Back Street Grub - Outside

Back Street Grub

Today we drove to Irvine and had lunch at Backstreet Grub. It was hard to decide what to get from…read morethe menu, but we started with their fried banana Perrier appetizer. These are cut into rings , then battered and deep fried and served with ranch dressing. Probably some of the best banana pepper rings I have had in a very long time! Looking around I saw others who had ordered the burger (which looked really good) and another person had a very fresh looking salad. Others had the fish dinner, and we both decided on the fish sandwich for our lunch. You can choose from either battered or breaded whitefish. So, we ordered one of each! The sandwich came with crinkle cut french fries. There were other options that could be substituted for the fries. Also came with 2 hush puppies. The sandwiches were huge! Probably 12" long with a generous piece of fish on a fresh bun. Came with lettuce, onion, pickle, and a ripe slices of red tomato. The fish was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. The breaded fish may have been a little heavy on black pepper, but not overbearing. If I was super picky, the bun would have been better if it were slightly toasted on the grill, but that's just a personal preference. One thing it was missing was tartar sauce (and you know me--some hot sauce). But overall, this was a very delicious sandwich and others said the same thing we did when they sat the sandwiches on our table. In unison, we all said, "Oh Wow!" It was a good thing that I was very hungry, because I was somehow able to eat it all, but next time, we will order one sandwich, cut it in half, and order an extra side of extra crispy french fries. Next door is The Hippie Hut where (if you have room) can stop by and get a delicious shaved ice or hand dipped ice cream. I fully recommend Backstreet Grub and we will be back real soon!

I loved my burger it was cooked to perfection, and that over-easy egg on top was chef's kiss. The Bloody Mary was just okay (I don't have many to compare it to), but the toppings especially the candied bacon were delicious. Service was great too our server was quick, attentive, and on top of everything.

They were packed so I highly recommend you do an open table with this place on busy days like the weekend. Parking is in two locations front and back. Front was full so we parked in back and there's a short 1 minute walk up a slightly inclined hill (drop some people at the door if there's a mobility issue) The restaurant is stunning. Huge! with multiple areas to sit with different ambiance. Even the bathrooms are adorable. Decorated with Golden Girl art and stunning wall paper. We sat at what I'd call the green room. Floor to ceiling windows looking to outside. Loved it. The service was excellent! The food was amazing. We got watermelon martini my mom loved. (I'm pretty sure seasonal) I got old fashion We got the Ceasar salad 10/10 The seafood chowder and I just came from living 2 years in Rhode Island (the ocean state). I'm telling you it was goooood! 10/10 We both got the OSCAR STYLE MEDALLIONS* two 4 oz. filet medallions served on Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus; topped with béarnaise and truffle buttered crab, lobster, & shrimp --15/10 lol LITERALLY delicious!!. I just got my sauce on side and replace my asparagus with macaroni and cheese. Also, I got to go order for my fiancé he asked for the Ahi tuna salad bowl to go. He said it was super good! The butters were herb and truffle I think and regular. All the presentation was immaculate! I just can't wait to go back again! ENJOY!

It was chilly outside so it was a nice surprise when the young lady asked if we wanted to sit by the fireplace. Yes, please!! It was so comfy and warm right there. Our waitress came right over and was so sweet and attentive. I ordered their morning glory burger with the salsa on the side and a salad, and the hubby ordered a cheeseburger with fries. The wait was short and the food was excellent! They forgot to put the salsa on the side for my burger, but it was very good anyway. I'm really starting to enjoy burgers with eggs on them. The salad was enormous! I thought they made a mistake and brought me a $10.00 salad, but no. It was so huge I couldn't finish it, which was a shame because it was so delicious. My hubby said that his was the best burger he's had in a very long time. We were able to leave quickly after finishing our meal since the waitresses carry portable card readers with them and they check you out right at the table which is so very convenient. When we're back next year for Scarefest we will keep Drake's on our radar!

Do they really need six parking spots in the adjacent lot dedicated to take out? Upon arrival, there was a sign directing us to choose our own seating. There was a decent crowd, but the place was not packed. We sat near the bar. We waited a pretty good amount of time before anyone touched our table. For that reason I deducted one star from the review. The food was very good. The crab Rangoon roll hit the spot. Fried pickles were a very generous portion. Buffalo mini bites with fries were also good. Fantastic ranch. The waiter did spill some ranch on his finger and then proceeded to lick it off. That was a bit strange.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place. It's hidden almost like a speakeasy, tucked away…read morebehind Arcadium bar, and the reservation system is quirky, almost exclusive (this place does offer a monthly membership option, but it's limited availability). Favor is the passion project of chef Wyatt Sarbacker and features a small rotating menu. While the burgers and empanadas are always on the menu, other items change seasonally or according to availability. Wyatt prides himself and Favor on using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients and building an eco friendly, environmentally sustainable culinary experience. The space is intimate, mostly counter seating aside from one large community dining table in the adjoining room, but it's bright and welcoming. The kitchen is completely open and you can see everything Wyatt is doing as he prepares your meal. And this is an impressive one man show! It amazed us how Wyatt made it look easy (though I'm sure it's not). He was preparing multiple dishes from multiple orders simultaneously and delivered them promptly at a great pace that allowed us to enjoy each dish without feeling hurried. We ate almost every dish on the menu. Dish sizes vary, some small, some larger, but it worked out wonderfully that there were three of us, as we could eat in a tapas style, sharing all of the tasty foods. The empanadas were first, and come with a rotating sauce accompaniment. They were soft and hot, and the filling was delicious. I can't remember the filling, but I remember black beans were involved, and it was actually one of my favorite dishes. Such a compact, juicy, savory bite. We also had the lion's mane mushroom, made with pea shoots, lemon, and creole mustard. This is a mushroom served like a crab cake. You could really taste the earthy mushroom flavor and the creole mustard was the perfect addition. We also had the crispy Brussels, made with shishito peppers, onion, and maple miso dressing. Wyatt did Brussels sprouts incredibly well. Often you go to a place and they are burnt or charred and have that taste. These were cooked to perfection and had a smoky, yet sweet taste. And who could resist a giant plate of fries? These fries are fresh cut potatoes and my dinner companion compared them to the famous "Five Guys" fries that everyone raves about. The true star here is the curry ketchup. No ordinary ketchup, this thrills the tastebuds. We were excited to hear that Wyatt will hopefully be releasing some of his own sauces soon. We also had the cheeseburger, which is a smashburger. I have complained about the smashburger trend endlessly, as I tend to like a thick, medium burger. But this burger was VERY good. Melted with cheese, on his HOMEMADE buns, this one gets a pass as "one of the good ones." We finished up with chocolate chunk cookies, which were served hot with ooey gooey melted chocolate chips. Made with rye flower and bittersweet chocolate, as well as cranberries, poppyseeds, and sea salt, this cookie had such a unique savory flavor. The more we tasted them, the more we loved them. I'm not a "sweets" type of person, so this type of cookie is ideal for me. I wish I could have bought a dozen to take home to my husband. You can get cocktails from arcadium, right by the restaurant, which I've reviewed previously. They make light refreshing daiquiris and gin gimlets, which is what we ordered. My companion liked their old fashioned. Prices for Flavor are insanely well priced. Despite this experiencing being worth so much more, prices range from sub-ten dollars to 18 dollars. Wyatt was warm and welcoming and interesting. We had an amazing evening and have already discussed when we would come back, who we would bring, or whether we might have next year's birthday bash there as a private event. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening, Wyatt, I am glad I finally figured out the reservation system!

Even though theres no menu on the website, we were excited to give it a try anyway & reserved online. We were debating between the French resto or this, but since their voicemail was full & we couldn't get a hold of anybody to cancel so we went ahead. BTW this place only requires reservations and needs a credit card to do so, otherwise a no show is $30 charge. Seating is limited, I'd say max of 15 people at a time. It was difficult to find this at night as this was at the back of a bar. We drove around the area and found the sign luckily. They don't serve alcohol but they are associated with the bar on the front so you can get your drinks there. The menu was very limited, it probably changes periodically bec I don't see the same food posted by other yelpers. The chef prepares as you order. We tried the rangoons, brussel sprouts, and mushroom campanelle. The dishes were just okay, we were not wowed. The campanelle (pasta) was creamy but lacks flavor and could use some salt. They're okay portions and can be shared (that's what we did) since there's not too many food options.

Since this was our first time visiting Jim's we were interested in a box for two or any recommendations. Our host pleasantly explained the specials and favorites. We decided on the white fish with slaw and fries a meal plenty for two. While waiting for our order in comfortable room we learned of the areas heritage of Jim's and it's tied to the Kentucky river. ( I've included a few pictures ). After a few minutes we received our order the host showed us our take out and asked if everything was in order. It looked wonderful so we made our way to the overlook. Our fish was cooked perfectly with large enough portions to satisfy our hunger. The slaw was house made fresh crisp and lite, our fries hot and tasty. Great spot or indoor dining or a casual outdoor patio Jim's fits the bill. Jim's must be a popular spot as we were leaving the large parking lot was filling quickly. I recommend arriving early. I hope you enjoy Jim's as much as we did.
