking if you are unable to find parking nearby. Walking into the restaurant you'll be transported to a modern brewery, bookstore, and flower shop. It feels chic, Belgian inspired, and upscale. To start I ordered a Vase IPA which was excellent. I then switched to cocktails and ordered the Black Sesame Old Fashioned (bourbon, black sesame, black walnut bitters), the Dionysus (pinot noir, raspberry lemon shrub, chambord, amaretto, lemon, rhubarb bitters), and an aviation (hendricks, luxardo, creme de violette, lemon). By far the Black Sesame Old Fashioned was my favorite and what a nice touch with cracker on top of the dish. For food we ordered the Gai Lan (Stir-fried Chinese broccoli with garlic and oyster sauce), the Peking Duck (Whole, barbecued, free-range duck served with steamed bao buns, cucumber, scallions, and hoisin-honey sauce), Sweet Soy Chicken (Scallions, bell peppers, and caramelized in our ginger soy sauce. Served with jasmine rice), the Lo Mein Noodles (Stir-fried noodles with julienned shiitake mushrooms, choy sum greens, soy sauce, and shrimp), seafood dumplings (Lobster, shrimp, and scallop dumplings served in garlic and black mushroom sauce with fried Youtiao doughnuts), Chicken Curry Bao (Steamed buns filled with spicy yellow chicken and vegetable curry), the Beef with Longhorn Peopers (Sautéed beef, ginger, and longhorn peppers with Shaoxing wine sauce. They have a very extensive inventory of bourbons including all the high-end ones you would want. The bartenders making amazing recipes including my partners favorite, Tom Yum, taste just like the soup. I can often enjoy a whiskey sour with no issue and use the menu to try something different. They don't serve food, so it's a good place to come after dinner. The ambiance is simple, a wooden bar and now that they have expanded, they have some tables as well. This past trip was the most crowded I've ever seen it in there, but the service was still quick and attentive. This bar is a staple for me.
