We had to go to a wedding and a graduation in the area so we booked our trip with Nancy via email. When we arrived we were greeted by Nancy's daughter and showed around briefly, then to our room. They have the cutest little dog and a couple of cats which are lazy and very friendly. Our room was huge, very nice and very clean. The bed was very comfortable, much more so than just about any bed in any home-away-from-home that I've stayed at, the only comparable bed would probably be the beds at Hampton Inn (which will cost you about $159 a night I might add). We were the only ones staying the first night and were able to name our own breakfast time, we chose 9am. The next morning we woke up to the smell of bacon and went downstairs for a wonderful breakfast of fruit plate, apple-french toast and bacon with juice and tea (neither of us drink coffee). We spoke with Nancy for nearly two hours about the area and really enjoyed our time just sitting and talking. The next day we had another wonderful breakfast before departing. Our first experience with a bed & breakfast was a great one. I think we were very fortunate to have chosen such a beautiful historic house run by such a wonderful family. As a side note as a techno-addict I appreciated the fast, free wi-fi (fast enough to stream Netflix). Unfortunately with our wedding and graduation we did not have time for a proper tour of the grounds and the area but since my girlfriend has family in the area we most certainly plan to come back. This is a fantastic value for the money and far beats anything you will find in a hotel, in cleanliness, comfort and value. And what hotel that you stay at is going to have such a cute Pomeranian to eat breakfast with? I loved the place so much I tipped Nancy generously and I would recommend everyone else do the same, you shouldn't have any problem affording it with the money you save from staying at a Holiday Inn!

In the cabin, we spent the evening relaxing, listening to music from the CD player (several CDs were provided in the cabin), nature walking, and actually talking without distractions (like TV). . .The bedroom is in a 2nd floor loft space with the bed sitting underneath a window that overlooks the Coyote Creek. . .A truly wonderful touch is Alice (the owner) who brings homemade breakfast at 9am. Our breakfast included orange juice, fresh fruit, sausage, and a french toast casserole with blueberries baked in it and cup of maple syrup. The breakfast was served piping hot -- and tasted wonderful.

What an amazing surprise! We actually had access to the entire house if we wanted, but we still stuck with our original room. Room 22 has a huge jacuzzi tub and huge 2 person shower! I was surprised at how cold the air was when we arrived (just how we like it!) Usually I sleep with a fan at night at home and was worried, but it was so cool and the room was so comfortable (and clean!) that husband and I slept like a baby. We ate two dinners and two breakfast at the Murphin Ridge Restaurant. The food was always amazing and so fresh! The weather ended up being gorgeous and we were able to eat all meals outside in their beautiful patio area. The first night we had the sirloin stake that was AMAZING! It was cool watching the chef grill out right on the patio! I didn't even need steak sauce (which says a lot coming from me, because I typically put condiments on everything!) The second night it was pizza night and they made us a pizza in their brick oven that was also on the patio! It was neat seeing our food being made both nights. Staff was absolutely wonderful, polite, and very knowledgeable. The staff did little things that made our stay special. For example, Majorie knew it was our anniversary and she reserved our table we fell in love with for our second dinner. And she remembered how I liked to make my ice tea and make sure I had extra Splenda without asking. It's truly the little things that make all the difference! We hope to come back every year! Some tips for first time people (staying in the Amish House): 1. There is WiFi! We are big tv watchers. There is actually a tv that has USB ports in the common area. I would suggest bringing your google chrome/Apple TV or whatever you use so you can stream from your tv to phone if you prefer! 2. There is a fridge that can be shared. We did not know this and brought a cooler with ice. Not needed. There is actually a full kitchen if you want to make a meal. There is also a coffee pot! 3. There is a golf cart that you can borrow (maybe rent? May be free?) But you can use that to get to and from the main area which is a little over a mile away. 4. The pool is open 24 hours! Great for a night time swim (which is a mile away and is 4 ft deep). 5. There are a handful of board games at the Amish house, but I suggest to bring your own. So many great spaces to play them (inside or outside!) 6. Finally, bring s'mores! There is a great fire pit right out back of the Amish House!

There are several easy hiking trails on the property that are well-maintained and offer beautiful views. The food in the restaurant was very good as well. We wanted a place close to several Southern Ohio Points of Interest and it is very well located to Hillsboro, Bainbridge, Pike Lake State Park, Rocky Fork and Paint Creek. When we arrived, we were greeted by Jane & Doug - the proprietors. We immediately felt at home and loved the whole place. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was great. The room was comfortable, large and the bathroom was nice too with a great shower! We spent time with Jane & Doug talking and learning about their farm and getting a tour of the entire house Doug has built for them - what an amazing talent he has for woodwork. It was interesting to learn that the wood used in the house from trim to floors came from trees on the property - most of the wood had never left the farm. The house has tons of room for much larger groups and I could see us taking other family & friends for a weekend getaway in the future. We walked the property, which was really beautiful and even got to go on a golf cart ride a couple of times. There were homemade chocolate chip cookies and milk in the evening and in the morning Jane made us a true farm style breakfast that included coffee, orange juice, eggs, sausage, stewed apples and homemade scones - YUM! One other treasure is Luke, their 4 year old Golden Retriever, he only added to the warmth of the experience at this secluded getaway. My wife and I have travelled all over the country and stayed in dozens of places during our 22 years together and I can say on behalf of both of us, this place is a treasure if you are looking to get away, relax and meet some very nice people. You can visit or disappear to a cozy chair and read a book or take a nap - the experience can be whatever you decide to make it. We left feeling like we'd known them for years. The cabins are quiet and cozy but I prefer the rooms on the first floor of the lodge where the windows face the sunrise each morning. Each room has Amish style furnishings and is always clean and comfortable. Dinner at the inn is a great experience. They specialize in beef, pork, chicken and seafood while also having wonderfully prepared vegetables. I've never left a vegetable on my plate. Soups and desserts are on a heavenly level. Tonight's chocolate cheesecake was to die for! Their wine and cocktail list is also excellent with very good wine prices. Breakfast each morning is a taste of farm goodness. House made sausage, a variety of egg dishes, and/or pancakes are a welcome start to each day. This weekend we stayed mostly in the room due to the pandemic but there are sights to see in the area. Miller's Furniture and bakery has excellent sandwiches for a picnic lunch and lots of beautiful Amish furniture. There are hiking trails on the property and many more in the area. Check out the Edge of Appalachia Preserve System which has several trails a short drive from the inn. West Union is also a cute town with an old fashioned soda shop at Blake Pharmacy. It's a getaway, a great escape, and a reminder of the good things in life.
