We tried Clockwork for the first time on Mother's Day and it was fantastic! Kelly the GM was a huge part of that, telling us all about their new focus on food and not just cocktails we had every item on the tapas menu (half price from 5-7!) and everything was great. Especially the deep fried cauliflower, gnocchi, Caesar salad, bruschetta - all of it. Great fresh take on a margarita too (The Part Time Lover). And Kelly brought us a (BIG) sample of their delicious gelato straticello (chocolate chip, pictured). Our entire bill, including drinks, was under $70! My best friend and I stumbled upon Clockwork after leaving an event nearby hungry, and many of the other businesses in the area we wanted to eat at are closed on Tuesdays. You'd never guess from the outside how cute it is inside. It has a warm, cozy, yet fun feel. We were seated right away and brought menus. The staff was super friendly and super helpful with suggestions. We ordered drinks and entrees. Although small, the menu has something for everyone, from falafel tacos, carne asada tacos, salad to pasta!! And a great note to add, most of their dishes are freshly made in-house each day. Funky, mod and a bit psychedelic, Clockwork resides in a small narrow space that used to house an architectural company. With a cool, roll-up garage door fronting the space, inside Clockwork is an array of textures, patterns and colors that will stimulate your occipital lobe. Let's just say the place has interesting decor. While it's still in its newly opened mode, Clockwork is dishing out cocktails, small plates and some other goodie. The space is comfortable and very urban but only time will tell what kind of a Glenwood crowd it draws in. So yeah, the place is nice but I'll withhold judgement for now because a bar is really heavily defined by its patrons and it's just too early. But if you're looking for a visual escape from the normal, stop on by, grab a cocktail and chill out. read more

This hot spot has a fun vibe with awesome wall paper and great furniture. The lights seem to always be at a cool romantic dim... It's a great date spot or place to hit up with a friend. I love their Hot n Dirty vodka martini, but they have beer and wine too. They have a wide array of food to choose from as well. I really enjoyed the falafel tacos and their trio dip platter is a great snack or starter. I love that the front "wall" rolls back too so they welcome the outside weather in on nice days. My girlfriend and I went to dinner and wanted to find a bar to have a few drinks and listen to some music. We looked this place up and showed up and quickly realized that this was the type of ambiance we were looking for. Single table with different style chairs with a small candle in the center. Warm low lighting. The owner was there which for me shows a owner who is a fan of his own bar and takes pride in the quality of the establishment. The only thing I didn't care for was the bartender who was acting way to busy for us for some reason even though it was barely packed. I couldn't imagine how she performs on a busy night. I fell in with Clockwork. One of the best bars I have found yet! Great atmosphere, decorative creativity, yummy drinks and they offer food as well! First off, the location is perfect off Glenwood avenue. I was already in the area finishing up dinner when I see Clockwork and it's beautifulness, just walking distance for some post-dinner cocktails! I ordered myself a delicious Bliss O' Bliss, which contains: Bacardi Select Rum, Guava Juice, Muddled lime and a hint of Mazaher (Orange blossom water) - definitely recommend it. I later had a couple more drinks (why not) like a mule and a gin and tonic and found that my bill was better priced than I had expected. The decor and general atmosphere of the bar is my favorite part of Clockwork. The different mismatched chairs and tables from different eras of life and fashion, melted candle displays, the eccentric wallpaper (walls and ceiling) and the bar chandeliers. Hell, they even have built in speakers and recessed lighting - that's a rarity in The South if you ask me! I definitely recommend it to anyone, and I will be back again to try the food next time. We'd heard about Clockwork as an awesome cocktail bar, but got super excited when we looked at their food menu shortly after they went on OpenTable. We definitely didn't need our reservation at 6 on a Saturday, as we were the only people not at the bar (maybe 3 other people just getting drinks). Maybe it was because of this, but the service was fantastic. They recommended Last Tango in Paris as a sweeter cocktail and they came through- delicious! We got a number of small plates, starting with homemade cheese with honey and pita points, which was cold, but very good. The Spinach Salad was excellent, as was the Pimento Cheese Sandwich (with fries, of course). The Fried Cheese balls were just okay, but overall, we were not disappointed in the least! The only semi-off thing we could find was the prices we were charged were just slightly different than the prices on the menu (just a few cents here and there, but still odd...). read more

Oh my! How have I never been here before? And how do I begin to describe the decor? "Mad Men" meets "Alice in Wonderland" meets Acid Trip, perhaps. A friend of mine and I were planning to go somewhere else, but it was closed for a private event. It was cold. We were starving. We didn't want to walk far. Enter Clockwork. Just everything here was top-notch: the service, the food, the drinks, the ambiance, the music. It was a Monday night, so it wasn't crowded at all, and I enjoyed having some breathing room at this venue. Let me start by talking about our server. She was the cutest little thing and I am embarrassed to say I don't even know her name. Sweet, personable, and cute as a button. She was learning how to concoct some of the cocktails and let me just say- whomever was teaching her was simply flawless. I had an Old Fashioned to start. Perfect ingredients. A little on the strong side, but that didn't overpower the flavor of the cocktail. Immensely enjoyed. Then with my dinner I changed gears and tried a Moscow Mule. (I usually enjoy brown liquors, but I am really just intrigued by those tin glasses in which Mosow Mules are served). Once again: perfection in a glass. I wasn't too sure about the food- I had never really heard anything about this place, so I wasn't certain what to expect. What I ended up experiencing was perfection. I had the steak sandwich. It was juicy, delicious, and hearty. I opted for a salad instead of fries (go me!) and it was served with an orange vinaigrette. Yummy. My friend had the crab ravioli and she loved it. I tried a bite and found it to be quite satisfying, as well. We shared a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Creamy and delicious, it was just the perfect way to end our meal. We took photos in front of the big drippy wax candles. So dramatic looking! They were beautiful, gothic, and photo-worthy. I love the lamps, the various wall papers, the chairs.....everything. The only question I am left with is: When can I venture back down this rabbit hole, into this unique venue again? read more

Surprisingly, yesterday was my first time visiting Clockwork. I am very happy I made it in. The ambience and service is really what got this 5 star rating. The interior of this bar/restaurant is DOPE to say the least. It is screaming with flavors, colors, textures, fabrics, patterns, and more. My group of four settled toward the front on the quiet night in an area with lower seating, chairs, and a nice coffee table. The front of the space has a garage door so having it open on a nice fall night is something you won't want to miss. Make sure to stop by Clockwork for some drinks and a cool experience. Great place to grab a drink! When it comes to drinks, consistency is a must/key! Clockwork delivers as I've been to this establishment several occasions. The vibe is great and the DJ's selection of music greatly matches the overall vibe and atmosphere of the place. More importantly, the bartenders "understood" what the customer specifically ordered/wanted and they delivered (Yes, it's a difficult skill to master as bartender). My first time visiting this bar, I will never return. I came to experience a band that I like. I'm sitting at the bar and the brunette took my drink order. I paid and didn't leave a tip (I prefer leaving a cash tip). I ordered my second round with the same woman and she visibly had an attitude, so on the receipt I told her to "fix her fucking attitude" a blonde woman later asked me to leave stating that "I don't talk to her employees that way". What happened to "the customer being first" she never asked what happened, she just assumed that I her rude ass employee was right. You guys should really be careful how you treat people. read more

Really, meh. The decor might be pretty, but it's not worth another shot. We went early on a November Friday night and it was packed. Like, can't get to the restroom packed. And so loud that I could barely hear my husband sitting right across from me. The crowd wasn't especially pleasant either. When attempting to make it to the restroom, the folks standing near the bar were not happy to accommodate my through-way, and some dude tried to consciously block my husband from the getting to the restroom. In the most inconspicuous corner of Glenwood and North St hides Clockwork, the newest addition of cocktail bar to the Glen So lineup. I would love to say I can give you a glimpse of the regular treatment at Clockwork, but when a friend and I arrived around 7 PM on a Friday evening, the door was still bolted shut. I can see through the glass door the female bartender was busy doing side work, prepping the bar for opening. After an hour or so visiting the bar around the corner, we returned to Clockwork, now alive and kicking. Pushed open the door, and instantly we get this place: it's a modern European cocktail bar. Why European? The decors. And the non-stop 80's retro pop music overhead. Somehow feeling like we were sorta out of place, I leaned in and asked the female bartender. It seems this night was still a "friends and family night," but we were more than welcome to stay for a drink, and some samples from the kitchen. We chose to forsake the hand tossed pizza, and got a couple Bombay Sapphire gin & tonic; I would have gotten Beefeater gin, but the mid-shelf and top-shelf behind the bar were still being stocked, so no Beefeater for me. Overall, from what we've seen, this place has good potential, and I'll come back again once they are in full swing. 4 stars. (366 review! 366 days! I did it! My friends and I decided to come here on a night out. We were told by security that the bar was at capacity however there were people being let in left and right. We then noticed the manager standing next to security directing him on what to say. When we asked her why we were not being let in, we were met with something to the likes of the fact that we look too young and look like we would cause trouble. Now, all of my friends and I are 21 and above and all had ID to prove so. We were racially profiled and it is frankly disgusting in this day and age. Guys, to be honest, I'm not really sure what I walked into. But I liked it a lot. I'd definitely call this a lounge, and a modern eclectic one at that. I wonder if they were trying to model it after one of the Clockwork Orange clubs... Anyways, even though they were a bit short staffed, the bartenders were attentive, and the music wasn't blaring. Whichever model chair you decided to sit in, whether it be the studded black chair shaped like a hammerhead shark, or the grandmothers pink micro suede chair, they were hella comfortable. That in itself is a great conversation starter with anybody. The drinks were great, BIG wine pours and well mixed cocktails. I also loved that they had their bay door open, very inviting and made the space cool and well ventilated. I definitely want to come back for their food! Gotta give a shoutout to the DJ for the night; they had a pretty weird mix of music from Eurythmics to Christina Aguilera to EDM music... their music choice was as eclectic and unique as their decor. I am so lucky to be able to see this place from my living room and it's so easy to just walk on over! The hubby and I went on their opening weekend night last Friday. It was crowded, but a nice crowded...not too crazy. I immediately was blown away by the decor when I walked in. I love the wallpaper, lighting, and furniture - it's so eccletic and mismatched, yet it all works together beautifully. We were lucky enough to grab a quaint little table for 2 with oversized leather chairs. So cozy!! The server came right over to greet us and give us the menu. They do have a small selection of food - mostly pizza. I have to say - the topping choices sound terrific and I'll definitely check that out in the near future. This visit was to check out the drinks. They have a decent selection of cocktails, beer, and wine. The hubby got the spicy jalapeno drink...forget the name, but it actually wasn't spicy at all. When he ordered a second one, he asked for extra jalapenos and that did the trick. I ordered a red wine. All the options are spanish and I wasn't sure exactly which one I wanted, so I asked the server which one was the biggest/boldest....she didn't know but said she'd find out. She comes back with a glass of something...I was a little surprised as I wish she'd have come back with an answer or a taste of something. I actually did not like the wine she brought me and I humbly asked for a different choice....a taste first to see if I liked it enough to get a whole glass. This request was no problem at all. She promptly returned with my taste. While I was in the restroom, the hubby asked if they had sparkling water - she wasn't sure but said she'd ask. He said - "if you do, we'd like 2 glasses of that with lime". She comes back with a 'no' on the sparkling water but had an entire glass of limes for us and asked if that was enough. We laughed until we cried as we think she thought he was asking for 2 glasses of limes....I'm sure these were opening night jitters. She was absolutely delightful and the service was great. Wound up here for a round of drinks following dinner elsewhere on Glenwood. Instagram really pulled the wool over my eyes on this one. I was expecting a uniquely atmospheric experience... but got overly loud music, tight quarters, and a regular ol' bar scene with one expertly painted psychedelic-suggestive hallway. We were a group of three couples, and even though we cozied up around one of the retro couches, found it difficult to hear one another. Cocktail menu looked interesting (though I opted for wine); the beer selection is rather abysmal. Ultimately: Clockwork does offer something different from the sometimes overpriced and overdressed Glenwood scene. But I'm not sure I found it compelling enough to come back. read more

The bar was really nice--I liked the geometric shapes-and-stripes decor throughout the place as well as the reflective backsplash to the bar. It was definitely a 70s throwback in a way that worked! Seriously, the interior was very cozy and loungelike. There were tables along the wall, a lot of seating at the bar itself, and mini lounges in the front and back. I would come back for a beer or a glass of wine in a heartbeat. They also had an interesting looking cocktail list. The food, on the other hand, wasn't awful but didn't match up to the otherwise cool bar scene. I ordered the fried cauliflower appetizer (which the menu dubbed as amazing) and a half portion of the lobster ravioli special. Well--the lobster ravioli and sauce tasted like it came from Trader Joe's. Which isn't bad (hey--I get Trader Joe's ravioli all the time). I just don't want to go to a restaurant and pay $8 for four pieces of it in a seemingly store-bought cream sauce. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't get it again. The fried cauliflower was quite good. Just as you'd expect a fried vegetable to be. The lemon tahini also tasted store bought--but good. It was definitely an appetizer plate--I brought 3/4 of mine home, so I'd avoid ordering it as an individual. All in all, a bit disappointed for the $35 I spent on two appetizers + 2 beers, including tax and tip. I liked the bar scene at Clockwork a lot, but I probably wouldn't order dinner there regularly--maybe an appetizer or pizza to share while sitting at the bar. read more
