Second time got the ginger chicken, edamame, shrimp summer roll, and the blowing rock roll again to go. The blowing rock roll is delicious! It was better in the restaurant than when I got it to go (should've asked for the sauce on the side). All of the flavors go well together and if you want a cooked roll, this is it! Moved to Blowing Rock a month ago and we have already frequented Moon at least once if not twice a week. Moon offers a wide variety of Asian cuisine but their Thai dishes are definitely their best! I've also had a few of their sushi rolls and were very impressed. My husband has gotten their pho multiple times and he's hooked! The service is always wonderful with friendly and attentive staff. We ended up ordering takeout from Moon on a busy Saturday night as all the downtown restaurants were completely slammed. I certainly appreciated a Thai/Japanese option when the majority of restaurants in Blowing Rock are American. I enjoyed the Monster Roll more than I expected. I did try to order a "safe" sushi roll in that this one doesn't have any raw fish. I can't speak to the freshness of their sashimi offerings. We did not like the basil fried rice. Similar to another review's experience, the rice was soggy and wet. We barely ate half the fish because it wasn't very tasty. I would not order this again but wouldn't mind trying more of their sushi options. read more

In retrospect, the place looks nice, and the food was okay. Not a huge fan of how they treat or pay their employees. Know that management keeps the tips you give your servers. This was my first time in this establishment, I went on a Tuesday which was great because when I got there we were seated immediately. But within the hour the place packed up. They sat us in the back corner, which ultimately turned into the customer phone call area. Whereat least 2 other customers from other tables came by to have their phone calls. It's a small establishment and the phone call might as well have been made at my table... We did get served our drinks very quickly, we just ordered two beers that came in a can and we served ourselves at the table. For appetizers, we ordered the Duck Wontons and Pork Gyoza. I can say with full confidence that the duck was NOT duck. It tasted and looked like diced ham, and did not have the texture of duck, again it was a pork texture. I would NOT RECOMMEND those at all. For the Pork Gyoza, we asked for them fried, and when they arrived at the table they were a bit dark, I will assume that the area they fry their products in needs to be changed more frequently. And on that, when I bit into the gyoza a hot section of liquid came out and burnt the roof of my mouth. Upon looking inside the gyoza, I realized there was about 25% filling, and 75%empty space inside of them. Again, not a fan. For our meals, we ordered the Drunken' Noodles. And for sushi, we ordered The Blowing Rock and Shrimp Sushi. The Drunken Noodles were actually really good, they used fat noodles and it was probably one of the best noodle dishes I have had in the area thus far. The sushi was alright, I have had better sushi before but I wasn't too opposed to it. I also appreciate that they brought me a lot of extra ginger when I asked. If anything, I will say it was good, but it was in my opinion not worth the price. I will say this, I am not a fan of how they treat their employees. They are not getting paid the legal wage, management goes around laws in order to not get in trouble. Hosts are being paid as servers, and the servers are not allowed to keep their tips. Because of this, I do not see myself coming back to this establishment. And I recommend that if you eat here, you should probably sneak your tips to the servers so they may actually get to keep them. read more

We very recently had dinner at Moon. It was an extremely enjoyable experience! The ambiance is comfortable and rustic. We really liked it. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and hot. My husband had the drunken noodle...so good! I was very happy with my choice, the crispy duck. The service was amazing. Our server told us he was in training, but honestly, you would never have known. If you are familiar with this cuisine, you will not be disappointed. Drove up for the day yesterday and got take out for a car picnic while overlooking the mountains! We called our order in and it was ready in 20 minutes. The restaurant is the cutest little building, tucked into the side of the mountain and very quaint. The parking lot is very slanted. I only got to see the entry area since all dining areas are closed right now, but what I did see was lovely. We had two sushi rolls which were fresh and delicious. I got Crab Rangoon which was loaded with crab! Very yummy. My daughter got spring rolls and they were not great. She thinks they were frozen, and were gummy on the inside. They have had some issues over the past couple of years but the past three times we have been have all been great... seems they have worked the issues out. Service is greatly improved and the food is back up to par with where it was for the first two years the restaurant was opened. Kudos to the owners and management for improving. This is once again our favorite restaurant in the area. Both Thai and Japanese options are excellent and authentic. We haven't tried the Vietnamese options. read more

I'm a sucker for sushi so I was excited to find this place on my way back from a day visiting Boone! It was tucked right into the mountainside and had a very charming outdoor seating area that unfortunately we couldn't use due to rain, but the interior was sparkling clean, the tables were appropriately distanced, and the servers were all wearing masks. We started with shumai dumplings and papaya salad. The papaya salad was excellent (although a bit spicy). We then ordered 6 rolls for 4 people and it was perfect. Our favorites were the fire dragon roll, the spicy tuna and spicy salmon. Sometimes it's hard to beat some of the simpler rolls! The fish tasted fresh and was very tender. The only roll we ordered that we thought was just okay was the moon special (mostly because the octopus was a bit chewy) We finished off our meal with seasonal mango sticky rice and it was superb! In fact it was so good that right after finishing it we ordered another one! Sorry to say that even with two opportunities I forgot to take a picture both times! This is a very nice facility offering a diverse and creative menu with excellent food quality and presentation, but, to me, they come up a bit short on flavor. For lunch on June 17 I had the Bali roll and Thai basil dish. Both looked great. The Bali roll was fairly tasty, and generously portioned, but nothing especially noteworthy. The Thai basil was good but, in my opinion, was significantly under spiced.  The menu shows the heat level with 2 peppers, but it definitely fell short of that. We are visiting Boone and we're looking for a restaurant and we are so glad we choose Moon! We have tried other restaurants in the area since but we are heading there again tonight! The interior is so cute and the waiter was incredible. Highly recommend! I had the yellow curry and it had a spicy warning next to it. I don't like super spicy foods and am quite sensitive. The waiter said it wasn't spicy but mild. So glad I took the risk because it was perfect. Had enough food for lunch the next day and trust me it is better the next day. Positives first: the little food we got was good, and arrived hot. The service was earnest, respectful, and helpful. The problem is that nobody was managing the kitchen. We ordered massaman curry, two pad see ew's (one chicken, and one beef), and a pad Thai. The massaman curry arrived around 5.50. By 6.20, we still had not seen a noodle dish. Five minutes is an acceptable amount of time to wait between dishes; thirty minutes is not. Around 6.25 we got the chicken pad see ew, but still had no word on the other or the Thai, except the guarantee that it'd be out "any minute" that we had heard since the curry. At a guess, our orders (which were very popular dishes) were given to either other diners or to take-out orders. We left around 6.30, hungry, without paying. I would not recommend dining in at this restaurant until they find someone to better manage the kitchen and order flow; until that time, they should curtail either dine-in or take-out until they're adequately staffed and managed. read more

Found Moon on Yelp and thought I hit a jackpot bc they also have sushi and pho, plus the reviews are much better than the other asian places around here so I thought why not. My husband and I came in and was seated right away, the customer service here is great! Waiters and waitresses are very attentive, which is great because I tip on service not on quality of food. Now on quality of food... The sushi rice is way too mushy to be sushi rice. I paid 17.00 for a roll I should love it right? Well, I didn't. I don't know if I came on an off day or if their rice is always mushy but sushi rice isn't supposed to be. Along with sushi, I got chicken pad thai, which was the only thing that saved this placed. My husband had the pho and it's not authentic pho broth at all. We're not complainers or too picky about things so we are what we can and because the pad thai was good, my husband decided to order the drunken noodles to go, to which they were ok, flavors are there but not the best. Overall the atmosphere of this place is nice, the service is great - just I wouldn't recommend this place to any friends or family just because it's not authentic, it'll be a low blow to have had authentic pho/sushi/thai cuisine and then have the food here. Strictly from an accessibility perspective, this place could be doing a lot more to support their customers who are older, less physically able, or use a wheelchair. The stones just outside the entrance are slippery and wobbly- I watched three elderly women walk on the path and each of them slipped and had to hold on to one another. An accessibility audit would reveal several violations of ADA- no handicapped parking plaques at the 2 spots closest to the door, no ramps, and a heavy front door that even healthy, young adults struggled to open. Beyond the nightmares that this place has for accessibility, the place is just poorly managed and never seems to have it together. Besides these pretty big issues, the food is good! read more
