Doughnuts Heaven! Whenever I crave it, I go to the Moon, I mean Moon Donuts. They make the best doughnuts. It reminds me of the doughnuts I used to eat when I was a kid. well I hate to burst all you raving reviewers bubbles but you've just been dissed...I've been told by several people how great this donut shop is, not to mention all the great reviews. love the picture here on yelp of all the colorful and tasty looking donuts...so I excitedly drove all the way from Manhattan Beach to indulge for myself. I walk in (Sunday morning) and there is a grand total of NINE donuts in the entire giant case. and by the way they were all glazed. someone had told me that this place had the best jelly donut I would ever taste, so I guess I'll just have to imagine that deliciousness. what a joke. I live close by so I often swing past Moon Donuts on my way to work or on Sunday. Friendly service all day everyday. The donuts are fresh and there is a great assortment to choose from. Very popular when I pick up a box for my coworkers. But my personal favorite are the muffins. The recipe is very unique... Not overly sweet like muffins at other coffee shops. Well I went here based on rvws and because it was so close to my house surprising as I hadn't heard of it. First it's relatively small and while there are a variety of selections it's not like going to Randy's. Small issue if the donuts were as good as reviews indicated. Unfortunately they weren't. The fritters were way too thin and dense so the oil taste was more overpowering and they were over done. 2ndly the glaze donuts were not very good at all. They had a very unusual ingredient that left an aftertaste,spice aftertaste. The dough wasn't fluffy as a glaze donut should be. Donut holes were the same. And the cake donuts were way too heavy on the frosting to cake ratio. My only assessment is that most of those reviews were written by friends and family. An unfortunate caveat of Yelp. I knew there was something amiss when I went on Sunday am at 830 and I was the only person there. A 100% much better choice is the donut place in the haggens shopping strip on pch near the petco Now those are donuts! I think the name is s and j. read more
